Taking the ferry was actually a cool experience. You get a pretty good view of the Statue of Liberty if you’re sitting on the left side coming from Staten Island (right side coming from Manhattan to Staten Island).
It's a smooth ride that isn't too long and it's also FREE so if you have a chance you should check it out plus you get to see the statue of liberty up close for FREE (with a good view of other buildings)🗽
Amazing feeling we have been for ride at 4am. We have roamed all around the downtown and went for ride for free.. I suggest people spending so much for ride is wast of money. If you have time go out there take free ride after mid night will have very less people. I think all days it's free to Staten Island. 30min to Staten Island and come back 30 mins in the same ferry.. You can see statue of liberty and Manhatten view is amazing can't express it....
After availing this ferry for free I keep wondering why I was not even aware of this excellent service by NYDOT. We park our cars in St. George courthouse parking for $12 and avail this ferry. The terminal has good connection with Bus services. But getting a parking in this terminal is very hard. Every 30 mins the ferry service runs and carries a lot of passengers for free.

Service is on time and free. You cannot beat it. We viewed the Statue of Liberty for free while riding the ferry. You do need to rush to a good viewing spot on the ferry to ensure comfortable viewing of the sights.
Most people come here to see the Statue of Liberty from the free ferry. Board on the left side for the best view. You can also go near the front of the ferry to get the beautiful New York skyline while docking at Manhattan.
I went just to see the sun set. You can get a good view of the lady herself, the Statute of Liberty free, and the view was amazing. I recomend to be in front of the gate if you are going just to just for the view. This is public transportation, so it gets very busy. It was the weekend, so the ferry was every 30. Don't know if it is the same during the weekdays.

I had to go into Manhattan for the day and was very anxious about driving & parking. A friend suggested I park at the ferry and ride over that way. Parking cost was very reasonable ($1.50/hr or $12 for the day) even if a tad difficult to find (Google maps will tell you to use the viaduct but you want to use the lane going downwards in the middle to park). The ferry runs every few minutes and is free. You can see the statue of liberty from one side of the boat, and the skyline is great to photograph at night. There is many buses & subways available when you get off the ferry and a few restaurants inside the ferry stations when you are awaiting to board.
