Forget about flimsy cuts - Yakiniku Toraji elevates the yakiniku experience with melt-in-your-mouth, high-quality meats. Each bite is a celebration of expertly chosen and impeccably butchered meats, cooked to perfection over your own grill. Prepare to be spoiled by the variety and sheer deliciousness - your taste buds will thank you!

Terrible service, no water, food was extremely slow to come out, and the waitress forgot to put in orders of food.

The waitress saw we were visibly upset and unhappy because of the horrible service and slow speed, so guess what she did? She forced a 20% tip on us! Yikes.. And she didn’t seem apologetic AT ALL even it’s totally her fault that she didn’t put in the order, plus the terrible service. Would not come back again.

This place used to be my favorite but I’ll never come back again. It’s also very costly with the mediocre quality of food. Average I spent was $90 pp.

Absolutely atrocious service … we booked for a group, got seated and was scolded 5 minutes in that we must get started immediately then we chose the tier of ayce we wanted and we sat there for a whole 30 mins without any food or even water? Later on they gave us a pitcher after us asking several times but… they never gave us cups? This is outrageous, they even scolded us for “asking” for water since she was serving others 😓.. as the night went on it got worse the service. Here’s a video of us struggling we literally drank out of our plates… they just watched us and walked by and still never gave us plates, there was 3 workers, 1 waiter who was absolutely sassing us and rude, 1 older lady who was snarky and the last worker was a young lady who actually was our saving grace, she’s the only reason we didn’t barge out. She was accommodating and an amazing soul, too bad the rest of the establishment is a absolute mess of a place
The lady who scolded us for asking for water brought back our bill and said out 15% tip was too low and needed to be at least 18 tip is for service but in a place were we had minimal service and got scolded lmao better go somewhere else for anything

We went last Saturday with a party of 5. We took a chance since we didn't make a reservation. At first, the host was like, "You'll have to wait an hour and half. Of course we were like, okay, we will come back another time. Luckily, there was a table that was finishing early, and we only waited 15 .inutes before being seated. We did the basic all you can eat. There are so many options to choose from and totally worth it. Our standouts were the sirloin, rib eye, pork belly, and garlic shrimp. Their pork gyozas were also amazing. Their black sesame seed ice cream and green tea ice cream are also really good too.

Authentic, tasty and totally worth it. Servers are Japanese I guess. And I also fine Japanese people eating there. Love the meat and the sauce! Will visit again. Saved!

An amazing experience with the wagyu beef tasting menu. It was a delight to try various cuts of wagyu beef, each prepared in a unique cooking style. The service was also commendable. I would advise to arrive with an appetite, as the portions are generous, especially considering it’s a tasting menu full of wagyu beef

Found an egg shell for my beef tartar, the server’s attitudes great,he exchange it very fast to a new one.Later found black color human hair in my ice cream….it’s probably eyelashes or something, also got refund for that😅

The servers attitudes are all very nice but the food quality is really concerning🤮 this isn’t supposed to happen for what I paid.

One of my favorite places in NYC. I always get the yuzu martini, fried chicken, shrimp and quail appetizer, and a selection of meats. The shrimp and quail appetizer is a must try.
The ambience is fantastic and service is excellent. The restrooms are also very posh and unique. This is the perfect place for a date night or for catching a meal with old friends.

Been here a few times before, really liked it, comparing to those chained yakiniku restaurants. This is the first time visit, post covid, still enjoyed it.

Price & Food - To my surprise, they launched AYCE menu, which I’ve never expected in a Japanese restaurant. Pretty good deal, with $38/$48/$58 level, all comes with appetizers, sides and desserts. We went with the $58 one with US Kobe. Quality of the meat are not great but definitely beyond average. Well seasoned and fresh. Worth the price! And a great selections of food.

Service - slow but very typical hospitable Japanese style service.

Vibe - honestly I prefer the traditional Japanese style but the place was clean and neat.

Parking - easy street parking.

Would definitely return.

Staff were extremely friendly and checked on your table frequently, but not to an annoying amount. The meat here has a much higher quality compared to other bbq places which balances out with the price. Recommend for a nice dinner with your partner or group hangout if you’re looking for a higher class dining experience.

The atmosphere is very nice in this location, plenty of space for seating and the prices are good for the amount you get. The meats were very fresh and it was juicy. I got the she so hungry meal for 2. The soy sauce was really good to dip with. ( was too hungry and didn't have a chance to take a picture of the meats :( the takoyaki was also very fresh and crispy yet soft.

Good Japanese sushi and tempura

40.72965 -73.98854 Yakiniku West is a Japanese yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurant where customers prepare bite-size meat and vegetable dishes on gridirons over a gas/electric grill in each table. The origin of today’s yakiniku is considered Korean barbecue, one of the most popular dishes in Korean cuisine. Beside yakiniku, the restaurant offers sushi, sashimi, salads, udon soup and Korean bibim-bap.

In June 2023, we were offered a table next to the restroom door. It took us a while to move to another table without the restroom smells. When ordering, we stayed on the Japanese side by opting for miso soup ($3.50) as a starter and shrimp tempura rolls ($12) & salmon toro sushi ($9.95) with rice ($3.50). Instead of a bottle of soy sauce on the table, the soya sauce was presented in a small bowl. We needed a refill.

The sushi and tempura had good flavour and texture. It was true to its Japanese roots without too much American influences. The Asahi beer ($6) tasted very good. Recommended.

We had a unique experience at Yakiniku Futago for lunch much on a Friday afternoon. It’s fun to cook the food ourselves. It was a bit new to us, but it’s fun to try. The steak and chicken had great flavors. Next time I probably will try more stuff there.

Over priced "Japanese" (really Korean) restaurant with great service and nice atmosphere. Don't be surprised spending $150 per person. The wagyu sushi was great especially after you took the rice off (reverse sushi). The salad was trash- badly cut. The rest of the meat was fine - but you do all the work. Overall- small amounts of food for ridiculous prices.

Went here for a friend’s birthday dinner. I’m not entirely sure if it’s because they were understaffed but it took about 25 minutes for someone just to take our drink order/ acknowledge us. The apps were pretty tasty and the meats were decent. I just wish the service was a bit faster. Overall we pretty much spent an hour waiting. And they also tacked on another dish to our bill which was never served. Thankfully we were able to ask them to take it off, but it just didn’t add to the experience.

We've been here a couple of times and the food never disappoint! We got the special wagyu this time and the server cooked it for us. Every part of that meat was so delicious! We also tried the cold noodle this time and it's a perfect refresher after the jbbq. The dessert matcha shaved ice was really good too. 10/10 would recommend and would definitely come back again!

Food was so well executed! Very authentic Japanese flavor and umami. Even the salad was really tasty. It was lightly dressed with a soy and light mustard dressing, it had a very nice kick to it but not overwhelming at all.

Agedashi Tofu is one of the best I've had in so long, fried perfectly, not greasy and with that little chewy goodness and soft inside when you bite into it. The dashi broth was perfectly seasoned with sweet, savory and tons of umami flavor

The grilled meats were very high quality and just the right portions. Pricing was very good for two person portion, the "So Hungry" platter was only $60.00 for 2 people and the highlight was the beef tongue or gyu-tan. They sliced it perfectly, not too thin that you can't taste the flavor, but thick enough that it wasn't chewy at all.

Highly recommend this restaurant and I can't wait to go back again! It is also very clean inside and the servers are very nice and attentive.

Please visit here if you want to treat yourself with very authentic flavor of Japanese BBQ! I loved all kinds of meat but especially A5 Wagyu beef steak was 💯💯💯

Also, don’t forget to order a cold noodle in the end. They also use northern Japanese style noodle same as Futago which is amazing!!

My wife and I recently got back from our first trip to Japan and Nikutei Futago transported us back to the peaceful alleyways of Kyoto, for a culinary experience we won't soon forget.

We had the Lunar New Year menu which was on the pricier side but included some rare cuts from acclaimed Japanese Wagyu brands Matsusaka & Omi. The menu was presented very well with each flavor seamlessly transitioning to the next and a very satisfying rice & eel dish and desert to cap things off, leaving us feeling contently filled.

The private room with a Garden view was an excellent touch and the server was welcoming and skilled with presentation and preparation. The chef was kind enough to send us off with a delicious to-go meal which we enjoyed the next day. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an authentic Japanese fine-dining experience.

It was my first visit to the restaurant to celebrate a special occasion.
I’m no way considering myself a regular to fine dining. This experience was very different than what I was expecting.
I ordered a “late blossom” cocktail for the drink and the special “treasure chest” meat special for the entree.
I did enjoy the drink that I ordered. The cocktail was well-balanced for my taste. The meat was good but not much different than what I could get elsewhere for wagyu beef.
I am no expert in Japanese restaurants and I am not sure what exactly a Japanese steakhouse is supposed to feel like but this place didn’t fit into the picture I had in mind.
It felt like it had some mixture of Korean items incorporated into the Japanese menu.

The price was too high to justify the food and the service. I was expecting a service that would leave an impression but it was just average. I also felt like I had to fight for the staff’s attention to order.
It just felt like a restaurant up charging for the location but didn’t offer much else than an expensive bill.
The impression I got from the visit was not that of great food but a restaurant that upsells an average menu item at a high price.

The quality of the cuts of the meat, the on-point performance of the waitress, and the welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant are nothing short of exquisite. It is expensive but definitely worth the price, a must-have dinner location for atleast once a year.

Kenny is awesome! came here at 10 pm, thought it would be a quick awesome “thick cut beef-tongue” journey but none of the waitresses helped me. I waited for 15 min and got upset, then Kenny came and saved the day. Meat is great, service (Kenny) is great!
Phenomenal restaurant. We wanted to go to the place next door originally (which is also great) but we’ve seen this one and I decided to experiment. We’ve never done the “cook for yourself” thing with various meats before so this was our first time and we had a blast. We tried the wagyu and the beef tongue. Clearly the meat is high quality and it was thinly sliced so it’s ready in a minute or two. Both the edamame and the cabbage appetizers were good and my bibimbap was amazing as well as my husband’s curry. Sake is also tasty and we arrived at the right time as there was happy hour with 50% off drinks. Yay! Our waitress was lovely, polite and very helpful (as I mentioned this was our first time in a restaurant like this so we needed some guidance, lol). The tea at the end of the meal was such a thoughtful gesture. Highly recommended!!

I’ve been twice and each time it has NOT disappointed. Pricey, but worth it. I’m not a huge meat lover but this meat is honestly such good quality. Their other dishes were soooo good also, you can tell they really prepare it with so much elegance and intention a their flavors are so on pount and there’s so much depth to the taste of each dish.

Overall very good.
Seems really understaffed and some of the meat they cooked for us just ended up getting burnt. Also waited for something like 20mins for our dessert (turned out delicious tho).
Ended up being a bit too much fatty meat, but it’s due to my own choice of the royal course :P The next in price range is probably better.

An amazing A5 wagyu meal is just the tip of the iceberg. It was an experience of quality, service, flavors, and art of food. The fact that they get their beef from their own farm in Japan and source their ingredients from Japan is a testament to their menu. This is a must try experience.

The tasting course was a massive letdown. The tasting course with the sake pairing is just under 500 per person. For that price point, I expected bigger portions of wagyu. That’s the whole premise of the restaurant. A major red flag was the abundance of gold flakes as a garnish. It doesn’t add anything to the culinary experience. A5 wagyu doesn’t need gold flakes to elevate it. I feel restaurants use the gold flakes just to inflate the price point with little effort.

A fabulous high end wagyu experience. The room was private and intimate, and the whole resturant had a cozy high class feel. The wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly and made the experience perfect. The food was varied and delicious, with numerous different preparations all having a Japanese feel. They were very gracious in customizing to dietary restrictions. Overall an experience I will not forget.

Fantastic quality for both food and service. The wagyu quality is beyond description. My husband is allergic to seafood and the chef customized my husband’s meal and not in a lazy way. The restaurant really give thoughts to what to substitute the seafood for my husband. The server is very considerate and well knowledgeable. He was able to answered any question we have. The overall experience is amazing. We love all the dishes. Just great.

Pretty good yakiniku, although it’s a little pricy but overall is pretty good!
I would recommend the assorted set and the assorted marinated beef set!
The raw egg rice is pretty good in terms of the flavor, but the $7 price is a bit pricy.

Overall, still a recommended yakiniku restaurant with great service and meat!
Very nice high end Japanese steakhouse. Prepare yourself for everything on the menu to be expensive but completely delicious melt in your mouth amasing. Service was great, food was great, lots of great sake as well. You can sit at the bar and get a limited menu if the restaurant is full and you'll still get a pretty epic meal.

Super delicious new concept from the same owners as the popular Yakiniku Futago. This place offers a high end A5 wagyu tasting menu. The courses were all prepared in a way that let the ingredients shine. The whole meal was really well-paced and had the perfect amount of food. Looking forward to returning soon.

The food here was really great. Everything we ordered was excellent! We did a la carte and so we got try a bunch of things and some of the more popular dishes.

Only slightly negative points were that the chopsticks, for such a nice restaurant, are extremely low quality--like the kind that give you splinters. And the staff wasn't very attentive at first...we had to get someone's attention in the end because it felt like we were invisible.

All in all a good experience.

Good quality food, fast service. The assorted beef platter is a good option. The individual meat dishes are much smaller than what you see on the photos.

Stick to the BBQ meats, the other dishes are so so.

