This is a wonderful museum near the Opera House, but be warned, it is temporarily closed for building renovations when I visited a few weeks ago. I asked when it might be reopened but they guessed not for at least another month or two. I tried to update Google maps but they rejected my changes and unable to verify the information, so recommend you try to contact them before going to avoid disappointment 🙏🏼

I loved the museum but the guy who was supposed to talk about the rooms and the poet's stuff, refused to explain anything to us. He was waiting for a group of tourists. Maybe he expected more money from them.
He was the only unwelcoming feature of the place. Thank God there is internet to turn to.

Constantine P. Cavafy is most probably my favorite poet so you can imagine my excitement when visiting his former home where he lived for the last 25 years of his life.

I was pretty much awe struck, knowing that this was the street he often walked along, standing at the window’s he often stood at, looking out into his beloved Alexandria.

Most of his furniture - seen in the old photo’s of the apartment - have gone although there still are alot of beautiful pieces, along with many writings and photos. Unfortunately they do not sell any books.

The museum didn’t have much in English so I recommend using a translation app to scan the text into the language that you need.

On the day I visited it was free although gave a donation.

If you are trying to tap into a former vision of Alexandria, a former century, nostalgia, then you will find it here.

Amazing place to visit and learn about Cavafy & how Alexandria used to be! I do have to say, however, that the man inside who was selling the ticket was smoking which I think is a poor act because as much as they are trying to protect the apartment with Cavafy’s actual belongings, no one should be allowed to smoke inside, especially with no windows open. The other thing is that you to pay 5x more the amount of the ticket, just to take a few photos. Not worth it- just do sneaky photos if you really feel that need. Other than that, this is a good experience.

Nothing extraordinary to see it's a must see for someone from Greece. On the plus the nice tour given by the man at the ticket office.
