Sonia is professional, kind, patient and has passion in her career
Ms Sônia is a true gem of a teacher. The kids love her. She can hold the attention of students as young as 3 years old and keep them engaged. My 5 year old looks forward to seeing Ms Sônia each week.
This is one of the best Ballet Schools in New York. The faculty are invested in helping adults learn.
This is such an outstanding organization and the Director is an STAR in every sense of the word! See the movie LIFT if you can and learn about their program which teaching ballet to children living in shelters and how it changes their lives.
This studio is very quite, peaceful and disciplined. The teacher we have is amazing with kids. My daughter just started her class here and she says she loves it and that’s all matter to me.
I couldn't be happier with the ballet school where my daughter attends. The corrections the teachers make are both insightful and constructive, helping her improve with each lesson. What's truly heartwarming is the strong friendships she's formed with her fellow dancers. The teachers are not only incredibly skilled but also kind and approachable, always willing to assist both students and parents. It's impressive to see how involved the kids are in shows from such a young age, fostering confidence and a love for the art.

Great experience ever!
I’ve taken two intermediate classes (adult division) so far at the studio (each with a different teacher) and both were fantastic, relatively small classes (4-15 students each). Fun and engaging teachers who give helpful corrections and encouragement. I love that both teachers seemed to approach their classes with the perspective that adult ballet dancers want to learn and improve to be the best dancers they can be—teaching class rather than giving class. Looking forward to going back. Fun energy in the halls and locker/changing room as well- friendly and kind dancers.

My very first dance class ever was five years ago with New York Theatre Ballet. I joined the adult beginner ballet class not knowing what to expect, but I quickly realized that I had found an amazing group of people and dancers.
The teachers are fantastic! If you ask for help, they will guide you with focused suggestions that are specific to your body and skill level. I have grown so much stronger and more flexible over the years, all while gaining an appreciation of the artistry and athleticism of classical ballet.

A gem of a ballet school. Our family is so grateful for the exceptional quality of instruction and training our daughters receive at NYTB, and for the nurturing and empowering environment that Ms. Byer and all of the teachers and staff help to foster. We've been with the school for over a year and a half and it has been nothing but a great experience for our daughters, and their proud parents. We love being a part of the NYTB family!

This legendary school, performing arts center, refuge for young and old alike is among the country’s greatest contributors to society. Artistic director, Diana Byer, is a wonderful instructor / leader and feeder of talent to the arts of NYC and Hollywood. Very highly recommended.
My daughter has been a student at the School of NYTB for five years, now returning for her sixth. Diana Byer has created a one-of-a-kind school for young dance students in NYC. For over forty years she has fostered a safe and caring institution where older students take pride in welcoming and caring for younger students; where Ms. Byer and her staff treat our children not only as young professionals but part of the NYTB family. We have always appreciated the serious ballet training that is offered at the school as well as the opportunity for young students to perform in many NYTB performances, building confidence on stage and in life. Along with their LIFT scholarship program, NYTB is a small arts organization that is vital to New York City and its families.

Would not recommend any student (actor or dancer) looking to learn attend school here. Staff regularly engages with unsafe practices with students of all levels (adult to child) in their studios. There is no level of responsibility or accountability from higher management, either, when sensitive issues are brought to their attention discretely. 0/10. Do not recommend.
We just had a birthday party at dance workshop and it was amazing! They were wonderful to work with. The teacher choreographed an awesome dance (that was age and ability appropriate) and even asked for our input to make the perfect playlist. All the 9 year olds had a blast and are still talking about it and doing the dance moves 3 days later!
My family is very disappointed. We had a really bad experience with the audition process. We cannot understand how boys who had ballet training for three years cannot pass the auditions. We are raising the question of whether you have to have connections to get in ???

Please give Marsha a regular weekly class! She makes detailed corrections and is super nice to students. I am trying to make every beginner class that she sub for, and she deserves a regular weekly class!
I love ballet and most of all I love ABT. Kevin McKenzie has done a fantastic job leading this company.
Beautiful Swan Lake. The corp de ballet was sensational. Principal dancers Gillian Murphy and Thomas Forster. Miss Murphy performance was impecable. She lose control on the fouettes but the rest was very clean. Mr. Foster gime the impression that was injured because i dont see he never dance full anytime.

Beautiful talented world class ballet! Also they keep you and these wonderful performers safe with vaccine checks and masks. The Chagalls are also stunning. If you are in New York City you must go to an ABT performance

The business still owes me a refund of $1200. I kept calling and hearing, "the check is in the mail." Eventually, I gave up. Feeling swindled.

My daughter has been taking ballet with Chrystie Street Ballet for about 4 years. They offer good quality classes at an affordable price and the traditional discipline with some short
moments of play which create good community (such as dress up day the week of Halloween, quick share times and freeze dance when possible). They have high expectations and teach/review the corresponding vocabulary words with the moves taught.
My daughter has enjoyed working up the leotard levels and is looking forward to reaching the black leotard level!

