This is plain, generic "town center", which sadly replaced the actual Rockville, is not a draw. The original Rockville, which was mercilessly ripped out in 1965, was tragically replaced with a few acres of square, windowless, ugly, brutalist concrete mall that never quite caught on, lacking a quality anchor store. Known not-so-lovingly as the Crypt at Courthouse Square, this empty, creepy eyesore stood embarrassingly where a town once stood. In the 1980s, a wrecking ball was smashed against the side of the mall, barely making a dent, but beginning the slow crawl toward the new Rockville Town Square. A few generic apartment buildings/businesses and a couple of parking garages later, and we have Plain Town McCenter. If Montgomery County thought before it lept, we could have a gem like Frederick MD. Instead, thousands of down-county residents head north to Frederick every weekend, speeding right past Rockville. Rockville has nothing to offer that's new and different. If you want a huge Town Center filled with new stores, Frederick has it. If you want a beautiful downtown that's old and charming, that's Frederick. Rockville has none of that. It's too small to compete with Frederick's huge town centers, and it's too new to even begin to compare to Frederick's charming and authentic old town. A swing and a miss since 1965.
First Watch is an excellent place to eat. I had the French Toast with seasoned potatoes. The omelets look delicious as well....😋🌻
My family goes to the town square at least once a week. We love the library. The restaurants, wine stores, movie theater, and markets are so convenient all in one place. The square is very clean with lovely planters. Less crowded than other similar places in Rockville. Very accessible while using my mobility aids. Best ice skating rink in the area during winter season. Fun small water area for kids to play in over the summer. Easy parking on street or parking garages.
I love this area, anytime at day is a good place for a walk, enjoying and chilling, with good people around, family and pet friendly, cozy environment, great restaurants.. I really enjoy it.
We went to the Taiwan Bubble Tea Festival today and it was fun. Rockville town square is one of our happy places, when my daughter was growing up, we had so much fun coming here and spending time.
Fun to just find good food and drinks, ice skating in the winter, splash park in the summer, weekend live music. So much to do family friendly.
Trendy upscale shopping mall. Lots of parking so you shouldn't have a problem except in the busiest days. Small stores line the walkways and are a fun shop. Food choices are good but lacking in full service, upscale restaurants. Small water feature for the kids to play. Lots of tables and benches for relaxing. The experience was this is a clean and safe area to shop and be a destination for the family.
