Highly recommend adopting from Louis Animal Foundation! Very communicative, extremely caring and invested in finding the perfect home for the dogs. Her personal touch is refreshing compared to the transactional and competitive nature of the other "big name" dog adoption services in the city.

Called the number on screen and asked for information regarding payments to employees/managers/organization leaders. I'd also like to know how much each employee of this organization has donated themselves.
They do not provide that information. 🐟🐠
0 transparency deserves 0 donations. If I can't verify someone isn't doing something unethical with documents, then I can't support this organization.
If you truly want to help animals you have to be transparent. Else you get an Oprah and Dewayne Johnson.
I wouldn't mind donating at all. I called to see if I could. Without that information, it's not happening. I'm not going to be donating if some person there has a salary outside of the ideal expected range.
If you are there to save animals, then you shouldn't mind making all that information public. If you can't do that then there is a problem. I don't like secrets. Especially when it deals with my money.
I don't doubt that they also provide and do good work for animals in need. That's besides the point. I would like to ensure there is no grift going on. I would like to maintain the idea that these humans attempting to care for these animals and help them would do anything to satisfy that goal.
If they refuse to do so then I really don't think they care that much.
Here is a Google search of how much their CEO makes:
"The salary of the CEO of ASPCA is $852,231 per year. They are also entitled to $276,00 in bonuses and benefits in the amount of $47,859."
Wow!
There's no justification for that.

ASPCA is the best ever! I wish I had millions it would go to them! They do so much more that people don't know about! My sweet baby girl died suddenly, the devastation was so much to handle I lost a daughter not a dog, the ASPCA was amazing. They helped ME they literally helped me, I passed out when they took my baby from my arms, they where kind, patient understanding, they really cared that my baby died! They even wanted to pay for a cab ride back home! Everyone please donate please, they really do amazing things for animals and for humans! Please donate, you are saving 2 lives the animal and the human who can't live without there babies! PLEASE DONATE SAVE LIVES! DONATE DONATE DONATE without your donations they can't do the wonderfully work they do!

PAWS NY continues to provide some of the most valuable services to NYC pet owners. I am continually amazed at how well-run and effective this organization is, and how they manage to help so many pet parents meet and overcome the challenges they face in providing care for their pets. I salute the staff and volunteers who make these miracles happen every day!

I had a great experience working with the ASPCA to adopt my furry friend. I filled out an application on Thursday, was contacted for an interview on Saturday, spoke to the vet and was able to meet/pick him up by Monday.
They did a really good job of understanding me and my particular wants/needs with a dog. While the dog I initially applied for wasn’t a good match, they were able to connect me with an incredible dog who fits my lifestyle perfectly.
They did a really good job of preparing me to understand my dogs specific needs. They provided documentation on his medical history and supplied me with 2 weeks worth of toys, treats, and food. They checked in with me periodically after the adoption to continuously offer resources. I would definitely recommend going through ASPCA to adopt your new furry friend.

There is a ASPCA worker sitting smoking weed ain't they supposed to be walking the dog the disappointed part is that I put in for a job and people like this get the job the ones that don't work at all. She got braids and she dark skin she just walked inside ASPCA .

I’ve been calling ASPCA everyday all 5 Burroughs to get help in where to make an appointment to get my cat spayed/neutered n I get no help I can’t keep her if she’s spaying. So sad because I found her bleeding, hurt and abused. I took care of her I like loved her and now I have to give her up because my landlord wants animals that are fixed and I can’t get any help so much for ASPCA 😡

PAWS NY is a wonderful non-profit organization that more people should know about. They primarily help low-income disabled individuals keep their pets in their homes. It's easy to sign up and find a volunteer opportunity in your neighborhood. I walk a dog once a week and it's been great getting to know the owner and the dog.

Disabled after an injury and in my later years, one of my biggest worries was whether I would be able to care for my cats. If I could no longer care for them, who would want and love them? PAWS has made such a difference in my life - my beloved cats are still part of their family with me, and I have a wonderful volunteer Mia who comes in to bring cheer to us all and care/ support for my Lola and Gomez. It has been life altering for us. Every day is literally lighter and I am not alone.
With the support of PAWS, I have recently been able to welcome a service dog into my home as well, which is making a great difference in my functioning and continued ability to live independently.
It would be hard to put into words how wonderful I think PAWS NY is, or how grateful I am. In my experience, they bring integrity, kindness, compassion and purpose in their every endeavor.

Getting to know new people and play with animals at the same time -- can't imagine a better volunteer project! I have been volunteering with PAWS NY for more than five years and genuinely look forward each week to visiting my clients and their pets. PAWS NY provides great resources to volunteers (discussion portal, animal behavior tips, ways to volunteer more) and I've always felt supported.

