Failed to meet expectations

I was very excited to visit this bar, having booked in advance and received several recommendations - although dated - from reliable friends.
So you can only imagine my disappointment when Dimes failed to live up to its promise.

To begin with, they messed up my reservation - leaving us standing in the cold for 40 minutes.
Problems continued when we were finally seated as the table hadn’t been cleaned from the previous guest and was sticky.
Nonetheless, this didn’t stop at least two waiters swooping on us like vultures to demand our drinks order.
When we eventually acquiesced and put in for some refreshments, they took so long to arrive that I wondered whether they had sent someone to Barbados to fetch the rum.
Drinks in hand, we were then left alone except for a kind waitress wearing red - not one of the vultures - who replaced our water jug.
There was no hassle with settling up and leaving.

As I felt my trousers sticking to the grime coating the outdoor seating of this bar, I remembered that inside is often best.

Overall, I feel this bar may be better suited to a quiet date only - and sitting inside - from 10pm onward - when most of the riff-raff has headed off to sacrifice their brain cells in Hair of the Dog or some other equally hedonistic establishment.
I wouldn’t bother with it any earlier.

Dimes has a great vibe, and atmosphere. This place could be bustling and has so much potential. But the lackluster staff and slow service left me unconvinced this place was worthwhile. Really disappointing.

Great food, the salad was a 10/10. Carob açaí bowl was another hit 8/10. We also had some matcha lattes that were amazing. Didn’t love the tacos but overall very good brunch.

Really nice spot. Very interesting interior fit out, and a good vibe from servers and patrons alike. Carrots and potatoes appetisers were simple and tasty, and the grits main course with oyster mushrooms was quite special. Hominy soup packed with herbs and flavour. The pork with coconut rice was tasty, but definitely the least memorable. Saffron rice and buckwheat chocolate cake were pretty good, but the cake was a little dry, hence not quite 5 stars. Great for a special weeknight dinner!

4.5. Great for a healthy and delicious lunch. I sat at the end of the bar which wasn’t the most ideal spot because of the constant traffic but it was fine. The food was good and the service was also good.

Great vibes. Food was really tasty with some great flavors. Had the black rice bowl. Def add a protein. A little more lunch forward than dinner but worth the visit. Staff super chill and laid back. Bunch of cool spots nearby for a drink before or after too. Will be back.

4.5⭐️. Such a great little spot. Service was attentive but not overbearing. I had the wheatgrass margarita (well, 2 of them) because they tasted like a green juice that I should indulge in. Shared the shrimp toast (literally shrimp on a toast) and the corona beans and when I tell you I’ll be dreaming of those beans for the foreseeable future, I ain’t lying. I had the mussels (green curry broth) and was delighted by flavor and the portion. My husband had the black rice bowl and while enjoyable, seemed a bit more like a lunch dish. It’s a cute space with cool people. We will definitely return!!!