The professional teaching of the Manhattan Ballet School has taught me how to become a great dancer as well as a disciplined student. I have also learned how to become a great friend and community member.
I danced here and now my daughter dances here as well, and Manhattan Ballet School is like a second home to our family. My daughter is graduating this year, and I could not be happier that this school was such a large part of her childhood!

The curriculum and technique is very detail-oriented and the faculty always strive for their students to do the very best they can.
Amazing , dedicated teachers who give each dancer personal attention and are committed to developing individual skills. Classes are offered both virtually and in studio due to COVID-19. The teachers are also wondering at making the most of whatever space you have to dance in when joining virtually. I’ve been taking classes here for years and am so grateful for this school (now more than ever)!
Correction, not the American Ballet Theatre, but AMC movie Theatre on 19th and 6 Avenue. Beautiful place felt great seeing a movie on the big screen.
The theater was very, very clean. Pleasant services, social distance, hand sanitizer everywhere, great customer service. The popcorn was great as well as the movie. Happy to see movie Theatres open again.😄♥️. I give it a big KUDOS!!

My daughter is enjoying Sonia and her ballet experience at ASB! Sonia is passionate about her love of ballet. She’s very enthusiastic and a great inspiration. She has a lot of talent and provides good direction. We recommend this dance studio.

Super fun virtual way to learn ballet as an adult. No judgment, challenging, but rewarding. Eliza is full of energy and kind. The choreography is beautiful with the selected music. Every month the dance sequence built on itself and it is so enjoyable to dance it.
I can't say enough great things about the Ballet Spot! Every class I have taken is challenging enough to be a great workout but so fun it doesn't feel like you are working out. The instructors are totally pro and take time to make sure your form is on point. It is as close to being in a studio as you can get. Jump in and take a cardio ballet class and you will be sweating or slow down a little with ballet breathe and flow. So, so great!
I have written positive comments before. I have been taking sculpt regularly with Quincy Hydock since the Pandemic began my motivation was to improve my balance and strength to apply to other activities. I have seen very positive results. I would encourage anyone interested in improving his or her fitness to try the class. As with all classes at the ballet spot no experience necessarily.
I took the live stream total body barre class with Eliza this morning. What a challenge. She is a very good teacher, gives instructions and demos very clearly. The class was structured very well. It put me through the paces I'd not been through for a while. My family was surprised when I praised the class! Thank you! I'm dying to know if her apartment is in Manhattan, the kitchen is a great kitchen.
As someone who took dance classes as a child, this is such a fun way to exercise! My instructor Deepa Liegel hit all the points. She broke down the combination throughout the class so we were warmed up and prepared to do the moves. The energy was upbeat and positive. There was enough challenge and personality in the piece, and she offered modifications so anyone could access it. As a bonus, she gave us background info on the style of ballet we were learning. I feel fortunate to take class at my level, from my apartment with such a talented instructor. I will be back!
Returned to ballet after many years and LOVE all the classes The Ballet Spot has offered. From strength, to stretch, and most importantly ballet! The instructors are high energy, professional, and excellent dancers! I would highly recommend The Ballet Spot to anyone interested in dance. They really make it fun!!
Love these online ballet lessons! Just did my first ballet class in 25 years as part of a little group private lesson. Wearing socks. In my living room. Eliza is cheerful, encouraging, and a really lovely dancer. Great workout, completely affordable, inclusive of all levels, pandemic safe... Excited for next week already :)
The live online classes during this pandemic have been wonderful. I had not set foot inside a dance studio in 35 years, and at 62 I thought those days were behind me. The online Cardio Ballet classes are a great workout, while bringing me back to the world of dance in a fun, supportive, non-judgmental setting. The quality of teaching from these professional dancers is outstanding. The Ballet Spot has proven that it's never too late to be a dancer!

My daughter started classes here recently. We got very lucky, and the first teacher we went to, she fell in love with. Both the teacher and the assistants go an extra mile to support my shy girl, and make her feel comfortable and engaged. She’s all smiles to go in and come out.
I used to believe an extreme and intense workout was necessary to get the physique I wanted until I found Everyday Ballet. I LOVE Everyday Ballet! From day one after trying it out via ClassPass- I was hooked. Although I kept my ClassPass membership to do other things (boxing, HITT, etc.) because I was nervous, I wouldn't stay in shape if I only did ballet. WELL, I WAS WRONG! I learned the more ballet you do, the more it works for you!
I had an emergency surgery that required me to be off from all workouts for six weeks. When I was ready to exercise, my body was too fragile to take on anything that strained my body. My husband suggested only doing ballet for a month until I was back on my feet. Fast forward three months, and I'm only doing Everyday Ballet, and I'm in the BEST shape of my life. The best part is I love being there. I never have the tread of getting in the right mental place to go because it's so fun. Tiekka, the other instructors, they all have such a great passion for dance. You see it in their smiles and how they engage with the class.
My only regret is I didn't become an unlimited ballet student sooner. GO! Get off Classpass and go 3-4 times a week, and you will be amazed by how you feel, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Being an absolute beginner, i had an amazing ballet barre class with Shoshanna. She gave a lot of practical advice and guidance. These movements seem easy from outside, but i was sweating a lot, though i do exercise regularly. The class is closer to classic ballet workout than to what you normally get in NYC barre studios. And amazing classic music makes the class a really awesome experience.

