This is very beautiful and a must visit place in Pudducherry. The place gives you peaceful vibes. Architecture of the church is not what we usually come across, it has vibrant colours. Sit there for a while to admire the beauty of it.

Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Tamil: தூய இருதய ஆண்டவர் பசிலிக்கா, French: Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Jésus de Pondichéry), situated on the south boulevard of Pondicherry in Puducherry, India, is an oriental specimen of Gothic Revival architecture. It contains rare stained glass panels depicting events from the life of Christ and saints of the Catholic Church. In recent years it has become one of the famous pilgrimage spots for Christians.0

Structure
This 100 years old historical church is 50 m long, 48 m wide and 18 m high with Latin rite cross shape in aerial view is in Gothic style. 24 main columns hold the structure. The biblical verse from 2 Chronicles 7:16 is written above the entrance door in Latin "sanctificavi locum istum, ut sit nomen meum ibi" which means "I have consecrated this house, that my name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there forever.". Inside the church there are glass pictures of 28 saints who were related to the devotion of Sacred Heart of Jesus.

A beautiful church close to the railway station. It is one of the oldest churches in the town and the interiors are very beautiful. The architecture is also great.
Feels very peaceful when inside. The church is very well maintained and always feels welcoming whenever I go there.
Parking is available just outside the beach. Worth visiting for sure!

I always love going to church, because the feel when I am inside the church is cannot be explained by any words or actions. Just love those minutes. It brings back the best memories of my life.

The Sacred Heart Basilica is a beautiful Gothic-style Catholic church located in Puducherry, India. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city, and for good reason. The church is simply stunning, with stained-glass windows, a vaulted ceiling, and a peaceful setting.

I was particularly impressed by the stained-glass windows, which depict scenes from the Bible. The colors are so vibrant and the detail is incredible. I spent a good long time just looking at them and trying to take it all in.

The church is also very peaceful. Even though it was a bit crowded when I visited, it was still a very calming place to be. I would definitely recommend taking some time to sit and reflect in the quiet of the church.

If you're ever in Puducherry, I highly recommend visiting the Sacred Heart Basilica. It's a truly beautiful and inspiring place

Oh, joyous day! Ventured into Pondy's ancient church, expecting architectural wizardry. It's like the grand old dame of churches, standing proudly in the town's belly. Bike parking is easier to find than your misplaced keys.

With a history that could out-age your grandma's recipe book, did it awe with architectural brilliance? Well, more like it's doing its own funky dance in the architectural realm – different, but not exactly winning an award.

In the heart of town, it's as peaceful as a sloth on a Sunday afternoon. Visited during what felt like the church's exclusive "No People Allowed" hours. If you're spiritually inclined, it's the holy grail. They even have seats for the holy mass – not La-Z-Boy level comfort, but who needs a plush seat when you're busy communing with higher powers?

So, step right in if you're on a quest for divine sarcasm or just want to witness a rebellious twist in the architectural saga. A round of applause for the architectural rebel! 🏰🤭

Beautiful place. A little different architecture than other cathedrals. While you can visit the place anytime during the day, it's quite lively during the mass time. Premises has quite some space and you will find things peaceful in there. As you come out of the premises, on turning to left side there are a couple of good tea shops and a little bakery which is worth exploring if you want a quick snack
