If you know anything related to the Venezuelan government you won't be surprised, when you learn how much sacrifice you will endure when coming to deal with incompetent government employees.

What to do & know to renew your passport in Mexico City

1. Arrive early. We arrived at 6:30 AM and there were 78 people in front of us waiting to enter. The embassy opened its doors at 6:30 and guided everyone into a waiting area with about 100 chairs. To enter the embassy you need to have your planilla with the correct appointment date.

2. The person in charge of the entire renewal process will provide a briefing when everyone is seated. He provides very useful information about what you must have and what to expect for the process. Listen closely to what he has to say. After his briefing, there is ample time for everyone to ask questions.

Things to have:

3. In addition to your actual passport and cedula, BRING A COPY of your passport or cedula, either will do. They will keep a copy for their records.

4. Go to DHL or UPS before your appointment to get an international mailing envelop if you are going to mail your passport overseas. Make sure the name on the mailer is exactly as it will appear on your passport. Make sure the address is exactly where you would like the passport sent. Make sure to keep all labels and receipts given to you by DHL or UPS; bring them to the embassy. Do not go to FEDEX or any other carrier because the embassy has a special arrangement with the local DHL and UPS, they have had issues with FedEx. The cost of the mailer is 800 Mexican Pesos, about 40-45 USD.

5. Official passport renewal processing starts at 8:00 AM. We were done at 12:29 PM. In every respect the staff was professional and kind.

6. The SAIME communication system between Mexico and Venezuela crashed twice while we were there. Be patient, the staff did everything possible to get things running again. Despite the crash, things were relatively efficient.

Hope this is helpful.

The public servants surely do their very best to attend a big amount of citizens coming from north and central America! Congratulations for your hard work!
