Their own billing department doesn't even understand how to input a standard, widely-used insurance and I was advised to physically take it to my doctor's office instead. Good luck and hope you don't get stuck with a bill.
Yes, it's true they have some major issues at Mobile Infirmary. It's too big to really give quality care. There is an obvious disconnect between the administration and the maintenance supervisor or that department. In a room with NO Air conditioning. Seriously! The RN just said it was complicated to fix it and there were no other rooms available. That was a stupid lie. We had to go buy fans in order to survive. Like being in Mogadishu or some other Third world country-just no active bombing.
There is really no good excuse. It's sketchy and patient safety is QUESTIONABLE.
I would advise to checkout other facilities -go across the bay. ANYWHERE BUT HERE. If I knew I had to come here and be a patient, in a medical hostage situation like this, I would be terrified. I don't think they have much care or concern for elective surgery. And yeah, there is all that hostile passive/aggressive attitude... It's free of charge.

You must be hyper vigilant about your health care. DO NOT get trapped in the Mobile infirmary without someone staying with you IN THE ROOM.
You MUST have someone in the room with you at all times to advocate for your medication administration and treatment or you will more than likely suffer neglect. Chances are your pain will never be addressed correctly, if at all. Everyone is assumed to be an addict so those who are not, Do suffer.
The hospital facility is entirely too large to be properly managed.
Almost 700 beds in this hospital, some are too old to have working air conditioning.... and they will not fix it.
Think about it before you are admitted and become a hostage to their attitudes and neglect.

The night nurses were extremely disrespectful. One even accused me of lying. The room was like a broom closet. There was a dirty smear on my bed.
They never changed my sheets after my surgery. The silverware was crusty.
The floor in my room was filthy. The bathroom looked like a public facility.
I was there for one week and once discharged to go to an in-house physical therapy hospital I felt like a refugee.
My surgeon was wonderful, but I will never go back to Mobile Infirmary nor will I ever let any of my loved ones go there. It was a nightmare.

They have turned into the AT&T of medicine, too big to care about service. Receptionists are rude and incompetent. I waited 5 minutes yesterday, no one in line or at counter, before they even acknowledged me. Then another 8 while they finished doing whatever they (3 people) were doing. The wait is always about an hour whether in lobby or patient room...its quite a joke. Telephone? There are always 15-40 callers in the cue. Prescription refill? Average 2 phone calls and 2 pharmacy requests...plan on2-4 days. Very poor.
This is specifically about a Surgical ICU doctor and the social worker that was working with him. After discussing with the urologist handling my dad's case, my family made a decision to follow a specific course of treatment. These two individuals came into the SICU room where we were visiting with my dad to discuss ALL treatment options. After asking which procedure we wanted done, they badgered my family until my mom and sister changed their minds. These two people were pushing for "care and comfort" instead of doing something we had already decided upon that may have given my dad a chance to live. Needless to say, my dad is at home now, at least until he dies.
The urologist told us that the procedure was a risk and not guaranteed that it would be completely successful, and that further procedures would still have to be done. We had taken that into consideration and decided to take a chance anyway. You cannot win the lottery, regardless of the odds, if you never buy a ticket.
The fact that these two were actively working toward what they wanted us to do, instead what we as a family had decided, is the reason for this one star review.
For Mobile Infirmary to continue to employ people that will badger, coerce, and cajole the family members of patients to change their minds about the care of their loved ones is unconscionable.
Beware: If you choose Mobile Infirmary, and after careful consideration choose a course of action that might help your loved one, be aware that you may wind up having these two people try to convince you to do something that will kill your loved one. Please take this into consideration before you choose this hospital.
***Please note, the care in the ER and on the individual floors by the other staff was top notch. This review is strictly concerning and in regards to this specific Surgical ICU doctor social worker.

Every doctor affiliated that I have seen with infirmary health has been like the worst practitioners I have ever seen. Where do they hire these professionals from, local veterinarians are better suited to care. They at least are kind and compassionate. I've had the worst treatment from nearly three different doctors. The staff in the new diagnostic medical building is by far the worst , rudest ppl I have ever been around. They're on the phone and you're upsetting them because you have a order and they're busy phoning in a pizza order. Wow. I am so glad I am away from Infirmary Health Systems, poor Baldwin county is plagued by these ppl.
