I was lucky enough to get a tour of the house, and totally enjoyed the garden and birds.

An undeniable place in the nation's colonial history, the $60 per person asking price for a ticket to see the house itself a bit much but.
I don't buy the "in case of damages" reason, that's a fanciful response of justification with a presumption of visitors intentions or inclinations.
People visit to experience their nation's history, having a guided tour to the family cemetery on the grounds seems an obvious accompaniment to the day, but no... the gates are always locked.
The colonial Macarthur's are an undeniably significant story of a determined vision realised, it is however not a squeaky clean one.
Governor Bligh knew it, Governor Macquarie knew it, nonetheless the 2nd and 3rd generations of Macarthur's were instrumental in achieving the historical significance of the family today. The current and immediately prior occupants have no basis with the traditional activities of the estate or it's commerce. Farming wasn't their forte.

It was a great day. Our guides were very knowledgeable with some being volunteers. It is a major task to try and keep the gardens and grounds under control.

Such a lovely house and gardens. It's great how they opened it up for the public to see

So grateful to be able to attend this once a year open house event. The Devonshire tea was amazing as was the barista coffee by Pollyanna! The children really cherish their arts and craft items made during the visit.
