It's not a shiny building or website, but ignore that - this school has the best language teachers I have ever come across in Berlin! My spoken German has finally got properly conversational thanks to small group classes with Gunnar, Jaci and Marie. Language learning can be boring and repetitive, but they manage to make every class fascinating and fun.
For a long time I was looking for an intensive offline English course in Berlin (online classes, in my opinion, are less effective). And then I found it. I came to write a test to determine my language level and accidentally met a wonderful person who checked my test, talked through every point with me and really motivated me despite the presence of errors. I will remember his phrase “You think your language level is worse than it really is.” When I found out that he would be the teacher on my course, the last doubts disappeared. Carlos (our teacher) - the best! He is not just a teacher - he is passionate about his work! Exceptionally talented, charismatic, artistic - he actively uses these qualities in his classes. I receive a comprehensive answer to any question, even the strangest one. Previously difficult to understand topics turned out to be much simpler when we looked at them from a different angle (the teacher’s author’s approach). Now every morning I wake up with joy, looking forward to my next lesson at DAS Akademie with the best teacher I have ever met. Therefore, if you are now at the same stage that I was at some time ago - looking for a school to study/improve your level of English - you have found it. I sincerely recommend!
I very rarely write reviews, especially positive ones. I would like to say that I really liked and went to English courses, Carlos as a teacher is just wonderful, I think that 12 euros per hour, for an intensive course, if you count for a month of an intensive course

I go 2 months in a row, if you have time, I recommend it very much, since even online courses will never pump you up as much as offline and live communication with the teacher, 2 months I was allowed to move from insecure a2 to b1, this level allows me to maintain a dialogue, I want to reach a confident b2, I became a more confident and interesting interlocutor

A separate interesting point, the teacher tries to explain to you in all ways those moments that you may not understand) Special thanks to Carlos, and the girls from the administration

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend classes with DAS Akademie, so this review is based solely on my registration experience and not actual course content.

With a short window of time off, I did my research and chose DAS Akademie to complete an A1.1 intensive course. This was based on the central location and their more progressive teaching methods (I'll give one star for each of these).

After completing my registration form in the school, I was told I would hear from them by end of week to confirm the start date. This never happened, and when I followed up the next week I was told they didn't have enough students and would be in touch once they did.

Sadly this poor communication and lack of expectation management delayed me being able to start a course by two weeks, which is a significant chunk of time given that the time I do have is limited. It's a pity because everything seemed promising, but in the end I chose another school which was half the price.

I attended an evening C1.2 German course and was really happy with it. The evening courses are twice per week, 2.5 hours, which is more intense than my previous language school, even though the price is comparable.

I liked the teachers that we had (specials props for Patrick), the placement test before the course which included 15 minutes of conversation, and the clear communication from the school.

I'm also impressed by how quickly and smoothly the school managed to switch to online classes. We had just a few days of break and then the classes continued and were still very helpful.

I can really recommend DAS Akademie to anybody who wants to learn German in Berlin.

Absolutely incredible staff, teachers and German classes!

I have been attending DAS Akademie for 2 months now after being unsatisfied with my last German language school. I felt unhappy because the method of teaching and the big class groups slowed down my language growth. At first, I was sceptical whether going to another German school in Berlin would solve my problems. However, from the moment I stepped foot into the door of DAS Akademie I felt right at home.

The staff is incredibly welcoming. They make time to get to know you, ask about your day and always have a smile on their faces. Furthermore, the teachers are amazing. I had the privilege of getting taught by Patrick, a very charismatic guy with great teaching abilities. Not only that, but the method of teaching at DAS Akademie focuses primarily on improving your speaking skills. This was exactly what I was looking for, because I want to be able to communicate with Berliners in their mother tongue. The small class sizes (I was in a class with 5 other students) really help that. Although the courses are more expensive compared to my previous school, the quality of teaching is way superior and can be compared to the more expensive schools out there.

Before coming to DAS Akademie, I was very nervous and shaky when speaking German. However since joining the Akademie, I have become way more comfortable in speaking and can express myself more freely. I would definitely recommend anyone to come to the school. You will not regret it.

I really enjoy my German classes at the DAS Akademie Berlin in der Torstraße! I am finishing my A1.1 German course in a small group, all people from different countries. Our teacher is creating this comfortable environment for us where we can make our first steps in German language without any doubts. We have interactive games and a lot of dialogs so that we can practice the language all the time. The staff is excellent - DAS offers a special service, when you sign the contract and know the days you are not going to be in Berlin, you will get these days added to your course, brilliant for my travels in Germany. Snacks, tea in the break, great after class activities in German for free!

Actually many people assume that German is very difficult language (which is true) but when you start speaking from the first hour, the whole process of learning is so much easier and even amusing! Moreover, the place is really cozy and you can make a bunch of new friends while you are in Berlin! :)

BG:
