Now bicyclists coming over the Hawthorne bridge have the entire lane on the right side of the old Elk Fountain Statue. The Elk was been removed, and now there's a conifer tree growing in its place. Frankly, the roundabout or rather square-about could have been somewhat rethought and shaped like a teardrop or like a football instead of so wide on the sides. The Elk Statue was epic, maybe the conifer will grow to great heights!

the fires around&under our thompson elk scupture didn't destroy it!,but someone figured that we,portlanders, don't deserve to vote/see/have an opinion about the viewing, let alone view it's wonderful beautiful unique exquisiteness for the rest o'our lives...PUT IT BACK!!!,PLEASE!...Clean thompson elk up & put it back in our rightful place for it's perusal optically by us!!!...Thank You...

the Elk is stored, its fountain base demolished but we don't know how that decision to remove the fountain(s) used as firepits was made by our oh so transparent team(s) of government whatevers that always had money to grow the police bureau budget.

This statue was not harmed whatsoever do to the fires being set beneath the iconic Elk Statue.

Interesting to see a Elk statue in the middle of the road... Makes for a nice photo...

You'll never see an elk like this any place else! 😁

One of the oldest fountains in Portland, the creator David P. Thompson commissioned the multi level piece so that man and all manner of beasts could have a place to drink. The elk is inspired by one he used to watch roam that very spot.
