The best vet care our animals have ever had. Hands down amazing. They truly care and are incredibly knowledgeable. We have been seen by each of the vets there and we love them all. Can’t recommend highly enough!!!

As many other reviewers have noted, this vet Center is profit driven. I took my cat here today to establish care as we just moved and need a regular vet. Before even meeting my cat or examining him, they tried to sell me a long list of “suggested” bloodwork for a number of diseases that he doesn’t have. He’s in good health. When I said he’s in good health and I’m just here to establish care, the vet assistant said “it’s my job to tell you this”. Okay. Secondly, my cat can be aggressive at the vet because he gets scared. The vet acted like she had never touched a cat before. She didn’t put on protective gloves or even use a towel to try and pick him up out of the cage. She asked me to do it? And then when he hisses she said she wouldn’t do a check up. I’ve been to the vet many times with my cat, and while he can be aggressive, vets and their assistants are trained to deal with that. I won’t be going back and I don’t recommend this place to anyone.

Horrible Vet. I recently moved to Boston and tried this vet. They only want money, only care scheduling the next appointment. The personal its good, sadly there system is very corrupt. Would have liked someone to tell me this before giving my trust to this organization.

We’ve been to so many vets around the Boston area and Huron is far and away the best place we’ve been to. They were able to immediately diagnose our very sick Frenchie after FOUR other vets put him on medication that they suspected could treat what was going on with him, only to find out that all of them were wrong with their diagnoses. Huron called us immediately and told us to cancel our day to bring our dog to Angell for further testing, and since then has been incredible about treating him with the utmost care, checking in with us years later, and taking our dog’s neurological condition into careful consideration with everything they prescribe to him. We never feel rushed out of our appointments, all of the vets and vet techs remember us each time, and every doctor there is so incredibly smart, empathetic, and clearly deeply care for all animals. Plus, our dog LOVES going there. As long as we live in Massachusetts, Huron will be our go-to veterinary hospital. We are so grateful for them - and thanks to their diligence, our Frenchie is living a full and happy life almost four years after a diagnosis that would have killed him had Huron not alerted us about what might be going on. They always have a waiting list (for good reason) - get on it today, you won’t regret it!! Thank you Huron!

Incredible and patient team of vets and staff. My dog is a reactive and nervous rescue, and they are extremely patient with her. It usually takes an hour of treats and coaxing to complete her yearly checkup, and the staff here always goes above and beyond for us.

TLDR: DO NOT let this clinic tell you that you must come in and pay for a follow-up visit to obtain results of your pet's labs or tests. They are legally obligated to give you your pet's medical records upon request just like your own doctor would. Here, they intentionally withhold information and milk their clients for unnecessary visits as they value money above all.
This is not a complaint towards any particular individual at the Somerville Vet Center, but rather a commentary on the clinic's questionable policies and ethics. While I have chosen to find a different vet for my dog, I’m hoping that this clinic either changes its practices, or at least that this helps inform current and future clients of their rights as pet owners.
My dog had been having GI issues for a few weeks so we took him in for stool testing which came back positive for Giardia. They prescribed medication and told us to come drop off another sample in 3-4 weeks, so we did just that. Two days later, I called the clinic to ask about the results of the test (which we had already paid for) and was informed that they will not release results until I come in for a follow-up. As doctors, their job is to advocate for the animal’s health and help owners make informed decisions.... this could not have been further from the truth here. Later that day, I spoke with a supervisor and informed them that it is actually illegal to withhold medical records upon request – only after that was mentioned, they sent me the results immediately. My dog’s labs came back negative for Giardia and all other infections/parasites. Knowing this, they still had full intent to take my money. Truthfully, we haven’t loved this place from the start (for various reasons), but this last incident was enough to end our relationship and finally find a better & more honest practice for our pup!

I never do bad reviews but I believe others should be warned of the poor services at this clinic. Horrible service and personnel don't show caring for the animals. We called the clinic to get some suggestions on how to proceed with our dog's alarming symptoms. They are unwilling to connect us to the right place to go nor be seen by a technician or a staff member to see if it's something to go to an urgent care. Even rude to us. We didn't ask to be seen on same day but just to see of we are dealing with an emergency or can wait 4 more days to be seen by someone at their clinic. Even with the personnel there no one had the decency to check on our dog. I advice you to go elsewhere if you want to receive optimal services of a vet office who really cares about your dog and love for their profession.
Our dog is suffering and they could care less. Maybe someone in the clinic may reply and deny this, but this is what happened to me today and very unfortunate. Won't be going to this clinic again and took a copy of my dog's record.

Moved to Beverly from Somerville and now have the pleasure of a vet that isn't a numbers farm.
Never got prescribed the correct medication based on arbitrary decisions of the business. Our dog had yeast infection for over a year for choice of not carrying oral anti fungals. Topical treatments did not beat the infection down.
Consistent feedback about dog's aggressiveness and biting that completely dropped off after moving to a vet whose staff are just more skilled at handling animals.
Vet tech who would freak out about a 40 lb dog jumping up and saying hello. Get over it or get a different job. Some dogs jump up and say hi, and we aren't going to train it out of him.

When I moved to the Boston area I tried a few different vets, including 2 others in Somerville. I just didn't like any of them for different reasons. A friend recommended this place and we've been coming here for about 5 years now. They do a great job! I haven't been able to get to know one vet because we tend to always see a different one and luckily we haven't needed anything too major, but I have always had a good experience. The office staff is always very friendly and helpful and they keep good records. Highly recommended.