Paws NY is an amazing place to volunteer. You are helping clients who are ill or disabled with their pets so that they don't have to give them up to shelters. You get to meet wonderful people and their pets. I always feel great helping these people. Paws NY inspires me and I am so happy that I volunteer there.

I’ve been a PAWS NY volunteer for almost two years.Their mission is unique in that they help secure the human bond between seniors/disabled individuals and their pets by providing a variety of services that their clients are no longer capable of providing. I used to have a dog that has passed on but could not imagine what it would have been like if I had to part with him because I could no longer walk him. Dog walking and kitty litter maintenance are two examples of the services that PAWS NY provides through their pool of volunteers. I can tell you as a volunteer that PAWS NY is a very well run organization that is passionately devoted to their clients, their clients pets and to their volunteers. To my knowledge, there is no other organization like PAWS NY in NYC.

I decided to volunteer for PAWS NY after I retired. I walk dogs weekly and also occasionally will take a pet to the vet. PAWS NY is wonderful. I get to help animals and help people at the same time. The clients are so appreciative It's a win-win-win. It's easy to join up and find posts, though outer borough volunteer are especially welcome.

Every time I've told non-New-Yorkers about PAWS, they are so envious that the organization doesn't exist in every city around the world! It's such a great mission (helping older folks with mobility issues take care of their beloved animals) and couldn't be a more seamless volunteer experience. You only commit as much as you're able and it's so easy to be matched with a person/pet combo in your neighborhood. If you're looking to volunteer with pets AND people, PAWS is the answer!

I appreciate what they do for birds but I do doubt the idea with cats.
If cats were considered wildlife, why are they fed on a regular basis and pet by feeders?
If cats were considered domesticated, why are they allowed to be outside houses or fences?
Unlike some birds in sanctuary, most cats are healthy and don't need delicate care. Cats naturally hunt birds for fun, even though not necessarily for prey. Keeping cats in this way contradicts what they claim to maintain wildlife.

I adopted my beautiful senior here. They were so helpful in the whole adoption process that even after months of adopting him, they were still in contact to make sure everything was going well!

I am thrilled to share my experience with SPCA International, who generously granted our shelter with much-needed funds. Thanks to their support, we were able to not only extend our shelter but also renovate a special area specifically designed for paralyzed dogs. The impact of this project has been truly remarkable. Our shelter has been able to help more dogs than ever before, and the paralyzed dogs in our care are now able to live more fulfilling lives. We are incredibly grateful to the SPCA International for their support and generosity, and we look forward to continuing our work together to help animals in need.
Thank you once again to the SPCA International for making this incredible project a reality.

A beautiful experience from beginning to end and the whole thing one week. Everyone I had to deal with and formed and knew their job and my cat. Then the process easy as possible for me and HoneyThunder. Who's name is now HoneyLew. Very happy and her new house already and she loves to be at the window.
Blessings,

As an amazing organization that does inspiring work to help pets in need around the world and serves as a beacon of hope in the animal rescue world, receiving grants from SPCA International has been an incredible honor. Working alongside their kind, caring, incredible, and passionate team has been a wonderful experience. They make everything turn-key, allowing us to focus on our mission of saving pets in need. We are so grateful for their support and dedication to making the world a better place for animals. It has been a true honor to collaborate with them. On behalf of the entire Pet Rescue Pilots crew, we extend our heartfelt thanks to SPCA International for supporting nonprofits, the pets they serve, and the families that get to love them!

We are grateful for the beautiful and great work they do, the support they give us, which is so important for our country.
They are people with big hearts who make up SPCAI and we are happy to be part of their program. We have been able to help hundreds of animals with your support, recover and give up for adoption. They have supported us in difficult situations such as hurricanes that have caused so much damage. It's a great program! thank you so much

They helped us with a donation for the construction of our animal shelter. After many years of waiting and saving, struggling with bureaucracy, we have finally started the construction of our own shelter. Education, empathy, are basis for the future. We should not only be collecting animals, and we want to do more activities, hopefully this year we can open it!
Thanks so much

