Viriato is the leader of the Lusitanian tribe in the Lusitanian War against the Romans. The monument is located almost on the outskirts of the city.
I had read up on viriato and was keen to see the monument. I was sadly disappointed: not only does it look like a very poor excuse of a homage, but it had been vandalised and his sword was broken. It just looks sad.
Viseu is an amazing city with so much history.Love the Cathedral built in the 12 century,also the church is beautiful.
