Staff are professional and respectful towards all students. Classroom atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Classwork challenges students' intellectual abilities.
Best school ever! i went there for K and 1st grade, but then moved away. I really miss this school :(
Very good school but some kids that go there need more discipline
I go to this school and it bad like all these teachers are fake one day they nice and the next day they mean like come on when bec teacher get all of my nerve it just make me want to punch them like and one of my history teacher she is bad like she will do every thing to call ur parent or get sent to the dean office
This school is horrid. The teachers act like they own everyone if u send your child to the school your calling for depression 🤷🏽‍♀️This school puts kids through hell. The system of beast bucks and deductions are stupid. There no freedom 😐You even have a CERTAIN AMOUNT OF BATHROOM PASSES THATS RIDICULOUS ANYWAYS -Taylor🤷🏽‍♀️
i go to this school and i am an honor roll student but i still hate it. they have a bad uniform, weird systems like "beast bucks" even for the higher grades . they suspend students for petty reasons and all the fun activites are canceled for petty reasons like how a party was shut down because 2 kids wont stop talking. somethings gotta change or this school is gonna get closed and soon <insert 0 stars>
They are moving to Marcy and Jefferson! BEC will now be bribing incredible rigorous education to the middle of Bed-Stuy! How exciting! They are accepting 5th grade applications now!!! Call the number as they will be at 80 Underhill till end of July. What are you waiting for? Amazing athletic program too!
Berkeley Carroll has so many good points! Academics, social, and sports all EXCELLENT! Son (and parents) are 100% happy!

The music program is a national standout! Dr. Holsberg is motivating, tough and fun with his dry sense of humor the kids love!

As a parent, I like that my 6th grade son and all other 5/6th graders must study an instrument! Expanding the brain by learning music is a critical factor in brain plasticity and growth.
my daughter is doing well in school im so happy making good friends
Excellent school for both my kids. One graduated, one still attending the upper school. Been through the lower, middle and upper school programs and all are dynamic, challenging and welcoming of all students. Highly recommend.
I go to this school. Its AMAZING!!!The teachers help you out and there is free tutoring!they teach you higher level stuff so you will always get challenged. As a student in basis I am pleased with my education, welcoming and so much more.I recommend this for everyone!!!😎😎😀
I am a student who goes to this school so it be in your best interest to trust me here. This school is a school that goes beyond limits of the education they teach in public schools and enhances that and creates a brand new foundation that is worth your time. I mean seriously kids are learning algebra so fast in this school and it shows what kids are capable of. The teachers have reserved hours for students to come in and study and ask questions which really shows how strong the teacher and kid relationship is compared to others. It also holds special events that really let the kids socialize with others. But it can be very stressful for students so make sure students are mentally prepared for the long homework nights and study nights. Thus this school is a great school and pushes the boundaries of others.
Unfortunately I have to give a star in order to post my review, but this school deserves no stars! I am very disappointed with my sons experience BEC. During my tour of the school, BEC was presented as a warm loving family orientated school. As I walked through the school, it seemed like a place where my child could grow academically, and socially. I was told about the various clubs and sport and all the extracurricular actives the children can engage in.

On the first day of school the vision was shattered when my son came home to tell me school was the worst and it's prison! Everyday I asked, how was school? His response, HORRIBLE, YOU ARE SENDING ME TO A PRISON! I tried to convince him, it will get better. It's new, you will get use to it, a little discipline never hurt anyone! That was until I walked into the school one day while the kids were entering dentition and heard the teachers yelling at the children, talking to them in a disrespectful manner and with a very harsh tone. My child always complained that the teachers were one way in-front the parents and another way when parents weren't around. As much as I tried, and spoke to each teach individually about my son, and gave some suggestions on how to make his transition into the school a litter easier, as well as trying to convince him on my end, it did not work! His grades started falling behind and it was only the first quarter.

These children are penalized for everything that they do. Now every action has a reaction! There are consequences and repercussions I agree, but in the same breathe these are CHILDREN! 9 and 10 year old CHILDREN! Who so very much still need guidance! Granted BEC would like to prepare them for College, how about preparing them for HS. Teach them some social skills so they can hold a proper intelligent conversation among their peers. How are they suppose to learn to communicate effectively if they aren't allowed to speak during school? During parent teacher night, one teacher asked my son why doesn't he say he's having trouble, my response was "when is he suppose to when every time he raises his hand it's a deduction of some sort?" So please explain when and how are these kids suppose to ask for help or voice their frustrations and or concerns?

I can go on and on, but I will end by saying I'v pulled my son out of BEC and enrolled him back into the NYC public school system where most teachers and dedicated to helping children reach their goals and not dedicated to enforcing militant rules hoping the that the children preform accordingly so their numbers can be above standards and the school can receive state funding and their salaries can be paid.

