BEST VALUE IS A RETURN TICKET to/from HKG.
This is also the place to purchase the Octopus Card for subway lines anywhere in Hong Kong SAR. To the visitor, the Octopus card is also useful for purchases, so one can load HKD to the at any MTR service desk.
The MTR Travel Planner App is very useful.

The Airport Express is one of the best ways to go from the airport to the city center. Fast train and comfortable to arrive to Kowloon or Hong Kong island.
Service level is going down. 2 ticket machines one closed for unknown reason and the other one is not working. Many people are lining up but just one staff is there.
The second time transiting here, lots of people complain that the sky garden is never open, even though there are no smoking places anywhere other than the sky garden. Rain?? Silly reason! Where is the rain!!

The fastest & cheaper way to get to city from the airport. It will connect to the rest of MTR stations.
It's cheaper using Octopus card than buying a single pass (smart ticket). You can get the Octopus card at Airport Express ticket counter at the airport. You'll need the card anyway for all transportation in Hong Kong. $110 for adult on Octopus card, you tap at the destination. I think 1 way ticket is $170 if you purchase at the counter.
The ride is very smooth & very comfortable. There's space for your luggage.
If you are a group of 3 -4 pax, then maybe taxi is a better option. Taxi ride to city can cost about $400+

Fast airport train to connect you to the rest of the HK MTR. You can either buy the ticket at the counter or ride to your destination and buy a ticket to exit. Well-maintained and clean train.
