This was a very wonderful basilica, its architecture is very beautiful. It is very kept and preserved, it’s peaceful and a great place to visit. I really enjoyed my time here and I would recommend checking it out if you’re in Bologna.

The Basilica di Santa Maria dei Servi was founded in 1346 and built entirely in the Gothic style.

A remarkable feature of the church is its courtyard or atrium, enclosed by a portico. This is a feature that was common in Early Christian churches, including the Old St. Peter's Basilica in Rome (and ancient Roman temples), but has almost disappeared.

Absolutely stunning basilica. It looks smaller on the outside than it's on the inside. You should definitely check it if you are traveling to Bologna. It's free to visit.

The Basilica of Santa Maria dei Servi rises along Strada Maggiore and is a splendid example of Gothic architecture. Built thanks to the will of father Andrea Manfredi da Faenza and master Antonio di Vincenzo, who had already collaborated on the project of the Basilica of San Petronio, it is preceded by an airy four-sided portico, whose construction began in 1393 and ended between the 16th and 19th. century. This is also visible in a famous film by Pier Paolo Pasolini, Edipo Re. The interior preserves the splendid Madonna Enthroned by Cimabue and other well-known works of art by artists such as Crespi, Albani, Calvaert. The complex also has a bell tower, about 52 meters high, characterized by the lightness of the columns and the architectural novelty that is also found in the four-sided portico in front of the church.

This was the location of our wedding photo shooting. We love this place. It’s a 10 min walk from the center.

The widest and one of the most beautiful porticoes in Bologna. In Christmas, it also holds one of the city's markets.
