I was going to buy something from here but then came across the golliwog stand. They have a misleading information board on the stand with a false story about the origin of golliwogs in an attempt to show that they’re not racist. They are. Golliwogs are racist, and I can’t support any business who sells them.
If you want to look for real, referenced information on them, search for ‘snopes golliwogs’ to see how false their story is.
Beautifully crafted wood products by great wood craftsmen, however the golliwog display put a sour note on my visit there. The explanation of why the golliwogs aren’t racist is the reason it is racist in the first place especially having the golliwogs displayed right in front of the indigenous artwork that the store is profiting from. Beautiful wood products but do better!

A large display of golliwogs was very off putting.. such a shame that a shop selling amazing Tasmanian art and craft also sells racism. I think this little shop needs to do some research and reconsider displaying their golliwog doll collection. If you have to have a document on display explaining why something’s not racist, it’s probably racist. Salamanca market sell some amazing wood crafts, as does the Peppercorn Gallery just down the road. Don’t support racism by shopping here.
A very cute little shop that sells handmade wood items. There's also wood puzzles which is pretty interesting!

Pretty weird experience. When looking at all this woodwork, the only thing in the whole store that is not timber related is a table full of golliwogs and a sign explaining how they're not racist. Please do some research on golliwog dolls. What a shame for the Richmond people, Palawa people and Tasmania as a whole. What a disgrace. Please take it down, It's just really mean and gross.

Gorgeous little shop full of wood creations from local wood makers. The shop lady was absolutely lovely and showed us the wooden puzzles on display. Good variety of wood pieces and definitely worth a look if you’re in the area

You will be amazed from all the art work in this store. Everything is handmade at the verity of different things in the store can make you want it all. Prices are sometimes on the higher end, but with everything being handmade it is understandable. I wanted a small souvenir from my visit to Tasmania and this store was just what I was looking for. The woman who worked at the shop was very friendly and helpful. Apparently you can also submit online orders as well. Definitely worth a visit if you are happen to be visiting in Richmond, Tasmania.
