My mother is a resident on the Serenity Unit. She has dementia and always is treated with dignity and respect by every member of the staff. We are kept informed by the outstanding nursing team about their mother’s condition consistently.
The CEO has zoom meetings on a weekly basis to update us on any new information. The atmosphere is friendly and helpful. There is not a department in this facility that is not there to make the veterans lives better and to show them how much they are appreciated for their service to our country.
I hear people say this place is so good , sorry to say I don’t feel that way . My father was there for about a year . I can’t believe how quickly his health declined in there care . My father nvr sat still , he would always go for a walk to pass time . There he was seen as a risk for falling so they stuck him in a mobile bed chair as much as possible so they didn’t have to watch over him as he walked around. My 2nd issue was eating , he always had a good appetite, once again they felt feeding him food not put through a blender was to risky. When he came home for Thanksgiving he ate like a champ , eating everything, just cut into small pieces. Between severe weight loss and zero exercise, I feel that was what lead to my fathers quick decline and passing ! When these vets join the forces, RISK just doesn’t seem to be a great concern. But when it comes to there care ltr RISK seems to be the main concern. Maybe it’s the world we live in , every lawyer looking for there next free meal along with the countless people who can’t be held accountable for there own decisions. All I know I would have rather see my dad pass from a fall then seeing him dwindle down to nothing !!!
Denied my father entrance because he has dementia and they say he has a behavioral problem. Well I guess the rocket scientist in charge doesn't know that dementia is a behavioral problem.I have presently called every congressman and veterans association I know I am appealing the process but I feel as if I'm wasting my time they don't give a s*** about the veterans. Also they have no compassion towards the family
We needed a smaller living facility for my Mom. We searched for that one special home, When we entered the house it felt like we were home.
We would like to give thanks to all at Foxtrail staff in Paramus, the staff
was extremely welcoming to my Mom and our small family. When talking to Sherret and Katheryn it was like I knew them for years.
Thank you for giving our Mom dignity in her last hours.

Thank you once again

I am somewhat of a daily visitor to the New Jersey Veterans Home in Paramus, as my uncle is a resident. In my opinion it is sad how our veterans are being cared for. The facility is very outdated, furniture is all old and worn, and the bedrooms are like hospital rooms from the 60’s. The resident bathrooms are horrible (4 residents share one bathroom). The facility is also very understaffed, leaving residents to be neglected. In addition, almost every family member I have talked to said their loved one was walking prior to their arrival at this nursing home. Due to the staffing issue, residents are forced to stay in wheelchairs and not allowed to walk. Physical therapy is a joke as well. Most of the staff members do not speak good English and I have also caught several of them in lies (saying my loved one went to physical therapy, when in reality they didn’t). Also, beware, if your loved one gives staff a difficult time, they will drug them. Moving into a facility is a big adjustment to these men and women. They need time to adjust and require care, attention, and positive reinforcement. Not to have drugs shoved down their throats when they do not conform within a week. This facility needs major updates, a staffing overhaul, and additional staffing. Until then, avoid at all costs!
Not happy with this home to say the least. Mom was there only 7 months until her death. The place stinks of urine. It takes 20-30 minutes to have someone respond to a call. I would sit with my mother on the weekend, waiting for someone to change her. I would lift her onto the toilet if I could. Not enough staff to attend to the wing of residents. Absolutely horrifying seeing our most prized Veterans being neglected this way!!!!! Some of the staff was friendly. Forget the RN's...Almost impossible to see one or get a full report on Mom. Food is terrible as well. Better off bringing food in for your relatives and have the kitchen heat it up. Good luck trying to understanding anyone on the telephone. I would ring the nurses station over and over until someone picked up. Then I couldn't understand anything they said. I guess English insn't a job requirement at the Veterans Home.
My father was a resident of the Veterans Home from May, until he died, in July 2018. I wish to express my thanks to all of the staff that served in the K-L wing. I found the medical personnel and all of the support staff to be of the highest caliber. They treated my father with professionalism and respect.

As a daily visitor I never saw residents left neglected. The staff is caring, empathetic and attentive to their needs. I would strongly recommend the facility to anyone considering residency.
My experience with this place has been nothing but negative. I’ve seen the review about this being a clean facility? The units are constantly being shut down for another infection or air borne illness. In the 3 years that my loved one has been a resident, I still haven’t seen one custodian clean whether it’s day or night. I wonder if they ever clean at all. The floors are dirty and sticky, the furniture worn and old and it smells horrible. It is sad that this is what we think our vets are worth. The facility is old and dated. It is in need of repair and remodeling. My biggest complaint is how short staffed they are and the neglect of the residents as a result of it.
Horrific way they treat our vets, my 82 year old grandfather is now in a wheelchair forever after he fell and broke his hip, nobody watches them, mind you he has Alzheimer's as well! He was able to walk before but now he cannot thanks to these idiots, other vets go in his room and steal his shirts, socks, shoes etc. This place is not properly ran for $6,000/month! Totally unacceptable, let everyone know the truth of this place, so sad because other places are more expensive and are not covered by his pension.
