I often bike in Fairmont Park and always cross the Falls Bridge. It has the best view across the Schuylkill. I stop in the middle and feel something spiritual standing on this bridge and looking at this Vista.

Falls Bridge in Philadelphia is a notable landmark with a rich history and architectural significance. Officially opened in June 1895, this steel Pratt truss bridge spans the Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park. It connects Kelly Drive at Calumet Street with Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive at Neill Drive, replacing a wooden covered bridge that previously occupied the site. The bridge’s design features stonemasonry abutments and two piers, supporting three Pratt-type pin-connected trusses. While initially planned as a double-decker bridge, the upper deck was never constructed due to funding constraints. The bridge, measuring 556 feet in length and 25.9 feet in width, facilitates two lanes of vehicular traffic and includes sidewalks on both sides. Enhancing its nighttime visibility, blue LED lights were added in 2007. The Falls Bridge not only serves as a functional piece of infrastructure but also as a historical and aesthetic element within the urban landscape of Philadelphia.

Cool bridge. It needs a paint job but cool to see anyway

Under appreciated, for taking us OVER the Schuylkill. Hell of a bridge. More like a one night stand, not one to bring home to mom. Jawn is robust Cuz.

Classic bridge over the river connecting the drives!!
Photogenic afternoon hiking destination overlooking the Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park. Park at the free WaterWorks lot. At a leisurely pace, you can stroll along the river up to East Falls Bridge and back within the 2 hour parking limit (about 4.5 miles round-trip). The steel truss bridge is a classic beauty. It was built in 1895 with intricate detailing on the railings. From the bridge, you can see back to Laurel Hill Cemetery and watch the river boat action. Saw my first outrigger boats. The river walk and pedestrian bridge are dog-friendly. East Falls restaurants had outdoor seating and several welcomed bikers. We will be back.
