I love this space both in the winter when its a haven for a lot of little birds and for summer and spring when flowers and insects abound.
Impressive yet serene, a crimson gate commemorates Oakland's Sister City relationship with Fukuoka, Japan. Adjacent is the reimagined Cascades water feature, now fitted with a filtration system using living plants. One side of the feature now serves as a Dragonfly Habitat and on the opposite you'll find the Tree Frog Tower.
Part of the Gardens at Lake Merritt the Torii Gate is a gift from Oakland's sister city Fukuoka, Japan, dedicated in 2004 to the memory of Oakland Mayor Frank Ogawa.
Make sure you check this out on your stroll around the lake! It's a very nice spot!
