Went to them for emergency mental health care and the lady I talked to was extremely judgie and seemed to hear what she wanted to hear. NOT AT ALL WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN IN A MENTAL HEALTH FACILITY

I called Sunstone Counseling to set up a 15 minute consultation. I never got an email confirmation so I decided to call back and confirm. I left a message and no one got back to me. I then called back the day of the appointment and talked to Courtney who confirmed the time and date. I never got a call at the time of the appointment. After waiting 2O minutes, I called their office number. No one picked up and I wasn't very confident they check their messages after not returning my call once, so I decided to call Amy, a co-owner, whose number was on their website. Amy was very apologetic and said would get to the bottom of it. I then received a call almost immediately from India who explained that I was never called because I live in Maryland and the counselor was not licensed in Maryland. I was very surprised by that explanation because I clarified that when I booked the appointment since I knew their office was in Virginia. The person booking the appointment, put me on hold to double check!
This should be step 1 - determining if their therapist(s) are licensed to assist the person. Even if they had made a mistake, there's absolutely no excuse to let me take time off from my day just waiting.
However, after the mistake was made, Amy did everything in her power to fix the situation and personally connected me with a therapists that was right for me.

Used to be you could keep your phone. They make you walk without shoes on the hard floor all day. If you have dietary restrictions, don't count on the kitchen honoring them. Night staff regularly refuse to administer prescribed sleep medication

I was here about 2 years ago. And I thank god for all the nurses there. They were amazing. I can’t remember all their names but I do remember Shakira. A middle aged bald white man and a tall tan guy with long dark hair I think his name was John. I’ll never forget them. It was John’s first day and he brought me snacks which meant the absolute world to me. I wish I could give them a big thank you. They reinforced me wanting to be a Nurse. And now I’m in school to become one.

Receptionist was unorganized and didn't match me with a counselor based on my preferences. My first session with the counselor I was matched with felt cold, impersonal, and she just read off the intake form I filled out. It was clear she did ZERO prep. If you're looking sessions where you are drilled with a ton of questions, with very little to no emotional connection this might be perfect for you!

I had a bad experience with a therapist years ago and was pretty stubborn that 'therapy' just wasn't for me. Fast forward to this past year and I was done with feeling awful! I searched and searched for a therapist and was ready to give up (COVID-19 had zapped much of our finances and therapy can be very expensive).
I knew I couldn't put off getting help any longer and spoke to a co-worker who I knew was seeing a therapist. They recommended Sunstone Counseling to me and I am forever grateful they did. Vanessa Cushing at Sunstone Counseling has completely changed my life (and I don't say that lightly). Vanessa immediately told me she was willing to work with me on a sliding scale until my financial situation stabilized. She has helped me process past traumas that I never thought I would be able to speak of. She is patient, kind, professional, caring, and loving. I honestly couldn't adore her more. Finding the right therapist can be quite a daunting task. I am so lucky to have found Vanessa. I look forward to many, more years of her counseling and guidance.

This place was mostly great. I was annoyed that they changed so many of my existing medications when I was admitted. But for the most part it was a great environment. Everyone gets their own private room and bathroom. Very clean facility. Lots of activities through the day. Very upbeat therapist staff. Nurses were very caring some attending staff were so so but mostly good. Overall if you’re feeling like you’re back into a corner, this is a good place to go. They helped me a lot.

the staff was so kind to me and it was super clean, they had cleaning staff come by all hours of the day, and the therapists were amazing.

Old part of hospital. Depressing environment . Windows so dirty you cant see out of them. Incredibly hard to get updates. We checked my wife out early after a month. Dr. upset, stopped all prescriptions that night and told us we had to go to emergency next day to get meds, July 4th. He didn't even come out to discuss. Staff very understaffed. Nurses and aids very pleasant.

Would not recommend.
