A bit like some religious wars, where 99% of the faith is agreed on, but they burn each other over the 1%. In many ways, other than being part of the much larger Anglo-French disputes, Seven Years War, Naoleonic wars etc, the American Revolution was a war which need never have happened, and I think John Adams at least would agree.
