I recently was admitted to this hospital for surgery after suffering a stroke on August 13,th 2024. The staff and nurse's were simply awesome, and I would like to thank everyone and to let them know they are appreciated! And there was one nurse there ( nurse Julianne) who will always be remembered for her caring heart, and professional work habit's in taking care of me while I was there ! And as I told her before I left, that when someone cares it shows, and unfortunately when they don't care it shows as well,so nurse Julianne, from my heart, thank you for caring your light shines bright and you are an asset to USA and you will be remembered, thank you from me, my wife, and my family..,Alvin f caudill.

Furious!!!!! My dad was in Outpatient Surgery for an ultrasound and biopsy. The orderly was rude when speaking to me before escorting my dad from the lobby to the procedure area. I was told that my only means of communication would be my cell phone. That was fine. HOWEVER, I sat in the lobby for 3 hours and 20 minutes with absolutely no communication from anyone. A woman walked up to the reception area and as she turned her back and flicked her hand in a feeble attempt to wave goodbye announced , “It’s 2:00 and I’m gone. If you need anything, go see the lady at the main entrance.” Woman at the main entrance didn’t even know where to direct us for an ultrasound when we first arrived so therefore I was not going to reach out to her again.

I understand that we now live in a world of heightened security with metal detectors , personal scanning and all that life now entails but especially at a hospital where loved ones are already concerned and usually stressed over where the next cancer is going to appear; have we lost all sense of common courtesy and human kindness??

Situations such as this should NEVER happen! 3 hours and 20 minutes with no update, no phone call from anyone!! Rude! Disrespectful! Uncaring! That is what your next billboard should say! And, I have a very close friend who had a similar experience 2 weeks ago so this is not an isolated incident.

On 8/4/2024 was told to report to the ER. After an hour or more in a broken wheelchair my sister was instructed to wheel me over to the hospital side as she is 73 years old , on a cane and has Parkinson's to hospital side up a small hill to the entry door. Had a second surgery on my back and in recoveryi kept telling the only nurse there that my right eye was hurting bad and right cheek was burning. she took a quick look and said she didn't see anything as I was crying out that my face was burning. Taken back to my room a few minutes later , my two sister's waiting on me to return from surgery said I had a black eye and a gash on on cheek.. pictures were taken. Later that night at 1Am I called for

My name IS Tristin Farley. I took my mother here back in October for an infection and cleared that she had various mental illnesses and issues with drugs. They gave her a Percocet in the waiting room and she went stiff. She had blue lips and was unresponsive. I gave her compressions myself before anyone got there. I then told the nurse assigned to my mother that she may have taken something and that’s why her oxygen levels were in the 40s-60s and the nurse responded with “she might have sleeping apnea.” I know my mother and she does not and has not ever been diagnosed with sleep apnea. Finally a doctor came in and I told him the situation and he pushed narcan. She became conscious and alert. I was a nursing major at south Alabama. I promptly changed my major and will not let anyone I care about go to a hospital alone. Today I called concerned, and asked for the charge nurse, Jessie, about how to get my mother help for her addiction to find that they do not prescribe Suboxone to patients coming in with withdrawals. He was heartless and could not refer me to another clinic or doctor that could help me. If I were to Narcan my mother and send her to this hospital she would likely be writhing in pain until we could get a referral to another doctor for an appointment a week out. My claim here is: Emergency healthcare is not at all concerned with properly caring for those who are mentally ill or suffering from addiction. The people in the worst places imaginable will be treated terribly within this and likely any healthcare system because the staff have no compassion for “people who do it to themselves.” As someone who
has worked in healthcare for three years, I can say this is an issue common to hospitals and the very REASON patients with mental illness and drug use do not seek help. It’s a disgusting stigma causing lives.
TO HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS:
where would you go for help and what would you do for your mother who does not have money or good health insurance? Is there a hospital in Alabama you would feel good leaving someone like that? Do you think they would get the best possible care? Would you give someone like that the same care as someone with a broken leg? I know most of you wouldn’t because I’ve seen you do the opposite. I am not angry, I’m so sad for the people who have been treated the way my mother and I were.

Over the phone they tell you one thing because it’s a recorded line once you get in the exam room and you let them know what’s going on they tell you specific instructions on what to do or not do and you’re moving forward then when it’s time for the appointment nothing they said while not recorded they remember. They don’t properly inform you about Birth control options and the specifics that goes along with those options. They make quick decisions without fully hearing the patient needs. I would say record everything because after you leave the exam room that conversation is null and void

It was quite unfortunate, but I was unconscious for 3 days. To Merit's credit, they flew me over to USA. I have had brain surgery at John's Hopkins and been admitted to Singing River Hospital System more than I care to say. I'm rather intimate with Hospitals around the South and East Coast!

USA UNIVERSITY Hospital is the closest level 1 trauma Center for us. I was in their MCCU unit. I was shocked, thrilled and tremendously impressed! Not only did I have a bevy of Dr's seeing me daily, but since it's a teaching hospital every one of my nurses had, at the least 2 nurses assigned to me on the daily. Each one held a BSN (4 year degree), not the typical two year RN. Most were continuing their education onward.

I can honestly say that each and every staff person was wonderful! They were kind, patient and professional. I truly have never been so impressed with a Hospital staff, Everyone from the Soecualists, to the janitorial staff and all in between were so kind, caring, and wonderful!

These wonderful people literally saved my life and I have themto thank for making it to my 57th birthday.

I would recommend them and their affiliated Dr's for continuing to treat me. Highly recommend that anyone from South Mississippi to take the short ride over to Mobile with ANY aliment that they have!

I would easily give then 10 stars if would allow me to do so. Stellar care that continues until this day!

We may even move to Daphne, AL just to be closer to them!!! Thank you for saving my life!

Where do I begin? This place was like stepping back to the 70s with the LOUD intercom and lack of cleanliness. The nurses and doctors are all young and learning. There is a huge need for cleanliness, priority in care and better patient bedside manner.
I’m shocked at the difference between hospitals in the north to the south. The north hospitals are excellent, at least where we are from.
