The oldest church in Tbilisi. For its historical significance alone it’s worth dropping by. At the time I visited there was a funeral happening so we could not enter but the outside and surrounding grounds itself are quite impressive and beautiful. You can clearly see the parts of the structure that was rebuilt over time with the difference in bricks and stones. I’ve walked by both in the day and night. At night it’s lit up.
The view from outside of The Anchiskhati Basilica of St Mary, the oldest surviving church in Tbilisi, Georgia. It belongs to the Georgian Orthodox Church and dates from the sixth century. Below you can see the point where 2 rivers merge and join.

St. Mary's Church, Bell's Church, was built in the VI century, during the reign of King Dachi Ujarmeli. According to legend, during the Arab rule, "Anchiskhati" was the only temple in Georgia where Church ministers were allowed to ring bells, so it was also called the "Church of the Bell". Nowadays The church have a different name - Anchiskhati, renamed in the XVIII century, when an icon of the Savior carved by Beka Opizar (XII century) was transferred from the monastery of Anchi (southern Georgia).
The church was very near to Old Tbilsi Gate, it's just beside Marionette Clock , I really love the street , it's serene and calm. The church is nice , has some good views , one can view presidential palace. There will be sometimes beautiful paintings, books outside the church for sale.
