Frans Hals was one of the greatest artists of the Dutch Golden Age, of the same caliber as Vermeer and Rembrandt. For any art enthusiast, this should be a good enough reason to visit this museum. The museum is located in the old almhouse, and the building with its gorgeous interiors is in an attraction in its own right. It is most famous for group portraits of members of the military guilds by Hals. Besides works of Hals, there are paintings of other artists who influenced or were influenced by him. The introductory film is quite interesting, and the audio guide is very good as always in the Netherlands. Of note, there is also a second museum building, for Modern Art, which I did not visit due to lack of time.

Interesting museum about Frans Hals and other famous paintersbfrom Haarlem, situated in a beautifull historical building, on the edge of the old city center. Good information and presantation, with free audio tour.
Great museum. Definitely worth visiting when you are in Haarlem. Liked those little things allowing you to “smell” and “touch” the paintings.
Not as big of a collection as I imagined, but also more diverse than I expected. Mostly on one floor around the courtyard space. Rather than being solely Frans Hals, the museum uses the themes of Hals with both Haarlem and the Dutch Golden Age to make connections among its collection. Excellent introductory video to the museum.
Letzte Woche war ich in Haarlem, im FransHalsMeseum, also eigentlich 2 davon. Als ich vor diesem Gebäude stand fragte ich mich was das ist!
Auf meinem Foto sieht man die Kirche und den Marktplatz, genau dort neben der Kirche ist ein kleiner Eingang zum FH-Museum. Dort ist eine Video -Ausstellung. Zum Teil 2 vom Museum muss man etwas länger laufen... Aber es lohnt sich. Die gemalten Bilder sind genial
