Excellent friendly service.

The haggis was great but I wish there was 3X as much –very small serving for offal which is regarded as a cheap cut. Not sure how you’d share this with friends.

Hake was nice but not unforgettable.

My mum makes a killer sticky date pudding and sadly Howies didn’t compare. They went for a sort of thin, fruity caramel where I would normally expect a rich butterscotch caramel. May have been better if there was twice as much of it.

All of this said the food came out at lightning pace, and the service was some of the best I’ve experienced in a long time.

I got the early dinner special and it ended up being well worth the money.

While visiting Edinburgh we got here twice, one for lunch and the other for dinner.
Both times were exceptional.
Good mood in the restaurant and food was super tasty and well made.
They have a menu for lunch, which is very convenient.
If I have to add a bad point I would go for tiny tables and small toilet.
Nice food, great location, very busy though! The service was so fast but you have limited seating time like us that were given 30 minutes only to eat 😅 so keep that in mind when coming to this restaurant. Overall okay, not the best in the city but good for a one time visit in Edinburgh.

This is a gem on Victoria Street. The service was fast, friendly and very helpful. The traditional haggis is a great starter and we paired it with the Glengoyne 10 YO which was amazing. The Scottish Roast Lamb rump and catch of the day (Salmon for us) were delicious. The banoffee pie was cool and sweet with a great banana tone. The cocktails just kept being amazing from the Matcha Margarita to Botanical Breeze to Raspberry Sour to Summer Spritz - all spectacular!

The most memorable & delicious meal I have had in a while to be very honest, and everything from the staff to the interior was too notch. The food was next level compared to other places I’ve eaten in the city & I believe I found a true gem. We ordered the smoked salmon starter, grilled salmon (photos attached) & let’s not forget the star that was the miso grilled sweet potato (I ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture). Everything was so fresh and you can really tell whoever runs this kitchen is passionate and a culinary artist. Thank you to all the team, will definitely be back!
This place has a well-deserved high rating. When we came the first day we arrived in Edinburgh, it was fully booked, so we made sure to book our last dinner before leaving. We ordered the catch of the day, which happens to be salmon. It was absolutely delicious. Really tasty, loved it. Very attentive staff too which I appreciated. If your are visiting Scotland for the first time, order the baggies! It was the best on I tried, I totally missed it while ordering so I got it as a dessert instead 😂 Very tasty, love it.

Haggis is a good try for me, matcha margarita as well. Casserole is just a casserole, and I think salmon is too dry to serve. The dining experience was not perfect since I felt to be rushed by waitress. She probably too tired to work on the day we visited, because I felt welcomed by the rest of the staffs.

We were visiting Edinburgh from the USA for our 11th wedding anniversary and made reservations at Howie's based on recommendation from a local. We were not disappointed! The food was excellent and delivered extremely fast for a sit down restaurant! My wife had the casserole of the day (beef) and I had the catch of the day (Scottish Salmon). The two course meal was very affordable and dessert was delicious! The ice cream drowned in espresso was amazing with very high quality espresso. We definitely recommend!

Very kind staff. We were with a large group and they were understaffed. The lady who served us apologized several times because it took a long time, even when we said that we had no problem with it. The wait was well worth it, the food was fantastic!

Really enjoyed the food! I could eat the avocado toast every day. Loved that it was nutritious and at a good price as well. Only downside was that the restaurant was quite cold; my wife ordered what turned out to be a colder meal, and she was uncomfortable by the end. Would have been nice with some heat on.

The food and drinks were delicious and the staff was really friendly. I went there on a Tuesday morning so its was still quite slow and I had no problem being seated right away and I also did get the my food really fast.
Unfortunately, they did not have bananas for the pancakes that I originally ordered but they were really sorry about it and gave me some other options. The cook also added some extras to mine as an apology.

Totally recommend going there!
we went here for a late brunch. the service was very kind, we got our food fast and it was delicious. a bit pricy i’d say, but for a place in Edinburgh totally normal. i really recommend coming here for a meal!
Although the staff was friendly, the service was incredibly slow. We had a reservation and still had to wait for more than 10 minutes to get seated, and then waited around 50 minutes to get our food. The food was tasty, but the poached egg was completely overcooked.

