Much bigger and elaborate than we thought. Quite fun discovering all the displays and history throughout. We got the triple ticket from the booth by the cable car which gave us a riverboat ride in addition to the cable car and fortress entrance. Well worth getting.
We choose to visit this place via cable car. The views were stunning and the fortress was pleasant to visit.
Historical fortress with a very extensive history..
Lots of additions have been made over the years and some of the original fortress is in very well preserved condition..
For me the visit was for its use during the war and its occupation by the German army... many of its exhibits are on display..
I really enjoyed walking along its walls and looking over the Rhine and its views of Koblenz...
Unfortunately as a UK visitor I found that descriptions of the exhibits were not in English so I had difficulty finding out about the displays...
I could understand how being of German nationality how the fortress could be an exciting place to explore and enjoy..
Had so many things to see and do...
Ticket prices were reasonable enough and our ticket price included a return cable car ride to Koblenz for around €19..
Car park nearby and plenty of space available...
Great view, but wow, you have to work to find it.
The maps are terrible, and no signs at all.
Very hot, scorching sun,. little shade, and we couldn't find the way out!
No signs, no staff working there, really horrible experience.
The displays are really boring and hacky - "Will this do?"
You do have to visit to see the confluence, but the rest is worthless and boring.
I attach nice pictures, and one showing the exit if you get lost too (note the lack of signage).
Spectacular cable car ride up but the excitement kind of stops them. Found the internal routes and displays inside the castle quite boring.
Also had limited English descriptions.
There was a nice restaurant within the grounds.
One of those “do it once” experiences
What can I say except for wow! Simply an amazing place, perhaps the most famous and popular landmark and tourist place in Koblenz. The cable car ride up from close to the Deutsches Eck (the German Corner) to this fortress is just as good an experience as the fortress itself.
On the cable ride, enjoy the views from above. At the fortress, enjoy some spectacular views of where the two rivers meet and enjoy the fortress itself with rich pieces of history. Not sure if I can post these pictures as it may not pass Google’s policies.
The fortress is massive and you can easily spend over half a day there. It has been said that evening views, especially during and after sunset are the best views, but the best views can be any time of the day.
A clear and sunny day is the best time for going to the fortress, having a walk around and inside the various rooms, these offer displays of some nice history along with some audio guidance.
The cost to enter is not expensive, and it is a once in a lifetime experience, so if you are in or around Koblenz, this is a must-see place.
Even if you are in Germany, travelling to places like Koblenz is very simple by train. On another note, if you don’t want to take the cable car to the fortress, it is also close to a local train station in Koblenz - it is the station Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein, probably named after the fortress.
Not by camper. We parked the camper yet were told that the 7-8 meter behind ot was not enough room for cars on the lot to pass. Real unpleasant an we were shown to some weird area 1 km away - could not find. Anyway walked about a km to enter. 8 EUR/person to get that one photo is not worth it. The fortress itself was an enigma and the signage did not help at all. The place remains an enigma, clean and tidy but obviously somebody just forgot that the tourists also would like to know/learn something. Restaurant, fastfood & toilets are good. Would not recommend for those travelling by camper. Just not worth it.
Definitely is worthwhile visiting this massive fortress on top of the hill. Best way to get up there to take the cable car. You could see the older and the newer parts of the fortress. Great views of the two rivers meeting together. Easil can spend a couple of hours up there. Breathtaking pictures of the entire valley.
Awesome view point to see the beauty of Rhine and Mosel. I really liked it being here with my family.
Koblenz and its fortress are absolutely stunning! The most impressive thing is the view of the city from above, with its beautiful old town located between the two rivers - Rhein and Mosel. I really enjoyed the cable car ride and the panorama; less remarkable are the museums and exhibitions inside the fortress. The funniest thing happened to me in the archaeological museum, which is nothing really special from my point of view, compared with other archaeological museums I have visited: the security guard told me that it was forbidden to take pictures there, so I had to delete the ones I had already taken. Of course I didn't complain; on the contrary, I want to thank him for reminding me to delete files that would only have occupied space in my hard drive.

Fortres Ehrenbreitstein is definately worth a visit for every fortification enthusiast. Be prepared for a bit of stepes and walking. There should be more english infotexts around. Expositions are not over-stuffed.
