Cibeles Fountain

In my personal opinion, Madrid is home to numerous aesthetically pleasing fountains, but I find this particular one to be exceptionally captivating.

One of the most beautiful plazas in Madrid. If you take the 203 Airport bus, this is the first point you get to see in Madrid city center. If you are staying in Sol, La Latina or Salamanca; they are all walking distance from Cibeles. Or; there are plenty of stops and busses right at the same location. Apart from the logistical benefits: the plaza is spectacular.

Very nice. It's not crowded. A beautiful building. Unfortunately, because of the New Year, it was under the watch of the police, so it was not possible to get too close.

Beautiful fountain which, however, is totally overshadowed by the overwhelming presence of the quintessential post office building. It simply steals the show. One of the focal points of the city.

Great place to experience the Transhumancia festival where the farmers lead their sheep through the centre of Madrid. Help annually in October.

For the fountain, of course, but also because of the beautiful buildings around like the Ministry of Communications building.
You'll certainly pass by Cibeles square so just stop for a few minutes and take some photos.
