Oldtown Hostel Otter

Wife and I stayed here during the film festival, and had a great time. We had a private room with an on suite bath, so wasn't too much of the traditional hostel experience, but at a much better price than any near by hotel. Staff were friendly and inviting and thee rooms were clean. Can't beat the location either!

Enjoyed my stay here! The staff was all so friendly and helpful. Although the common area/kitchen was too small, it was still social. There’s no stove in the kitchen which was a bummer. Still gets 5 stars from me, will stay again the next time I’m in Zürich!

This hostel is fantastic! It is by no means modern, but it does the job. The staff is very nice, we got in later because our train was delayed so we had a code to get in. Right away the bartender came over and helped up get in and she explained everything to us (while she was tending a very busy bar by herself). Very good location, and in the mornings they put out some cereal, milk, toast, butter, jam etc. For the high prices in Zurich it is great to have one meal covered!

Very nice hostel located centrally in Zurich, around 2 kms from Zurich Main Station and 500 mts from Zurich Stadelhofen. Rooms are quite clean and compact, but with every necessity functionality. You get individually lockers with keys, individual multi port charging outlets, and even a washbasin inside the room.

There are 2 bathrooms and 1 toilet on each floor, and the baths contain all required toiletries.

There is also a common room and a common kitchen where you get a fridge and a microwave and 24*7 coffee available. All bedsheets and linen to be deposited in laundry bag in the morning every day. There is also an attached bar at the ground floor, in case anyone's wondering.

Overall, a very decent value for money hostel, and it's the reason for its popularity is very much understandable.

Awesome hostel located a few minutes walk from the cathedral and the old town. Dorms are clean, spacious and have free lockers and charger ports for each bed. Each floor has a toilet and a shower and the building has an elevator. I came in early like around 10am and they let me check in a get the bed which was a jackpot after a night at the airport! Check out is quite early at 10am so that's something that could be later.

The only redeeming features about this hostle are the staff and the location! The rooms are cramed, the beds feel like they're about to fall apart, it seems like there are people living permanently/semi-permanently in some of the dorms (which is kinda creepy), there is one toilet and 2 showers per 12 people, the common room is small, the lockers are not the most secure, not all of the power points work and the rooms get super stuffy and smelly over night as there is no ventilation system. We booked for 3 days but only lasted there less than 20 hrs. If you're like me with low tolerance for these sort of things, this is not the hostel for you.

Stayed in private room with private bathroom with a friend. Was afraid of cleaning looking at the comments but found it clean, rooms are larger than it was looking in the pictures. Location is amazingly close to the train station and in the middle of the old town. Kitchen doesnt include stone but there is a microwave and small baker, enough to survive with the appliances. Breakfast is just milk and cereal or jam and bread so it wasnt good. But except for that, really good for the price. Too warm in winter. Bring airplugs.
