Fantastic museum. Parking spots directly in front of museum are extremely limited, please be prepared for a small, flat walk in order to access.
The museum is beautiful. 4 stories, elevators included for persons of limited mobility. The gift shop is located on the main floor, directly after entering. Cost was $24 per adult, tickets available at the front desk, payable by cash or card.
Fossils, minerals, live exhibits, theater, etc. This museum has it all. Plenty of places to rest and take in the wonder. There is a small indoor play place for the smallest children. Bathrooms are clean, spacious, and well-maintained on multiple floors.
Museum is kept cool, a light sweater recommended.

Very cool Museum! First time seeing a Mammoth and Saber-tooth Tiger Skelton. Great family outing or day date.
While I am a huge fan of science and greatly enjoy interactive displays, this museum is definitely geared toward children. It's fun to walk through when it isn't busy, but don't expect to spend more than about 30 minutes here without some kids in tow.
That being said, this is a fantastic museum! Making science fun and available to children is something I will always applaud and support!

Great place to bring younger kids to check out and learn about the world around us through science and creative visuals. Lots of interactive exhibits that encourage you to engage with them and plenty of things to see. Remember there is a free day each month too if you can take advantage of that. It's a medium sized exhibit but there is plenty to explore for half a day. There's also a workshop area to make sculptures out of used e-waste. Staff on hand are very friendly and helpful with any questions you may have about how to use and start in the workshop.
The best part was the imax dome theater. This is one of the least stimulating science museums I’ve visited. I love science museums generally but, this one was a bit lame. They have a survival feature now that has a bunch of plywood board displays of ways to survive dangerous situations… it takes up space but, not very engaging content. Multiple sections of the museum were closed.
This place is found amusing for any age, from young kids to senior. You wouldn’t get bored because the combination of Living Lab with a bunch of living creatures, the facts of dinosaurs, and the history of this beautiful city.
If you’re a resident, pls consider the annual member for the entire park, it’s gonna be very useful for indoor activities during hot summer (when you’re taking a break from the crowds of beaches), or any season … worth the money!

Neat place. Many hands on activities for kids. Suited for younger kids- 12 and under I'd say. The shows are great. Do not do the VR. It is 100% not worth it. Spend the day around the museum and go to some others or walk around and view all if balboa park. Nice area
During my recent visit to San Diego for the Esri User Conference, I had the pleasure of attending a social event at Balboa Park, and it included a visit to the San Diego Natural History Museum.
The museum's location within the beautiful Balboa Park was a treat in itself. The stunning architecture of the building blends beautifully with the surrounding Balboa Park, creating a harmonious and inviting atmosphere. As soon as I entered the museum, I was immediately drawn to the fascinating exhibits that showcased the region's diverse natural wonders.. Moreover, the dinosaur exhibit was a particular highlight for me. The life-sized replicas and detailed explanations gave me a newfound appreciation for the prehistoric creatures that once roamed the earth. The staff at the museum were courteous and enthusiastic, adding to the overall positive experience.
All in all, it was wonderful experience.

This museum is large (4 stories) so I highly recommend to arrive early so you can enjoy all the nice halls in it. Despite it is mainly designed for kids I had a great time as an adult. There are many interactive material.
Interesting Science Center, but many exhibits are failing, and not 20% as impressive as San Francisco's Exploratorium.
The building workshop was interesting though. Highly recommended for kids and adults.
And there's a relatively weird area related to crisis management. Kids can also play around some of the exhibits here.
Imax was good also. Serrengeti is great, watched it in New York before. I watched Ice Caves and it was great too.
And look around the place. There's a lot of nice photo points.

It has activity for all ages - kid city for toddlers 2-5years old, balls swim pool for all ages, 3-D virtual reality show for another $10 is not worthy. It has different science concept and not only limited to solar system, typhoon or so. I used my go city pass for admission
Would absolutely recommend coming here if you are in Balboa park. Tickets are pretty cheap, and there's several floors of things to look at. There's a ton of really cool artifacts, fossils, taxiderm, and life-size replicas of all sorts of animals. One of the coolest exhibits was this section with preserved jars of animals, like two headed snakes, big toads, and other weird animals. The place is also not crowded. Probably one of the best museums here, apart from the air and space museum and the model railroad museum.
This museum was really cool. They had lots of exhibits, and it was a great experience. There were lots of signs, which was helpful, since there was lots of stuff everywhere. The only thing was that the food options were missleading. There is supposedly a cafe, but it really only had a couple small things all of them snacks.
We did the San diego city card. Highly recommended to visit so many place as you visit San Diego. This is one of five museums the wife and I visited on this day. Cool place to take the kids.
Our visit to this museum was such a great experience! As science enthusiasts, we were thrilled with the exhibits and interactive displays that really made us appreciate the wonders of science. It's definitely a great place for families with kids, as there are so many fascinating things to explore and learn. As a science teacher myself, I can definitely see the value in bringing my students here for a fun and educational field trip. We also visited the nearby Museum of Arts, which was equally impressive. San Diego really has a lot to offer and we can't wait to come back and explore more of this amazing city!"

Is nothing but interactive science stations, an expensive IMAX theater, and a really cool shop with lots of amazing science toys.
Each exhibit has a purpose to teach and experience something. We loved the exhibits that taught about waves, electricity and light and sound. The shocker is the best- provides a static charge. The light exhibits were also awesome.
Truly this shop is a toy science HQ. Their prices are reasonable compared to Amazon -actually priced a bit lower. Some really high quality science gadgets/toys, at fair prices (not cheap, just fair).
My kids really loved it- those in age range 6-13 more than the older kids.
