Nice building and nice exhibition. Entrance is on the west side of the building opposite the mall, the north side is only for exit. It was busy but not too crowded during the weekend.

We went to visit the museum early on a weekend and there was already a line when we arrived. We were just in time for the opening. The museum is a massive, unique and well-designed structure. It is easy to go around even for seniors. There are toilets , lifts/escalators and seats around the complex. The tour inside is very educational too. One of the highlights of this place is a giant digital screen replicating a long ancient scroll where the people in the painting can walk and talk. I dont really know how to describe it but it is a must- see when you get there. There is also a cafe and a souviner shop inside. Overall it was a good experience.
The China Art Museum is a fantastic place to explore Chinese arts and culture. It's free to visit and easy to reach from Metro Line 8. The museum is huge and showcases artworks from various historical periods

A massive and fascinating piece of architecture. It houses a large collection of contemporary art.

We went on a weekend so there were a lot of visitors but there was still enough room for everyone. Set aside at least half a day for this.

The Shanghai Museum of Art stands as a captivating testament to the dynamic intersection of tradition and modernity in Chinese art. Nestled in the heart of Shanghai, this cultural haven beckons visitors with its expansive collection that seamlessly weaves together classical masterpieces and avant-garde expressions.

One of the museum's notable strengths lies in its ability to embrace the continuum of Chinese art, offering a comprehensive journey through time. Ancient scrolls and traditional ink paintings coexist harmoniously with contemporary sculptures and experimental installations. This juxtaposition creates a dialogue that transcends temporal boundaries, providing patrons with a profound understanding of China's artistic evolution.

The architectural design of the museum complements its artistic offerings. A harmonious blend of modern aesthetics and traditional Chinese elements, the building itself becomes a canvas for artistic dialogue. The interplay of natural light and innovative exhibition spaces enhances the immersive experience for visitors, fostering a connection between the art and its environment.

While the museum celebrates its rich heritage, it also serves as a dynamic platform for emerging artists, ensuring a vibrant representation of the contemporary Chinese art scene. The curation reflects a thoughtful balance, showcasing diversity in style, medium, and narrative.

In summary, the Shanghai Museum of Art is a cultural gem that not only preserves the essence of China's artistic legacy but also propels it forward into the realm of the contemporary. It stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of creativity, making it a must-visit for both art enthusiasts and those seeking a profound encounter with the cultural tapestry of China.

Absolute state of the Art Museum. Avoid a visit on the weekend. The Museum is large and there are exhibits from all historical time periods. A special highlight is the huge animated town picture from Ming Dynasty which allows an excellent virtual trip to rhe middle age. You should purchase tickets in advance. The visit can be enriched with a bike tour alongside the Huang Pu river. The Museum is also attractive for Children.

Truly a wonderful place to see the arts of China!
I saw a lot of interesting things here and im amazed by it.

The place is free to enter, it’s really huge that you need at-least a half day to fully roam around.

Just a few meters away from the nearest train station too and there’s a mall beside it so do not worry where to eat after you explore China Art Museum.

By the way if you don’t want to walk on the steps going up there are escalators in at the end of the stairs.
This is not a history museum, there are no artifacts here. It is actually a wax museum depicting the old shanghai and its glory of the old days. A fashionable and forward city even in 1920s. Worth a look if u have the time. This wax museum is not a building by its own. It is INSIDE the DONG FANG MING CHU tower at the basement. Entrance is free as part of the tower tix and tour.
I am quite impressed with the museum size. I thought it would be a quick overview of the Shanghai but it has some interesting insights of the city in the past, present and future. Maybe more English descriptions for non-Chinese speakers

Its an interesting museum. It has life-size replicas of old Shanghai people, streets and shops. It's under the pearl building (the one with the purple spheres). Buy your tickets at the central area where they also sell tickets to all of the other attractions then bring it to the museum.
Excellent museum showing how the Bund and surrounding areas of Shanghai has changed and developed over the years from pre to post colonial times. Lots to see and read. You can easily spend over 90 minutes here. Worth purchasing a ticket to the pearl tower with museum entry included.
It was really nice experience to look at history of Shanghai and influence of English people on its culture .
You can see English courts, architecture and daily life of Shanghai during this period dominated by English people.
he museum tell the visitors story the history the shanghai port since 1843
is very interesting because using different media to watch this history
can you see streets , port and the houses from init to now in shanghai
This is inside Shanghai TV Pearl Tower, basically for Art, artifacts, documents & photos illustrating the history of Shanghai.
If you're going to the Pearl Tower you should swing through the museum. It's really interesting, and the 3D scenes and models are fun to look at.
