I had mixed feelings about one of the exhibits in the main museum. The portion that represents the history of the Apache and any Native peoples their voice needs to be present. If they were included in the making of that exhibit, it was not obvious at all. We aren't looking to reassure ourselves about a bloody part of history, but we need to be inclusive of the voices of descendants and bring awareness from their perspective.
Overall, the museum was well done representing the different facets of Lincoln with Native, Military, Settler, and Spanish influences and spends a significant amount of time focusing on Billy the Kid. I can't say the knowing the entire town was really geared toward Billy the Kid that I would have visited, but in the end, it was a nice museum.
$7 allows you to tour the entire town, $10 includes Fort Stanton, which is not far away and is good for 2 days.

The Lincoln historic site is very well done. A small museum but laid out in an easy to follow timeline detailing the Lincoln county war and Billy the kid. Lots of firearm displays and depictions of the various characters involved. The buildings throughout town are restored with placards describing the events surrounding Billy the kid's capture and escape. An interesting journey thru the history of the American West. And one has to stop at the Bonito Valley Brewing Co. in town. Some great brews to be had there.

I really enjoyed visiting Lincoln. I walked the entire town visiting all the historical buildings. I had no idea that the Masons still get together once a year and women are not allowed. It's those secret meetings where conspiracies are created. Hah.

This was a fantastic suggestion from a local merchant in Ruidoso! It's rich in history (think Billy Yhe Kid), and the structures remain in their original locations! I have it 4 stars because there was literally NO PLACE to buy a bottle of water! It was Labor Day, and the only 2 places that might have had one were close.

What a rich display or history! From a historic museum to an art gallery, general store, church, and courthouse, this walking tour is worth every penny. The locals here are so friendly, and it is easy to see why this historic town popped up here.

Crazy how this history still exist. Very cool place to visit! Good history on the Lincoln County wars and Billy the Kid.

A must see if you are anywhere close! This historic district has buildings (and ruins) from the late 1800's. You also can walk Billy the Kids life and last days. It was very educational while being exciting at the same time. My kids (12 & 15) enjoyed it a lot (and didn't realize they were learning 😂).
