Well we went yesterday to do alittle walking around the grasslands and we arrived there is no where to park your car and it’s mostly just country and people properties . There was no entrance that specified you were at the grasslands . So basically we turned around in somebody parking lot and went hiking elsewhere

This is close to my home, and I love to go and visit and walk the trail. It's very peaceful ✌🏽

Small, quite area among numerous small farms that dot the landscape. I found two Northern Harriers several Bluebirds and three Kestrels during my visit on April 1st.

A good place to see short eared owls and occasionally other raptors. The walking trail to the far observation platform can be icy but if it's not, it is worth the walk down to it. Most of the birds are down around it.

It was a nice easy walking path that led to an observation deck in the middle of the grasslands. There are amazing views in every direction.

IMPORTANT INFO TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO! There are D.E.C. restricted access signs in the parking lot saying the preserve is off limits December 1st through April 15th. This would have been nice to know before I woke up at 5:30 this past Sunday to go for some wildlife viewing. Maybe I didn’t look in the right places, but that information wasn’t readily available anywhere online, and the DEC site only said “please look for and respect restricted area signs” once you get there.
5 stars though because this is important habitat for some sensitive owl species and I’m glad it’s being protected. I found another place to hike that morning and I look forward to returning in April.
