it’s refreshing that there are still restaurants not powered by food delivery apps. Sun Hong Wong is one of those places. an old school-ish Chinatown eatery that closes around 9 and serves a familiar simple menu of dishes. happened upon this restaurant after a long day of walking around Manhattan. gave up on the notion of cooking, wanted to grab some takeout to go…and discovered Sun Hong Wong’s lunch / dinner special menu ftw. end up ordering eggplant and veggies in garlic sauce over rice. took about 10-15 minutes, my food was ready and packaged neatly to go. the eggplant and veggies were sauced delicately and the rice was fluffy and didn’t taste dry or old. appreciated how flavorful and fresh my food was. glad i stopped here and picked up dinner as opposed to infinitely scrolling through an app for sustenance and being paralyzed by choice. this is a medium-sized sit-down restaurant with table service but they do a lot of takeout. the city is going to be a much emptier place without these old-school restaurants.

Ate there today. Had hot and sour soup along with sesame chicken. The waiter didn't seem to want to wait on us, we were the only Americans eating there at the time. Took forever to get our food and it wasn't busy at all. Maybe three other tables eating. Never brought us our rice. Didn't even bring us the bill, we had to ask for it as we were leaving. No follow up, no offer for anything else. Ate here 7 years ago and returned, but left disappointed. We eat better Chinese food in Southeast Michigan.

Randomly walked into this restaurant (a lot of people were waiting for taking out) and to be honest better than I expected! Exactly what you want for Shao La.

I went to this restaurant last week and ordered a few lunches. Their fried rice tastes just okay, but I recommend Singapore Chow Mai Fun. It tastes better than their fried rice. I'll def come back to order more!

A popular place, there were a lot of people on this weekday night. Make a reservation in advance if you come with a large group. There are lots of tasty dishes to eat here!

As a local raised in this neighborhood, New Hong Wong is one of the last remaining authentic Cantonese restaurants in Chinatown. The prices are relatively less expensive and the dine in portions are HUGE! This combination of low prices and very satisfying portions is an extremely rare find in Chinatown.
I've been eating at this restaurant for over twenty years, and despite some name changes during that time, the food quality remains the same. During lunch dine in tends to get very busy, so get there early to avoid the crowds. This is a great place for dinner and the service during dinner is more attentive than during lunch.
All the dishes are cooked in traditional Cantonese style. Nothing fancy but very satisfying. Their BBQ meats are good and worth trying as well.
I loved the fried salt pepper pork chops twenty years ago and I love them even more today! They are so tender and flavorful and definitely a must order.
Enjoy!

Lovely place to get local quality Chinese food. Glad to see they survived the pandemic. Everything we ordered tastes great and is reasonably priced.
The fried soft shell crabs were my favorite 😋🦀