This post is from the perspective of a job applicant.
I recently scheduled a phone interview with Somerville Veterinary Center for a posted position through Indeed. Shortly before the interview start time, I was asked if the interview could be pushed back an hour. I was flexible and said yes. I received a phone call from a hiring manager at the rescheduled time, but the call seemed to have dropped within a minute. I called back twice, left a voicemail, and followed up through Indeed. Four days later, I received an email through Indeed letting me know Somerville Veterinary Center had decided to move forward in the interview process without me. I took time off from work to interview for a position at this practice and would have appreciated more professional behavior. Applicants beware.

I've been bringing my cat here for a few years now and it wasn't bad, they're open for longer hours and do most things. However, they have drastically increased their prices, because I was charged over $500 for a basic annual wellness visit. I will be changing vets because I can't afford that much for one visit when others in the area are below 200 for all the same services

My cats have received excellent care from three of the vets at Huron since 2019. Yesterday, I made a last minute appointment as I realized my senior cat likely needed to be euthanized. Dr Ulrich and all of the staff we interacted with provided a positive and supportive experience. I am grateful and continue to recommend this practice.

I got my first puppy this fall, so I was very new to everything. One morning I woke up to him having a bad eye infection. Panicking, I called the vet and they got me in within the hour!! They are so kind, so tentative and a truly helpful group of people. They even text you! Making appointments and health questions (even sending pictures) so easy. I highly recommend them!

Really kind + compassionate vet staff. I have several times been offered same-day appointments when available for urgent issues. Me and my dogs love porter square vet,!

Very impressed by Huron all around, both the vets and the front desk team. My cat has been a patient since 2020. Prices are reasonable and care is excellent!

Been going here for a few years. Vet care is good but will stop doing ear cleanings/claw trims here.
6 months ago I heard the loudest scream from my cat while waiting in the lobby for his ear cleaning. Afterwards realized he became deaf. There's no conclusive evidence of this, so I thought I shouldn't blame them.
But during the latest visit something happened again. My cat was returned to me with one claw bloody and mangled looking after a claw trim. But the vet tech didn't say anything about it, just gave me my cat. I had to explicitly point out the bloody paw for them to say something - but they just told me it's normal.
I trim his claws every 2 weeks and this has never happened. I've never drawn blood but I've seen a relative accidentally draw blood during a trim. A tiny bit of blood came out, definitely not like this.
So yeah, after the ear cleaning incident AND the claw incident I think it's best to not come here or just stick to veterinary stuff and not claw/ear stuff.
Attached are before and after pictures of his paw

Traveling we stopped off in Boston to see a friend in grad school at Harvard. Our dog had an emergency problem, we looked to see where the closest vet hospital was. On entering the premises, we explained to the receptionist what happened and she says "we don't do emergencies, here's the addresses of some emergency veterinary hospitals." We had an acute emergency - our dog had a seizure and had never had one before. No offer to even see if the veterinarian would see our dog. People are from out of town, they don't know which vet hospital to go to and quite frankly when your dog has a seizure and is not elderly, a little compassion would have been nice. I know if I lived there I would not take my pets there after interacting with that receptionist.

I have been coming here for 30 years, and all that time Dr. Parker has been our vet for both dogs and cats. We’ve gotten nothing but excellent care, respect and consideration from all of us that I’ve seen as well as the front desk. There was a period during Covid, when it was a little chaotic and stressful in there, but that was true everywhere. Currently, I have gotten wonderful advice when I call in and my puppy has diarrhea or I need some other advice. The women at the front desk are really helpful. They also accept donations for the charity, Every Pet Counts. Dr. Parker is part of that effort to bring care food and medicines to people who can’t afford it otherwise. I have brought in food medicines and a dog bed from a dog I had who died recently. I think they’re terrific!

Vets are good, front desk is a whole other disaster . Especially someone I was unfortunate to cross path with - an Emily. Re-training in how to work in a customer service job would benefit her greatly . Will be finding a new vet after this. Don’t waste your time here , I promise you can find better that actually treats you with respect.

Failed us at a time of need.
While being a customer there for my dog he had woken up one morning being extremely sick. I explained everything going in to them in the phone and they said they could get him in, in two days. I tried to emphasize the severity of what had been going on, did not matter.
I immediately called a different veterinarian in Lynnfield and they said to come in right away. He passed away the next day sadly.

Absolutely fabulous vet! I took my cat in for his annual and they were great about listening to my concerns. The least stressful vet visit I’ve had in awhile! Dr. Precopio has a great manner, is transparent with care, and great with cats! My cat was seen in a timely manner and they let us check out in the room so he wasn’t as stressed. The price is actually quite reasonable for the area.

The only negative is a lack of parking. The Center has no dedicated parking spots, while parking on the main street is rarely available, and all small streets around are by local permit only.
Great experience otherwise. Nice, clean, competent, very responsive.

Dr. Murphy is the best! We bring our two dogs here and she's so nice, knowledgeable and clearly an animal person that knows how to interact with anyone and anything. We moved to the suburbs but are still coming back to see her because she's that great. We have had basically no issues with coming to this vet at all (dog issues, yes, but that's why we bring them there) and are happy to have found such a great place that can handle small things, annual checkups as well as help out with bigger problems. Arya says thank you for the cone, I hope I don't have to wear it for very long!

It can be so hard to find a vet to trust with the care of your pet. We lucked out with Huron, as they were one of the first places we visited and we could not have found anywhere better. We love every vet here, as well as the fantastic support staff. They are knowledgeable, skilled, and truly empathetic. The take great care of our little guy, and they do fantastic education to help us be the best owners we can be. If you’re able to make this place your vet, you absolutely should.
