This is an important place to visit. I was a bit disappointed I couldn’t go in. The place was supposed to be open to the public on Tuesdays, but for some reason it was closed.

Every time I have an activity in the area I like to pay my respects to the ancestors…Rest in Power

This is a very interesting place to visit, but you also need to go to the visitor center, where the true history of the site can be found. Its quite amazing some of the things our ancestors were capable of and sites like this are a reminder of how far we have come.

The African Burial Ground Memorial in New York City is a powerful and moving tribute to the thousands of Africans who were enslaved and buried in the area during the 17th and 18th centuries. The memorial, located in Lower Manhattan, is a serene and contemplative space that honors the lives and legacies of those who were forced into bondage and suffered unimaginable hardships.
The design of the memorial is striking, with a central sculpture that symbolizes the resilience and strength of the African diaspora. Surrounding the sculpture are engraved markers for the 400 individuals whose remains were unearthed during the construction of a federal building on the site in the 1990s. These markers serve as a poignant reminder of the individuals who were laid to rest in unmarked graves and whose stories have largely been forgotten.
Overall, the African Burial Ground Memorial is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in learning more about the history of slavery in America and honoring the memory of those who suffered under its brutal system. The memorial serves as a somber reminder of the injustices of the past and a call to action for a more just and equitable future.

I gone there with my Best friend and her boyfriend to the burial ground for our history project and to be honest it’s sad. There are Men, Women and Children who are bury there and some of the corpses it’s hard to identify the body 😔
