Dr Hess and his PA are the best. No complaints here.

Communication is NOT one of their strengths. As a patient here, I was seen at the ER 3 times over a week, was told I need to follow up with the doctor ASAP. The woman who answered the phone was not the slightest bit compassionate. Refused to get me in before me next scheduled appointment which is a month away. When I mentioned another doctor who'd the hospital was consulting with they refused to schedule me with him. When this all started 5 days ago, I called to speak with the doctor 3 times and they've yet to have her return my calls.

A brilliant oncologist with a warm personality. He’s kept me alive for over twelve years. Very quick and responsive. He’s truly outstanding.

Never had to wait so long on a bed to be available. Was told to arrive at 3pm, but they made me sit and wait until after 7pm to get in a room. Slow as hell.

I was recently referred by the VA for a new diagnosis. The Staff at this Clinic was fantastic. They provided quality care, educated me on my condition and overall did a great job in decreasing my stress during this time. Great facility.

I would like to start this with stating that the facility was amazing. The nurses were kind to me, understanding...and what patient doesn't love heated, massaging seats, right?
Well, besides the patient who has to wait hours to receive chemo...every time.
No, my concern is with the pharmacy responsible for making the chemo...which I understand is another entity, but I can't find it on google reviews and I would like MUSC to see this somewhere.
Every time, it has been hours late. First time was 3, second time was 27 (was told I broke a record there) and third time was nearly 5. Nothing but waiting between these. The nurses have explained to me that this is common and strains them alot; so many patients are stuck there twiddling their thumbs.
Some of these reasons have made sense as to why there would be a delay; an hour into the most recent chemo, I was told that there is only one courier who has to deliver back and forth across campus (where the chemo pharmacy is). That said, the nurse was informed that it was already made and would be on the next delivery...and was shocked when deliveries kept coming and mine was left out. One of the nurses assigned to me actually found a chance to make a trek across campus when things were slow to try to find out the issue after the third hour (there was no chemo in me yet, just prep meds and waiting). I really appreciate that she did that.
The time where it was 27 hours? They just decided not to make it for the day and never informed us! I needed that chemo for a desensitization protocol, and by the time we were informed of this I was already checked in, and it was too late for a hotel. The nurses expected me to be first on the list when it opened since they decided to leave me out, but it was past 3pm when they finally got it to me.
Let me reiterate; none of this is the fault of the nurses. They were nothing short of wonderful, and they deserve to be commended...but what is going on with that Chemo Pharmacy?
Edit to add; the last chemo I had was the most terrifying yet. There were 5 desense patients checked in and only 2 nurses certified for desensitization. My nurse had no choice but to leave me alone for hours, briefly checking in from time to time.
To elaborate on why this is bad, desensitization is for patients who normally go anaphylactic with our chemo, so we have to get it slowly, with more drugs, and a nurse to watch us and stop us from...not breathing. A reaction can happen suddenly, and a nurse has to act fast.
I get it; I had a family member with me, and he could have screamed for help...this patient didn't have anyone in their room. She had no choice but to choose, she made the best, most logical choice she could have, and I don't blame her. But who is in charge of staffing in the oncology ward? They might need to have someone come in and provide a second pair of eyes on the schedule, because if this is the norm then the oncology ward is filled with some pretty vulnerable patients that are getting put in danger.

I have cml cancer. Baratam basically told me I was faking and have no issues with chemo and no pain, no stress etc. then right after told me I need a stem cell transplant since the chemo isn’t effective. I was already depressed with other things and that in itself has made me quit caring. I don’t sleep right and harming myself since then. I don’t see how I can be so well and have no health problems whatsoever but told I need to take chemo daily at the same time and go get a stem cell transplant where I’ll be hospitalized for a month and then have two months of treatment afterwards. Why try if the doctor makes you feel like a piece of trash

Ive been going to the hematology oncology clinic here for about over a year now for maintenance from my BMT. I had my procedure and treatment done in a different state but the Navy moved my family here so here we are. staff are incredibly friendly, but there are some cons to this clinic. Ive never gotten into my appointment on time, im always waiting minimally 20 minutes+ past the expected appointment time, which is frustrating to make plans along the day. I sort of feel like just another person here, i see a bunch of different providers i don't even know for sure who everyone is thats on my "team" :/ I sometimes have to overly advocate for myself about some things that seemed important to my previous providers but not so much here. I guess I should be happy that im not their priority patient anymore considering the establishment, but it is what it is.

This is by far the worst doctors office I have ever been in. I was scheduled to have labs done at 2pm which did happen. The nurse who drew my blood poked me several times and blew my vein in two different places. Then I was scheduled to see Dr. Green at 3pm. I was placed in the room at 3pm and at 3:45pm the doctor still has not come in. We decided to leave at this point. If a doctor will not see a patient for being more then 15 minutes late to the appointment, then I surely do not want to see a doctor that is more then 30 minutes for an appointment. I had received multiple phones calls about the referral that my PCP sent and all from different nurses trying to get my information on which cancer office I was originally seen at. All times they were given the same information. I already know I have cancer, all I wanted was a second opinion. Still, I was not able to get that. And on top of it all, they wanted me to prepay almost $300 for the visit. I sure am glad I asked to be billed. I'll definitely call my insurance provider tomorrow to let them know that no services were rendered except the labs. If I could give zero stars then I most definitely would.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Geils for almost three years. His vision and expertise has kept me from losing a leg because of blood clots due to Covid like blue toe syndrome and clots in my right lung and right knee.

Dr George Giles Sr kept my husband alive 22 years longer when all other drs gave him 6 months. I’ve always known I could call with a problem and help. There Infusion the department is top notch. In the profession to help people. Thank you Dr Giles

Excellent doctor, strategic approach to treatment, best education, Duke, Yale and Johns Hopkins. Very patient oriented and great care given to a patient's needs. Highly recommend, Dr.David Ellison
