I've been to Maru a few times now. Pictured below we got the Tuesday Wagyu dinner deal with 500g of Wagyu and sides included for BBQ. You have to order an alcoholic drink with it, but because I'm allergic to most alcohol they let me order another drink. They were very accommodating :)
The bbq itself is delicious and they refill all the sides for you for free. The kimchi tasted meh, but it was still okay. I think its a preference thing. Meat was all great quality. Staff come and help you with your meal throughout. The deal doesn't come with rice, which can be a bit frustrating but it isn't too expensive to just buy some. I do wish it came with it though.

I think my favourite thing about maru isn't the bbq though, but the meals. The lunch specials are AMAZING value and taste delicious. The beef bulgogi was delicious and I'd 100% recommend. Same with the Kimchi pancake! Great crunch. I'll be coming back for the lunch specials definitely. If you're a big bbq fan, I'd definitely recommend the wagyu beef deal on Tuesdays.

Tastes really authentic! Delicious!

Side dishes: kimchi and konjac noodle mayo salad
Refillable, free, and was so good! The kimchi was really damn good. The sauce was rich, thick, and spicy. I wish they sell the kimchi to takeaway! Maybe they do. I forgot to ask.

Super tasty spicy pork dosirak. Lots of side dishes and the portion was HUGE. The photo makes it look small, but its bigger than you think it is. Super filling! The spicy pork was really darn good.

The spicy baby octopus was nice, with lots of sauce, onions, and green onions. Would be great if they have a version of spicy squid instead of octopus. You get to pick a spice level, and the mild level is totally not spicy at all haha. Kids can probably eat it! Comes with perilla leaves, mayonnaise, and tobikko.

The sweet chilli fried chicken was not that nice compared to the spicy pork, which definitely tastes more authentic. The sweet chilli chicken tasted so gentrified. Probably for kids. Would not recommend getting it. The portion was HUGE though. Came with a mountain of fried chicken.

Kimchi soup was great!

Seafood pancakes were huge and delicious with tiny shrimp and octopus pieces, but it could be crispier. A pair of scissors was given to cut the pancakes yourself, which was really fun. Pancake was on the soft side. The sauce given was too little, but dipping it into the spicy octopus sauce tastes better so its fine.

Had the soju bucket with friends and a bunch of korean fried chicken. Nice and crunchy, flavoured well with kind and helpful staff.

The venue had a great vibe as well with an upstairs and downstairs.

Had dinner there 30th July 2023, the service staff were very helpful and polite. Food was awesome. I recommend the crab claws and the seafood omelette. Korean rice wine was excellent, but a bit pricey. Definitely worth a visit. Very satisfied overall.

The Spicy Cold Buckwheat Noodles is authentic and delicious. I went during lunch time and there is lunch promotion. It cost $14.80, definitely worth the money. I ordered the cream fried chicken as well, it tastes ok. The service is very fast, my food were served with minutes after I ordered from the waitress. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the trainee at the counter very smiley and I felt welcomed. The ambiance is cozy, suitable for gathering or dining in alone.

My first time visiting Maru and it was a huge let down. Expect to pay a lot, this restaurant is very expensive and the portion sizes are small. The Wagyu beef was very tough and more like a regular cheap oyster blade cut. We ordered garlic and chilli but it would just quickly burn on the very hot bbq plate and then taste off. The staff were kind enough to eventually replace the hotplate so we could continue this was good service but the table water never arrived. The beef soup with tofu and vegetables was tasty and arrived very hot. There were food bits on the table when we arrived and the bowl and cutlery were dirty. The chairs and decor are very old. Not what I expected for a restaurant.

Mary got the big reputation on BNE. That my first time eating on there. Those foods are delicious and there a lot of people in there. But beef Bovine large intestine is a little too oily and has a lot of fat in it. Wishing the restaurant holder gonna update some Vegetables and Fruits on the menu to reduce those feelings.