I would not recommend this school to anyone parent!
I don’t like the rulesTeachers are disrespectful kids don’t get free time outside the principal claims he was keep them on a good track but they get sent to the Dean’s office for littlest things if they don’t have their shirt tucked in they get a -5 or something if they’re putting their hands on their face they get in -3 if they’re not in slant they get sent to the deeds office
Love this school for my two daughters! What an amazing place. BC encourages students to explore their interests in a warm, supportive yet rigorous environment. Fantastic teachers who really care and know their stuff. The school cares about the total student - and it shows.
One of the better independent schools found in Brooklyn. A thoughtful, progressive school with small class sizes, healthy parent-teacher communication, a culture of mindfulness with constructive learning. The Montessori method encourages children to bloom into their own independent people, BHMS is a leader in its field.
Terrible executive administration led by individuals with little to no leadership, managerial, or problem-solving skills- mostly incompetent; high staff turnover; low morale among students and staff; some great teachers most of whom receive nearly zero support from adminstration; no consistency or structure on the logistical side of things--lots of talk, little action; and the list goes on, which is too bad for the students
I attended here from 1995-1998 ugh I miss those days
HORRIBLE! No one cares if your child is bullied. Quick to say your child is the problem. Failure to children. My son has no one to turn to.
If I could give 0 stars I would. I had high hopes for my son when he first got accepted to this school. I took him out from a really great private school in another country to have him attend Brooklyn East... His first exams he did ok coming from a different school in another country. After that his grades kept dropping and he's now failing every subject. The teachers send out the kids for the smallest reason in class and suspend them for everything thing. Guess that is Brooklyn East way of having to deal with one less kids. How are they suppose to learn anything when they keep sending the kids out for something like talking?! Since the school year started his 7 grade class been through 4 ELA teachers within couple months. I've even heard from a vice principle from another charter school that Brooklyn East is really not a good school.

I as a parent don't want anyone else to go through what I'm currently dealing with so please find another charter school to send your kid. Not all charter schools are good schools. My son attended Leadership Prep from Kindergarten to 2nd grade and I must say that school is one of the best. They don't only contact you when your child do something wrong they contact you when child is doing great as well. Unlike Brooklyn East the only time I get a hold of them is when my son did something they didn't approve of.

I'm very disappointed in Brooklyn East. I wish I had known and read the reviews on this school before taking my son out of a great school to go here.
Wonderful!!!! Great teachers!! Kids love it!
Beautifully designed space. lots of light and modern touches everywhere1
Amazing experience so far for my prek child. I am happy we discovered the school. Focused on preparing the kids for tomorrow's world, as it continues to change.
I have two kids that have been at Berkeley Carroll for the last five years. The teachers and administrators have truly gotten to know each of my children and they both feel part of a community that both challenges and supports them. They are currently in the middle school and I’m constantly blown away by the sophistication of the critical thinking that they demonstrate.
I've watched in amazement as my once toddlers have become intelligent, engaged and empathic young adults at Berkeley Carroll. The teachers are outstanding mentors who give their all to these kids. BC is an extrordinary community and a first class education. --And it keeps getting better!
Needless to say, I can't send 1 kid to 2 schools at the same time to compare schools, but I can point out a few things. My younger child has been going to Berkeley Carroll for 3 years and thoroughly enjoys it. I'm deeply impressed by the teachers and administration. There is a persistent effort to improve. I'm repeatedly struck by how much better schooling and teaching is compared to when I was a kid in upstate NY (but again, comparisons are difficult and how things are now compared to 40 years ago is not especially relevant). My main criterion is that schools endow children with the capability to be who they want to be. Sounds hallmarky, but that's my best summary. BC is doing very well. I'm a student
Best school ever
Seriously
This place is awesome
The teachers really work well with the students!
My oldest son started kindergarten this year and we love it. Can't say enough great things about this school. Teachers, administration, building itself, head of school - everything is superb. Education redefined indeed! Very happy with our decision sending him to Basis and our youngest will start there as well as soon as he is old enough.
Amazing school!!! my son really excelled here. big on respect, accountability, perseverance, integrity and so much more. Preparing your child for college with individual help. An amazing community of like minded kids and instructors.
We conducted an extensive search when we were choosing a middle school for our children and we could not be more thrilled with our choice of Berkeley Carroll. From the first acceptance letter, which is personalized for each student, I could tell that this was a school that would really know my child. It is a school that creates a safe environment where students can take risks, push themselves and try out new talents. As my daughter points out, there is no one Berkeley Carroll student and rare is the student that only does one thing; she is an athlete and an artist, a scientist and a writer, an actor and a debater. After such an incredible middle school experience we didn't think twice about keeping both of our children at BC for High School. The high school is incredibly rigorous and I have heard from many BC alum that they were well prepared for college life. My daughter has had the good fortune of participating in the Science Research and Design program, and is currently working with a doctoral student from Harvard on her research. The faculty is incredible, in both the middle and upper schools. They are brilliant, dedicated and truly love teaching. They push students to delve deeper and ask more questions.
In the six years that my two children have been a part of the school, they have (combined) been to Africa and Wyoming, they have (combined) played on basketball, softball, volleyball and swim teams, they are in the orchestra, community service society and yearbook and they have only participated in a fraction of what the school offers. I cannot imagine a better education for my children.
Berkeley Carroll is an excellent all around school – the academics, arts and athletic offerings are all really strong so you don’t have to sacrifice in any area when you send your children there. My children have attended since pre-K and at that age, you don’t know what areas they will be most interested in or excel in so you want a school that is as consistently good as this one is. It's also an incredibly warm and nurturing place with a great sense of community. My children have attended for a total of 15 years and have not had a single teacher who we were not totally happy with. My oldest child is in 8th grade and we have heard only wonderful things about the high school. They have made a number of curriculum and design changes that we are very excited about, as well as having a variety of travel offerings in the upper school. The athletic center has a wonderful pool and both my kids learned to swim as part of their normal school day in Kindergarten. The school just finished renovations to two of the buildings that have beautiful new classroom and common space. All in all, a fantastic choice!
