Amazing and fresh oysters. Must try spot! They had so many varieties from Canada and beyond to try! My husband and I had the local express platter. We tried east coast, est coast and Quebec oysters all so fresh and delicious

We were looking for Chionoecetes unfortunately they were all sold out cause of the long weekend. In the end we grabbed some other crabs and clams. But stuffs there were very friendly and nice to help and all we bought were fresh and good quality. :)

We're new to enjoying oysters so we were excited to try a variety of them. We went with the explorer box which came with 6 from the east coast, 3 from the west coast, and 3 from the U.S (for a dozen total). They were delicious though we don't have refined enough palates to really capture the subtle differences. All in all, fantastic and would definitely come again!

Great market in Montreal. Lots of options in Summer and Winter. The cheese stall in the North end is great for variety of cheese.

We bought the first time yesterday to try their oysters, it was the best oysters we ever had. No kidding. We had some oysters before but this taste none like those that we had. If theres a more superior word for excellent, then thats the word.

We came back today to buy 2 more dozen to take on the trip home back to Ontario. They packed it with ice and the Oysters were still excellent when we arrived. 10/10 would recommend.

We heard Montreal was famous for its oysters so we tried them in a few different places throughout the week, these were by far the best. We were there in the morning when they opened and it was incredibly fresh. Amazing quality!!

2023 Update: my recent visit on a Saturday morning showcased a couple of logistic issues when the place is busy, whole fish are now back to self-serve but you need to wait for a staff to weigh the fish and all staff is busy at the oyster station or the fillet fish section or serving snow crabs which are not self serve.
Meaning that when you buy a whole fish you end up waiting a very long time for someone to weight your fish (if someone ever comes, as waiting customers appear to be invisible). If you need the help of someone anyways, in order to minimise wait time and optimise the logistics, the whole fish section should not be self-serve and there should be an attendant there to help.

I have been coming to la mer for years and it is a great place with lots of fish seafood and oyster varieties. I have also recently placed a couple of online order and I have to say the careful attention to deliver exactly what I needed, impeccable packaging (including individually sous vide for whole fish), and temperature maintenance efforts was excellent and made me order online again. Delivery fee is also quite reasonable.

Lots of selection and variety.
Don't zero waste here, they don't get the concept, I've tried twice and both times a fail since they still used the plastic bag to pick the item then they threw the bag out and used my container to put it in which means a bag was still used and thrown and I now have to wash a container (meaning additional soap and water is used). Also the guy didn't tare my container and I asked and it was a 3$ difference..

Otherwise, the only place I've managed to find gravlax, ready made! Not cheap though, fine if you're 1 person or in a rush and don't want to make it yourself. Lots of smoked salmon options. Also sushi grade salmon.

Staff is rude and confrontational for no good reason. I will not be spending my hard earned money here.

Edit: Not only are they rude but apparently flat out liars as well. Not a stretch to think their staff is reflective of their owner. Rather than take responsibility for his employees, it appears he is willing to go as far as create scenarios to justify their behaviour and save face. Good riddance

Amazing selection of oysters at an affordable price. The staff were really friendly and would explain the different kinds to you. Most menu items offer an assortment of different oysters so you can try a few to see what you like. You can also buy some to take home at a slightly lower price. Can’t wait to try more next time!

The best smoked Salmon in Montreal, we tasted a few styles and they were all excellent top quality. Great place, very clean and professional, they are experts of the fish world.

Clustered lobster aquarium. I had snow crab. Sadly; there was nothing in the shell. No meat in the legs and no meat in the claw. 21.98$ plus taxes for barely nothing. The price per kg was 85.87$.

Never again.

It’s not a mistake. The crab came from La poisonnerie du marcher Atwater. Packed on May 2nd 2021.

3rd modification: After speaking to the manager, I’m raising my rating from 1 star to 3 stars. The crab wasn’t good but I believe in the manager’s good intentions after we spoke.

A wide selection of fresh and good quality seafood. Hard-to-find products like Quebec urchins, bottarga, frog legs, etc. They have a good online shop where you can buy and select time when you will pick up your order. They will prepare your order one day in advance so they assure that the products are fresh. They offer also service of oyster opening, urchin opening, etc.

This is the go to place for the freshest and best quality sea food market in Montreal. Seasonal and ocean wise products, always very helpful, and trusting also very beautiful to see and choose. Every year I buy snow crab to make some delicious meal for my love ones. Also the fish here is always better than any other supermarket in town.

Very decent fish market, lots of choices, great service. It's not the cheapest but you get your money's worth in quality, choice and service.

An amazing place to buy fish.
That place is clean and well maintained and does not smell of the sea water or fish.
The catch is fresh and we haven't been to another place since we have bought fish from here. We love the shrimps, seerfish (kingfish) and sword fish.
Have seen some lovely lobsters too but haven't bought any yet. The smoked salmon is just too good and a must try if you visit here.
Some may find the prices a bit high but for the taste and quality of the fish, we find it ok to pay for it.
The staff is friendly, patient and attends to you and your needs effectively.
Very satisfied by our experience here.