Service is fast and very friendly.

Came here with my husband to eat dinner one day. The interior of this restaurant is so beautiful and had a “zaseki” seating area for customers to take their shoes off and sit comfortably, while enjoying the meal.

We decided to order 2 asahi beer first to cheer, then ordered their Toraji course to get the full experience. We started off with the soup, yukke, salad and wagyu beef sushi. They all tasted so good with the beef sushi literally melting in your mouth (cue in the drool). Finally, we started cooking the meat, which we literally finished every single piece in one bite. It was definitely some of the best meat I’ve ever tasted and would absolutely come here again for a celebratory occasion!

Great food with stellar service! We ordered beef tongue and the 5-kind assorted meat with salt, and they taste extremely flavorful. The rice was also unexpectedly good with the bbq sauce. The waiter was super nice and helped us ask what kind of rice the restaurant uses.

10/10 would recommend if you're trying to find a place with great Japanese bbq and service!

Good Yakiniku place in the NYC. They have Japanese wagyu directly delivered here.

Update after their official opening: not as good as expected. Except for the prime ribeye, other beef doesn’t taste as good as before. Also, it seems like they are very understaffed. One of the servers forgot to serve one dish from the Omakase and didn’t introduce the dish at all when serving (sorta just left it on the table). Extremely unattentive- I had a lot trouble getting the servers attention to get the check and pay……..

Update one year anniversary at Toraji: Situation of understaffing seem to be better! Meat is still not as good as it before the grand opening, but it seems to be stable. Highly recommend A La Carte!! You’d have a great time.

We saw the soft opening information about Yakiniku Tohbay on Facebook. We love BBQ and it looked really appealing so we decided to give it a try. We did reservations for a group of 4 on a Saturday night but it’s not really needed since there were lots of tables available.

The options on the menu were various, especially for testicular which is relatively rare compared to other restaurants. We had their Kimchi, Liver Sashimi, Assorted Beef Platter and Japanese Wagyu Beef Platter.

The food was decent, especially the beef platter, which was fresh & good quality with reasonable price. We won’t recommend to order the Wagyu Beef Platter since it didn’t taste better than the beef platter with much lower price.

However, the entire dining experience wasn’t pleasant due to their service. The staff served everything quickly but their attitude was reluctant and rude. One of the reasons might have been the lack of staff, but it wasn’t that busy.

Reason for visiting: dinner while on vacation
Date/time of visit: Wednesday night, ~7:00 PM
Parking: street parking; we walked from the Marriott Residence Inn Manhattan/Central Park
Party size: 17 (6 kids)
Environment/ambience: was quiet, until we got there, haha. No TVs, clean restaurant. Bathroom was clean as well. First floor has a small bar I believe; we were sat on the second floor. We were split into 2 tables right next to each other since our party was large. Each table had 2 burners, cooking pits.
Service: was good. He was attentive and came around often, was always around when we needed something.
Food: we ordered the following: pork belly, octopus/squid, kimchi, assorted Wagyu meat, assorted beef, beer, sake, rice (grain and white)
Cost: expensive, ~$1200 total. When they label meat by the grams, you know it will be expensive (portions in LA seem to be more than NY)

The price is reasonable with good quality meat.
Wagu and Diamond cut galbi was really good.
Good for big groups.
But all side dishes weren’t so good especially Korean noodle soups and other Korean dishes. Plus desserts were disappointing. Servers weren’t polite.

Japanese barbecue restaurant run by Japanese - al la crate menu options available.

The food is pretty good - really loved the bibimbab. The set menus are slightly small so order more if you were planning to have that.

Service was great and was able to cater to our requests.

My husband and I weren’t overly impressed here. We’ve been to plenty of yakiniku places and this is probably closer to the bottom of the list. It was okay, but most of the meat we got ended up being quite chewy and hard to eat. The service was great. Good drink deals for beer and highballs. Ambiance was pretty good, I wish it wasn’t as dark as it was. They have a Japanese style table in the very back which is awesome. I got the matcha/taiyaki dessert which was honestly probably my favorite part of the meal. The matcha ice cream was really good and it’s hard to find taiyaki and it was pretty great as well. I was just underwhelmed here and probably wouldn’t end up going back.

Got to finally try this place out and it was really good! Great selection of meat and great service. We had a little variety of everything. From Waygu to some seafood options like shrimp, scallops and crab claws. The meats were really fresh and nicely portioned. We had some great service, they always came by to help us change out the grill and teach us a little a bit about the menu items. I say go with a nice group that can eat and enjoy some nice grilling !
