Amazing place, traditional eland outside the most busy area, it’s perfect for a meal and relax. I couldn’t take picture of the dish, they look so good and comfy we had to eat them. The price are super reasonable, the portions are right and servici is as usual in Japan, kind and attentive.
Only cash payments!
Great atmosphere and amazing food.

While all other restaurants are closed nearby, this warm restaurant is opened on Sunday. The food is delicious, no matter for soba, udon, or rice with unagi. Cash only.

Great ambience to the place. Try get a seat in the back room if possible. There is a small garden which you can look out to as you eat. The staff were so kind and the food was delicious.

We had the soba noodles and tempura here, they were ok. The entire experience, including the food, felt completely authentic, but it wasn’t really to my taste.

Located near the entrance of Fushimi Inari, Kanoko is an atmospheric restaurant with a traditional atmosphere offering a menu of udon and soba noodle dishes. First, we were started with an appetizer of three daily dishes: clams, raw salmon, and mixed persimmon and greens in a creamy dressing. The Nabeyaki set featured a clay pot of udon, shrimp tempura, egg, chicken, fish paste, shiitake mushroom, and roasted rice cake, all in a hot broth. The Sukinabe featured a pot of udon with tender, fatty slices of beef, egg, tofu, fishcake, and vegetables in a deeply savory, slightly sweet broth, served in an iron pot heated by a flame underneath. But my personal favorite item was the Tenzaru, a set which came with both buckwheat and matcha soba noodles served cold with a savory dipping sauce on the side, mixed with green onions and wasabi. The noodles had a pleasantly firm texture and went nicely with the plate of mixed tempura on the side, which included shrimp, fish, sweet potato, enoki mushrooms, shiso, and seaweed, along with grated radish and a light tempura sauce for dipping. The tempura had a nice crunchy texture without being greasy or heavy. Lastly, the set came with two pieces of Puchi-Inari, or seasoned rice wrapped with fried tofu skin (a fitting dish given the restaurant’s location). Overall, the food here was delicious and beautifully presented, and the traditional setting (which included tatami seating and an outdoor Japanese garden) was pleasant.

Very busy restaurant near Bamboo Forest. We had a short wait and we had a set menu with 12 different items, nice variety of seafood, meat and vegetables dishes. Everything is very tasty with unique local flavors. We had very enjoyable lunch with a nice view on the 2nd floor. 👍👍

Good meal stop after doing the Fushimi inari walk. Had the 3pcs special unagi don buri, 7 pc sushi maki, roasted quail, and tuna sashimi. They have draft beer and sake for alcoholic beverages. Satisfying dining experience.

There was not a long wait for 5 on Sunday at 1pm after exploring Fushimi Inari and Mt Inari.

The shop is manned by hard-working Japanese ladies and they provide English menus.

On the inside is a tatami section, where you will remove your shoes to sit on cushions. The Kitsune Udon set comes with 2 Inari sushi: both of which was delicious and highly recommended.

Simple dining the Soba set was fulfilling.
The Cold Soba set & Hot soba set comes with tempura prawn and pumpkin.
The soba was nicely cooked not too soft just tender even for hot soup.

Cute mom and pops soba/udon place near fushimi inari. Their cold udon and cold soba can be made vegan. I got the vegan soba and the sauce was surprisingly delicious. They also have inari but unsure if it's vegan.

Chance upon this place while searching for lunch, saw that they have this set meal, which looks really pretty.
Autumn menu at the moment!
For 2500 yen, it's really very worth it! We avoided lunch timing, so the queue was really fast.
The food was really good as well, love the Japanese food presentation!

⭐️Inari set (inari udon with inari sushi)
nothing too special, but udon is quite chewy, can imagine how nice to have this hot udon in a cold winter day;
inari sushi with seasoning in the rice, the sesame inside kinda neutralises the sweetness of the bean curd;
maybe slightly overpriced overall but taken into account the location, it’s alright
7/10

⭐️tempura udon
only got one piece of shrimp tempura and two pieces of seaweed tempura, was expecting a bit more; but the shrimp was fresh; and again the udon is nice and chewy
7/10

Simple udon soup noodles and inari sushi! Happy to try the original inari sushi which is different from the inari sushi in Singapore! The inari beacurd skin is the authentic Japanese inari and I believe this is the birth place of the inari sushi! There is sesame and anchovies in the sushi rice! Tables are a bit small and no spoon was given.