My experience with the ASPCA was an utter abomination. On Friday 12/16/2022 "Milkshake" was released to me as a fast-track foster. He was intended to be an adoption, but because of a potential ear surgery that he required, we had to foster until after the shelter vet performed the second surgery.
Upon meeting the behavior team, they mentioned in passing that he had grabbed at a person's pant leg during a walk and also had canine leash reactivity. This did not disuade them from releasing him to me. They sent me home with food, toys, and helped lead him into our Lyft ride home. It did not disuade me from taking him as I have been adopting dogs with behavioral issues for decades and am a certified trainer specializing in behavior.
As agreed, I returned with Milkshake to the shelter Sunday evening for his medical evaluation. I emailed prior to let them know that I did not believe a second surgery was necessary. With supervision and care the surgical site was no longer bleeding, but I would defer to the vet.
Upon meeting with ASPCA personnel, I stated that unless it was absolutely medically necessary it was not in Milkshake's best interest to remain overnight. I was told he must stay. I asked that due to his known reactivity to please not walk him (Manhattan is too stimulating), and if they must, please use a head harness and allow him to carry a tennis ball. My feed back was disregarded.
I was informed the following day that he was involved in an "incident" and the person required medical attention. How did this happen you ask? Sheer negligence.
After two days of being managed by the Director of Foster Relations (Eileen Hanavan), I was informed by the Senior Manager of Behavior (Adi Hovav) that Milkshake would be humanely euthanized due to the lack of warning signals and the severity of the incident. Let's examine this for a moment:
1. The shelter readily released a dog that had already exhibited canine and human reactivity to me on Friday.
2. The shelter allowed the leash reactive dog to be walked by an "experienced handler" on a busy Manhattan street.
3. I was told that the dog was being walked on the left side of the handler, but yet had enough freedom that he was able to cross in front and attack a person on the right.
4. The shelter disregarded my feedback regarding proper safety and handling of the dog
5. The dog had not displayed aggressive tendancies during his first few weeks in the shelter. This behavior surfaced after neuter surgery. It is not uncommon for a dog to display what are often temporary reactive tendencies soon after a neuter.
6. The ASPCA was not open to discussing potential alternatives to euthanasia (e.g.; meds, rescues that specialize in behavioral issues, etc.) to allow the dog to decompress and potentially be rehabilitated.
My heart goes out to the individual that sustained injury. It is a horrific, traumatic incident that was completely avoidable.
My heart breaks for Milkshake who paid the ultimate price for human negligence and error.
I fully recognize that we can not allow dogs to pose a danger to society. I also recognize, and know first hand, that often these dogs can be worked with, rehabilitated, and become good canine citizens. Have we learned nothing from the Bad Newz Kennel/Michael Vick debacle?
In this case my assumption is that euthanization was the only option the ASPCA considered because of potential litigation from the victim. Euthanizing the animal just looks better in court.
Any way you look at it, the ASPCA made grave errors in judgement. If the dog was deemed dangerous enough to euthanize due to unpredictability, why was he being walked on a front clip harness (no control if his head) after already lunging at someone days prior? What humans are being held accountable for this? Any? Milkshake died in vain, alone, and was then carted to the dump. RIP sweet boy. I will never forget you!

We are very happy with SPCA International, they never leave us alone in the difficult times, particularly during the natural and un-natural disasters. SPCA International always join hand with us to save the animals of Pakistan. Thank you SPCA International Team for all your cooperation to support animals.

We brought our son as he just loves all cats. We were very disappointed to learn that you can’t enter the sanctuary, only look from afar. We saw two to three cats but were really expecting to be able to interact with them.
The two women who were there working were very rude. I hope this review helps others manage their expectations.

Cute little cat sanctuary. The cats are more active after 4-5pm. Tons of geese, pigeons, and squirrels coexist. Lovely scenery.

The grant from the ISPCA was a lifeline to our shelter, having suffered from the impact of Covid. The grant enabled us to keep afloat, to keep the few staff we have for the shelter, which meant the shelter animals could still be kept well fed and have access to the compounds. The process was very simple and focussed on the animals. Thank you so much ISPCA.

Had no idea this place was here! So many cute cats and many hungry geese and squirrels…they seem to all get along and even share. Who knew!

We went for a spontaneous trip to Roosevelt Island and came across the sanctuary. The sanctuary had a few cats and geese. During our visit we met Rosanna who works as a volunteer there and gave us a lecture on wild geese. Most geese had wing deformities called 'angel wings' which is caused by humans feeding bread to waterfowls and geese. The conversation with her was very educational and we learned things we didn't know. With that being said we're pleading to anyone not to feed geese bread or anything at all as it will cause irreparable damage to their wings!

Nothing grabbed me on it.

Corazones Gatunos is a shelter and temporary home for cats in Lima- Peru. We take cats from the streets in Lima and give them the care they need so they can be adopted. Corazones Gatunos opened in 2019, and since then, we have received the most valuable moral and economic support from SPCA International. The grants that SPCA International had awarded Corazones Gatunos had allowed us to continue with our work, giving our cats all the facilities they needed to heal physically and emotionally.
The moral support we receive with each of those grants has been of the utmost importance; they reaffirm SPCA International's confidence in our work and impulse us to continue and improve our work.
Since Corazones opened its doors in October 2019, more than one thousand cats have been taken from Lima's streets; from those, 810 have found a new home.
Thank you, SPCA International, on behalf of Corazones Gatunos team and all the cats rescued and to be rescued.

Sadly it looks like the only CAT you'll see there now is the construction kind. It seems the shelter and much of the natural flora was callously destroyed to make way for more concrete, instead of something more harmonious with nature.
Update: upon Ken's return trip, he noticed that there is still a standing shelter closer to the FDR park. So you may still be able to find cats!
