We googled it and so happy with the experience we had at Souq Al Mina ! There’s possibly a store for all your needs, amazing cafés restaurants, hidden gems (beautiful stores) all the way…. My suggestion would be go there a little early in the evening spend 4-5 hours shopping for exotic stuff enjoying delicious meal, ice cream, sipping coffee !

Souq Al Mina: A Hidden Gem for Families in Abu Dhabi

Forget the glitzy malls and modern chains, Souq Al Mina is a breath of fresh air for families seeking a taste of authentic Emirati charm in Abu Dhabi. This beautifully restored waterfront market isn't just about shopping; it's an experience that transports you back in time while offering something for everyone.

For the little ones:

Discovery around every corner: Wander through labyrinthine alleys stocked with vibrant textiles, handmade crafts, and fragrant spices. Wide-eyed wonder is guaranteed as kids encounter hidden treasures like antique lamps and gleaming silverware.

Storytelling comes alive: Immerse yourselves in the rhythm of local life, watch fishermen mend their nets, and listen to animated haggling in the spice souk. These real-life scenes are more captivating than any cartoon!

Creative play spaces: Let imaginations run wild at the designated children's areas, featuring traditional swings, playhouses, and colorful murals.

For the parents:

Foodie paradise: Feast on an array of authentic Emirati and regional cuisines at the diverse range of restaurants and cafes. Savory seafood from the fish market, fragrant curries, and sweet Omani halwa - there's something to tantalize every palate.

Cultural immersion: Learn about Emirati heritage through artisan workshops and live music performances. Pick up Arabic calligraphy, weave palm baskets, or simply sip aromatic Arabic coffee and soak in the atmosphere.

Unique souvenirs: Forget tacky trinkets! Find genuine treasures like hand-woven carpets, intricately carved wooden boxes, and locally-made pottery. Be prepared to bargain and strike a deal!

What makes it special for families:

Safe and friendly environment: The pedestrian-only walkways and relaxed atmosphere create a safe haven for families to explore at their own pace.

Authenticity over artifice: This is no sanitized souk experience. Prepare for sensory overload in the best way possible, with genuine sights, sounds, and smells of Emirati culture.

Quality over quantity: Unlike sprawling malls, Souq Al Mina offers a curated selection of shops and restaurants, ensuring a focused and enjoyable experience.

Verdict:

Souq Al Mina is more than just a market; it's a living, breathing piece of Abu Dhabi's history. For families seeking an authentic and engaging experience, it's a hidden gem not to be missed. Get ready to wander, wonder, and discover the hidden magic of this charming souk!

Al Mina plant souq is the most amazing collection of 40 different stalls selling plants. From Euphorbias and bougainvilleas to fruit and veg. It’s vast and diverse and has more choice than anywhere nearby. You can also buy pots and fertiliser here. There are so many beautiful plants, even as a visitor it’s worth seeing.
