Amazing creation of Michaelangelo - from genius sculptor to genius painter. Takes one's breath away - literally and figuratively!! There is a large crush of people in the room, jostling for a good position to view the ceiling, the security folks trying to keep order - this aspect takes away from one's ability to take in and quietly enjoy the paintings. It gets pretty claustrophobic in there. One is also not allowed to take pictures in the Sistine Chapel! Highly advisable to join a guided tour to visit as the entry time is guaranteed. Otherwise, the very long lines outside can take up half a day for one to be able to even enter the Vatican museum.

What an amazing place to be, day or night. We visited it during daytime and night to experience the different nuances of the lively vibe of the place. A destination in itself when in Firenze (Florence).