In a bustling tourist hotspot, you'll find a charming, small, and traditional restaurant managed by a delightful Japanese couple. Their service is remarkably attentive, and the quality of the meals is outstanding, especially considering the reasonable prices. I strongly recommend paying them a visit if you're in the vicinity, and don't miss out on their delectable curry udon!

Food is not sublime but very solid nonetheless. Serving portions are generous and the price is affordable, especially considering it comes with a great view of the river on tatami mats.

The food is super tasty and menu includes dishes typical for Kyoto like yudofu which enrich the experience. Service is excellent, especially waitresses who are very pleasant. The atmosphere is cozy and you can feel like home (if you have table with short legs ;). For tall people, please mind the bar in the middle of the toilet

Swing by before I kick off my day to the shrines, homely menu served with a variety of Soba & Udon that you can also pair it as a set with Inari sushi. Zaru Udon was light on the palette, and the Inari sushi were pleasantly sweet (with sesame seeds mixed with the rice). Prices weren’t too overboard, got the set at 1,000 yen, do note it’s cash payment only.
Very nice restaurant outside fushiminari shrine, food was delicious and very friendly staff, there is a great view of the pond

Highly recommend this place. Good noodle, food broth, and herring! Another good news is that the wait time is way shorter than what the ticket tells you so don’t get scared away by the crowd. When you go on, follow the instruction on the table to get a number.
We went around 1 pm, it only took us less than 15 mins wait to get to our table while the ticket says 35 mins wait. The business does a great job pacing customers and the flow.

Situated right near the Togetsukyo Bridge, on the 2/F of the restaurant, you will enjoy the best window view of any restaurant nearby in Arashiyama. It is on my bucket list for my family can enjoy the view and the food after the stroll along the beautiful Katsura River. Price reasonable and staff are helpful.
Adorable, cute ambience, super service!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this café/restaurant and I must say, it was a delightful experience. From the moment I stepped inside, the attentive staff provided excellent service.

One thing that stood out to me was the fact that they had a menu in English, which made it incredibly convenient for international visitors like myself. After a long walk exploring the beautiful Bamboo Groove, I was ready to refuel and this place was just what I needed.

The food was simply delicious. They offered a wide variety of options, from traditional dishes to burgers and steaks. I opted for the Beef Steak@ and I was blown away by the flavors and presentation. The portions were generous, and the prices were affordable, offering great value for money.

Despite the language barrier with the waitress, ordering was a breeze. The staff made a conscious effort to ensure smooth communication, allowing me to easily convey my preferences.

Overall, I highly recommend this café/restaurant. It ticked all the boxes for me – delicious food, good service, English menu, and reasonable prices. Whether you're in the mood for traditional cuisine or something more familiar like burgers or steaks, this place has got you covered. It's the perfect spot to relax and recharge after a long day of exploration at the Bamboo Groove.

They were not very friendly to tourists as what other reviews mentioned. Bought a large senbei next door and they told me I couldn’t eat it at the restaurant upon seeing me holding the piping hot senbei.
The saving grace was the food and aircon. We were hot and tired from climbing the Inari Mountain. So was very hungry and hot from the summer sun. Prices are reasonable too.
Traditional seating style upstairs, sat on floor with tatami mats.

Hidden gem in the area that my husband and I found. Delicious food, with an option for vegetarians. Must try!
A very unpretentious spot for a very delicious and homy udon! I ordered nabeyaki udon. The place is very rustic, and I was served by a grandmother who is very gentle and kind. She joked with my son. The dashi in nabeyaki is amazing! Ordered a riceball as well which are great!

Came to this restaurant specially after reading good reviews and we were not disappointed. It's just around the corner from Nison-ji Temple. Welcoming look from outside. Inside, there were normal tables for four. We had the privilege of sitting at the tatami table for four, although we had numb legs at the end of the meal. Hahaha! We tried the conger eel, tempura vegetables and buta don with cold udon. They were really crispy, tasty and of good price. Ended the meal with ice coffee. It had strong roast and refreshing on a hot day. It was quite full but there was no queue as some people just left when there were no tables available. Service was efficient but you would need to wait for the food to be prepared.