Perhaps my favorite place on earth. Okay, top five. I am an adult student, I travel frequently so in addition to trying to a couple other studios in NYC I've tried several in other cities in the US and even a few abroad, so I feel I can say with some authority NOTHING COMPARES TO BALLET ACADEMY EAST. Seriously, the teachers here are phenomenal, they truly care, they don't treat you like an out of shape human in an ill fitting leotard (how I tend to feel in dance class) rather they treat you like their life depends on you learning how to dance correctly. You will get tons of feedback and corrections. The teachers explain and mark everything so you will never be confused or uncertain of how to dance. They have so many levels so you can be certain that so long as you attend a class at your level you will be able to do everything in that class (although it will certainly still be a challenge). Such a privilege to learn from these teachers.

The best for adult ballet classes. Great teachers, small classes and a wholesome diverse group of adults. There's also a live piano with creative fun pianists who will make dancing to the music a breeze even for a first time beginner.

Fantastic ballet lessons for kids. My 8 year old son has learned SO much, and the instructors are patient and friendly even when he is not 100% focused. Even though our commute is kind of crazy for the class, it is worth every extra R train delay :)

You will LOVE it!!! Tiekka is awesome! I was a complete beginner and I was affraid of starting a ballet class as an adult. But this class is perfect, Tiekka makes you feel instantly comfortable. The content of the class is the same for one month so you have the time to learn and improve your movements. There is no judgment, you can learn at your own pace. This is definitely the perfect class for beginners.
Tiekka is an incredible teacher. This class is accessible to all level dancers. Have so much fun each time I go!!
I don’t recommend this ballet school at all. My 6 year old Niece had strep throat and missed one session of rehearsal . Her teacher a lady called Jennifer Groenke proceeded to tell her to never come back or to bother showing up to the show she was rehearsing for. She also called her a clumsy girl. This is a 6 year old girl who loves to dance and now has experienced deep emotional stress after being embarrassed in front of her class and the parents. She now has massive self esteem issues thanks to the cruelty of this woman.

ASBallet NY is a wonderful school. The director Sonia truly cares to teach ballet and to spread her love for ballet. Not only do the students learn ballet but they also learn valuable life lessons that they can carry with them for the rest of their life. The environment is most definitely like a family. The students look up to the company members as well as the older students. The new studio is also very beautiful. ASBallet NY is greatly recommended.
Had a great experience at this studio. It's a bit of a cardio workout getting up the 5 flights of stairs, but you're there for the exercise anyways!
Instructor was very helpful and welcoming. I'd say the class is probably best for someone who has taken ballet/dance classes before of someone who is willing to stick it out for a few classes to know the position names.

If anyone is looking for a great ballet school near the Lower Manhattan area, I recommend checking out Chrystie Ballet. Ms. Melinda and her staff are wonderful. My kids love her teaching style. Kids are so well behaved. My little one took right away with Ms. Sara. We put the kids in there to develop confidence, balance, posture, etc. We did try out several other places before being referred by a friend to here.
P.S. The school did lose their lease unexpectedly. They currently have satellite locations about 15 minutes walking distance from Chinatown.
The school teached formal ballet. We love that the teachers are demanding. My kids come out smiling after class.

I have taken many classes and her wisdom and words along with the physicality made me feel stronger inside and out- I left with a completely new outlook on everything, she is AMAZING!!!!!!!

We went to see Fire-bird May 21. There were 3 mini-ballets pieces in one show. All three unbelievably spectacular. What a glorious thing American Ballet! You'll get to see best of the best. It is definitely one of the best New York attractions.
Teachers for adult classes are great and more easygoing than other studios. If you ask for help, they are always more than happy to oblige. Other students are helpful, not at all snooty. Studio space is a bit smaller making floor work for a night class a bit crowded. I love that there is always a ballet pianist which adds to the authenticity of the experience. Make sure you read class description and place yourself in the appropriate skill level class!
I spent time here in 1978-1979. The absolute best training a young dancer can hope for is located here. Two of my teachers I remember well were Mr. Brown and Madame Paraslavick. My Maiden name was Sharon Thompson.