Excellent food, highly recommended. The beef stew was especially good, the beef was tender and just melted in your mouth! However the service was a bit patchy. Ended up having 3 different servers, and while we were approached several times in quick succession at the start to take our order, later we were basically ignored, so it took a while to order dessert, and get the bill. Bar staff were also slow with our drinks, and one drink we ordered never arrived (but wasn't charged, so we think the server forgot to pass the order on).

Fantastic lunch had here to close off my Fringe 2023 visit. Had a number of the recommended dishes (Cullen Skink, Shepherds Pie etc) and all were delicious. Great lunchtime 3 course deal meant that it was incredibly great value also. Highly recommended.

Underwhelming experience if I’m honest. The food was okay, nothing special. My partner had the salmon and mentioned it wasn’t anything to stand out against other restaurants. The fries were fresh and well made, best part of the meal for some reason, every single table had a complementary bread starter irrespective of what they ordered and ours didn’t. Calamari was good but paired with sauce that just didn’t fit.

As usual, what irritates me is when restaurants chuck in an assumed tip and whilst mentioning its discretionary on the bill don’t even ask if we would like to tip. Tips are earned for exemplary service and not matter of fact additions as a give in.Poor ethic and needs changing.

Lovely meal here during the fringe. Brilliant service from all staff who were super helpful and friendly, working very hard to provide exceptional service. Eating outside was lovely. The hot meze was delicious and very filling. Highly recommend.
If you want a great Halal meal when visiting Edinburgh, then this place is a must visit.

I had the Chicken Biriyani (pictured), which, unlike traditional biriyani, was cubes of perfectly marinated and chargrilled chicken, with biriyani rice, grilled vegetables and a side dish of okra.

The portion size was generous and reasonable value for money. The waitresses who served us were friendly and courteous and we didn't have to wait too long for the food to be cooked.

I will definitely go again on my next visit to the city.

Gorgeous wee place on Rose Street, perfect outdoor dining, feels like in Roma.
The left toilet cabin is a tad tricky due to size but except that absolutely gorgeous food , quick service and lovely music.

Best BBQ, great place.
All of us enjoy a lot. We asked them to make special Big platter and they made as we wanted. Very traditional way made for us. Though it was very busy but they done very well.
We will be definitely back again for next party.

It was a fantastic experience of Middle Eastern food. Food was awesome. Compare other Restaurants in Edinburgh price is very reasonable and portions are enough.
Waiter and waitress are very very attentive, also chef came to check us.
Overall we enjoyed a lot.

Great food presentation, however the pancakes were a tad bit dry. Coffees are double shots, which was a bit bitter for my taste. But that’s just my bad for not noticing before I ordered. Waitress said you can ask to have a single shot if you prefer it.
First time in Edinburgh... so many restaurants in the area. Walked by this place and decided to try it... and it was very good. Tried Haggis for the first time and it was delicious... also had the chowder and finished up the meal with a cheese plate.

This is such a nice place. The ambiance is very nice, beautiful classic interior. The staff is very friendly with a great sense of humour. Do make reservations. Food is very very tasty, soup is wonderful, very nice local beer, reasonably prices 3 course lunch at 21£ but the most delicious was the sticky toffee pudding. Highly recommended.

We had lunch here and absolutely enjoyed the food. The food is authentically Mediterranean. We particularly loved the Hummus and Pita bread, calamari and the falafel. We loved it so much that we made a reservation for dinner as well. The service is quick, food is served nice and hot and they have a short but amazing dessert selection. You should definitely try this place on your next visit to Edinburgh!

Was lucky to book on the same day for the second seating at 2:30pm however we were 10min late due to traffic from old town. The staff was able to accommodate us despite the kitchen closing close to 3pm. Make sure to be on time or call when you’ll be late for the booking.
The food was great! Very tasty! We ordered the rib eye with frites with the bleu cheese sauce, the cod fish with mashed potatoes, calamari, banoffee pie, and the strawberries with vanilla ice cream. The fries was incredibly crispy, the steak was perfectly cooked. Our server, Sue, was very gracious. She provided all the details of the food choices, and was very attentive to our needs. Will go back to Howie’s on my next trip to Edinburgh.

Wonderful place for scottish and fresh dishes. We ordered the 3 course lunch meal and shared some foccacia bread. Starter was the classic Haggis and it was savory and delicious. We both had the pan seared salmon for main course and were not disappointed!

