Sadly the entrance fee for tourists is 10 times more than for local people and there isn’t that much that was interesting apart from the ornate carved ivory but the staff were extremely helpful and polite

Sad that its named after a British governor General, whose contributions to the treasure housed within are close to nil. The huge halls could greatly benefit from AC, but the visit is well worth it for witnessing the resplendent beauty of sculptures and carvings of the era gone by.

The work was finished by 1880 during the reign of Ayiliam Thirunal Rama Varma and the museum was named after the then Governor-General of India Lord Napier .
The museum houses a rare collection of archaeological and historic artifacts, ancient ornaments, bronze idols, ivory carvings, wood carvings, stone carvings ,lamps, musical instruments , coins etc.

Napier Museum is the most famous museum in the city of Trivandrum. It is located within the campus of the archaeological survey of India and also is in the proximity of the Trivandrum zoo. This is one of the top museums to visit whenever in the city. The entry ticket is nominal and the place can be covered in about one and half hour. It offers great insights into the culture of Kerala and the royal family of Travancore with some of the artefacts presented here. Photography is not allowed inside without a ticket.