I highly recommend this restaurant if you walk up to this point from the Bamboo Forest.

We stumbled upon this family-owned restaurant after visiting the famous Fushimi inari shrine. the restaurant is cosy with tatami-style dining. We ordered the nishin set, which comes with heartwarming herring fish udon and inari sushi. The oyako (combination rice with chicken and egg) was alright, it was a bit mushy for our liking. Overall, it was a nice experience.

Im not a big fan of udon myself, so this review may be alittle tad biased. But objectively speaking, it is good udon and the soup is flavourful in a simple way.

But what topped my expectation is the oyakodon. For the price, you would not have expected that this is the show-stealer. Definitely one of the better oyakodons out there.

You can skip the chinese soba. Just… Skip it.

Oyakodon - 5/5
Udon 4/5
Soba 2/5

An absolutely fantastic experience close to Fushimi-inari. A small, cozy little establishment located just off the main shopping road.

You can expect fast service, friendly hospitality, rich flavors, sizable portions, and low prices. The proprietress is very kind, and there are even foreign language menus available if needed.

Although it looks quite simple from the outside the food is great, the eel is fresh and the soba has an amazing taste, broth is just perfect.

The cherry on top: they take credit card!
The kitsune udon I had was very delicious, with the broth very savoury and a slight bit sweet. The udon noodles were cooked to perfection and were so soft I could slurp them up. The beancurd carried the taste of the broth while adding a bit more sweetness to the taste. The elderly couple were very friendly and the service was fast.

Decent food at affordable price. Always easy to find a table and can stay away from the crowd at peak hours. I am concerned with the deteriorating quality of food though.
Very nice cafe shop. I was charmed by the interior contemporary design. Sadly this place is very expensive compared to similar coffee & tea shops. Sadly the Bubble tea was not great... basically you pay for the design, confort and standing of the place... that’s all.

I should have read the reviews before entering the restaurant. This is the worst restaurant I’ve ever had in Japan since my previous 10 visits.
The portion of the grilled eel rice, unlike the food model at the front, is ridiculously small and tasted average. The udon noodle is also overcooked. This set costed 2200 yen.
Service was bad too, the waiter didn’t ask for my consent before sharing my table with other group of customers, while there were other tables available.
Definitely not worth the price.
Delicious Coffee and outstanding Homemade Lemonade. Prices are higher, though completely rectified by location and ambience. Nice mix of Modern and traditional elements in the ex- and interior. I read some of the negative Comments but I can't comprehend them for it is a Supreme establishment and I can wholeheartedly recommend a stay here. Smoking corner outside.

The price is a bit on the high end. However, the service is friendly and the atmosphere is lovely. Sweetened Matcha tea is unexpectedly delicious. A nice place to take a break after climbing the Inari Shrine.
Chanced upon this cafe on our walk back from the Inari Shrine and was pleasantly surprised with the relaxing and calming ambience! They serve a small assortment of pastries and desserts on the menu as well as coffee and tea lattes :)

We went up to the second level and sat by the window and enjoyed it very much. The matcha latte is great with just the right sweetness (I usually drink black coffee)

They also have a hojicha latte so choose your favourite, both at 500 yen and additional 200 yen for bobba pearls :)

They serve a Kyoto special "Ice Pops" but we didn't get it because we weren't up to it

It's great for you to rest up after climbing the Inari Shrine!

They have outdoor seating for smoking as well ^~^

Set menu is overpriced. 2,100 ¥ for 1 fried soy bean on top udon and 1 piece of eel fish on rice but the taste is normal. The service is not good. So sad.

Went here before seeing the reviews. Service was prompt and friendly, although I can imagine in peak season when it's crowded the service might suffer a bit. Food was average, tasty but small and definitely very overpriced. I had three small pieces of chicken in my chicken dish. Even in this (very touristy) area there are better places to go.

We had the Udon, Soba, and Oyako Don. All of the items were exceptional. The noodles are handmade in front of the store and you can see the noodle maker through the glass panel.
The service was fast and we felt very welcome as foreigners. The staff are able to speak simple English.

Stopped for a quick lunch. Served pretty good decent udon and soba sets.