We ordered the chicken gyro and tagine. Both were out of this world!! It is the cutest little restaurant, and all the food is authentic. There are tons of options if you have allergies too, and it does not sacrifice any flavor or meal options. This has been amazing on this trip. I wish the US could be more allergy friendly, like the restaurants in the UK are. The staff was so friendly and kind. I'll definitely come back the next time I visit Edinburgh!

We had more people than we had booked for in our party and were very quickly accommodated. Beautiful food. Not the hottest, but we were a large group. Very busy and, therefore, noisy, had to shout to be heard across the table. Perfect fast service, however, and very reasonably priced, taking the current climate into consideration. Would definitely go here again.

Absolutely fantastic! Been there for lunch best option to take the 2 or 3 courses. Food was really tasty. Service was fantastic, Lisa our hostes was top notch! Beyond friendly, and always ahead of our needs, checking constantly if everything was alright. The rest of the staff also were very very friendly and happy! The overall was a fine dinning type of experience for a portion of the price! It was a highlight of my trip.

”Fine dining for affordable Prices“ we had a 2 and 3 course lunch that was just around 20£ each. The food is very delicious and well made. Besides that, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, and we felt very welcome. Our hostess Lisa was super friendly, came over every course to ask if everything is alright, but she was also very observant and quick thinking. When I spontaneously started to share my dessert with my partner, she read our minds and came over with a second spoon. That’s what I call a top notch service. Although the dishes were served by different waiters, they alway knew without asking which dish me or my partner would get. That was not only very convenient but also made us feel like ”home“. Best dining experience we had in our vacation. It really made our day.

I was definitely excited to try this place as I have been waiting some middle eastern food for a while. Coming from the Middle East, I know exactly how the food should be made. The restaurant is nice and cozy but the only thing I would change about the interior is to remove the string lights hung on the inside of the entrance, and replace them with something matching the rest of the vibe of the restaurant, but I was here for the food, so moving onto the important part. I started with the hummus and meat, which was good, but definitely not authentic flavors. Next was the cheese borek, which was very disappointing as it was just a basic cheese spring roll with not enough filling, so it felt like a frozen spring roll I would’ve gotten from the supermarket, and it didn’t have the oil properly drained off after frying. I also had the falafel, which were actually delicious and spot on. The bread served with the sides was also excellent! I could have eaten 10 of those breads and been satisfied. The garlic and chilli sauces given on the sides definitely were not matching the style of the food in the restaurant, but more of dominos style sauces. The authentic middle eastern sauces are very easy to make so I would definitely recommend to implement this.
For the main course, I had the mixed grill. The meat was definitely delicious and very properly cooked! Definitely the best choice to make, just can’t go wrong with bbq. The sides of the dish included rice and I think some eggplant dish. The rice felt a bit too wet and the grains weren’t as separate as they ideally should be, and the eggplant dish didn’t have flavors from rojava or the Middle East, more of south East Asian flavors. I also had the fattoush salad, which was a decent salad, but it is not how fattoush should be made. My overall review on this place is that it is a good restaurant, but seeing the chefs and workers, I understand why it is not really authentic. It’s more of middle eastern food with southeast Asian chefs adding their own twist.
If you're looking for an exceptional meze experience, look no further than this restaurant! The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the menu is packed with a range of mouthwatering dishes. From the creamy hummus to the tangy tzatziki, every meze plate we tried was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly executed. I would highly recommend to anyone who loves Mediterranean cuisine.

Foods are fresh and tasty. Came in good portions and fair price. Service also great.

Kalamari is a must! So good.
Absolutely outstanding service! Friendly with big smiles, going above and beyond for customer satisfaction.
Fabulous food! Booking table highly recommended as place gets very busy especially at weekend breakfast time.
I highly recommend this place, frankly the staff is a star 🌟 very polite and prompt to serve your orders, the decoration is a plus.
I had a breakfast there with my husband and I ordered a veggie breakfast and the presentation was stunning, apart of this they have a selection of healthy juices such as The Tahiti that I love it with spinach, mango and pineapple I think , but definitely delicious.
So it’s worth it, the best place to have a meal or so in Edinburgh for a decent price.
