This interesting museum looks at how poorer people lived in Nottingham over the years. It is included with your castle ticket.
Educational galleries and history all in one place.
One of the best museums I have been to. First of all you can visit both this and the Caves with a combined ticket. (In the caves we got a full tour by a wonderful guide, talking to us about all the different iterations the caves went through.) In this particular museum there are at least 2 live events, that in a humorous and interactive matter demonstrate legal proceedings of past centuries. These run every hour or so according to the programme provided upon entry. The museum takes you through historical objects, the role of the building it’s housed in, telling the stories of its people and thus paints a detailed picture of justice through the centuries.
Amazing museum with many exhibitions, rooms and even two live performances: Trial and execution! So take enough time with you as it is easy to spend half a day here.
First time visiting in 10 years and it seems much improved. Really nice grounds to walk around. Inside is a permanent history exhibition, art exhibition and a temporary exhibition.
Downstairs there is a medieval experience with some interactive games mostly aimed at kids. Overall a great half day out, longer if the weather is good and you stay to enjoy the grounds.
Great views over Nottingham and to the South as well.
At weekends and bank holidays you can also visit the cottages below the rock which have been restored, and walk around the cave at the back which is surprisingly large (as big as 2 houses itself).
There is also a paid cave tour which we have not done for £5 more.

We had a wonderful time exploring Nottingham Castle.
The park, castle, and museum were all lovely and provided a great educational experience. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, which made our visit even better.
The view from the top of the castle was undoubtedly the best view of the city!

Visited Nottingham Castle and had a great experience overall! The historical significance and beautiful views make it a must-visit. However, some areas were under renovation during my visit, which slightly impacted the experience. Nonetheless, I highly recommend it for history buffs and those seeking a glimpse into Nottingham's past.
The castle has been closed for so long I was looking forward to visiting finally but it has been renovated poorly. It's nice to look at from the outside but it's sad that there's hardly any original features left after the restorations. Nice views from the top. It doesn't feel like a Castle/palace at all, it's just a gallery now with a cafe and some bits of Nottingham history.

Very interesting experience. Past mixed with new technologies. The place is huge, 3 floors, a lot of history, amazing views, interesting interactions like shouting from a bow and dressing up as peasants :)))) worth visiting. It took us 45 Minutes, but we were in a hurry. I think it may be a 2 hrs attraction. They have a little coffee inside and a souvenir shop. History lessons are done by interactive people on the screen. You can also watch cartoons about certain events around the castle.
I visited here on a day trip to Nottingham. It was a bit hard to find from the train station, so I had to use Google Maps. The staff were extremely helpful as the layout can be slightly confusing, but overall, it was an amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone visiting Nottingham. I was incredibly impressed as a neurodiverse person with the sensory map they provide to visitors.
Excellent museum and castle to visit. Well priced at £12 per adult and free for children. Take a picnic - there are lots of grounds to sit in with lots of benches and seats.
Such a fun experience! I’d have loved to spend more time going through everything in more detail but our group had several younger kids (under 10) who, though they enjoyed the offerings, weren’t as keen on the details as the adults were. The mock trial and “hanging” were really well done and I loved how they based the performances off of real life happenings. If you enjoy learning about how far we’ve come (or how backwards) our social “justice” system was/is, I definitely recommend taking this in while in Nottingham. They had an area dedicated to the inception of Forensic Science which was really well done! A very cool detail was the wrist band you were given upon entry had a “convict number” and throughout the museum, you would come across the stories of these real people. Very well done and an interactive way to educate and engage those visiting.
I really enjoy wandering around the castle grounds on a sunny day, and taking a look at the art gallery and museum when the weather is not so good. 2 nice cafes and a lovely atmosphere. Tours available but not got around to it yet.
It is a fascinating museum that takes you on a journey about crime throughout our history. Perceptions of criminals and the history of the justice system. The photo exhibition of Juvenile in Justice, photographed in America by Richard Ross, is very thought-provoking. It confronts and highlights the desperate need for social change, raising awareness of so many things wrong with our state systems regarding social deprivation and poverty, which often lead to crime. Nurture these communities with hope and opportunities, resources and tools, sports, art, and music for children to thrive, then less will be forced into crime to survive. The exhibition is brilliant in the way it gets this message across. We can all make a difference. Well worth visiting. What you learn here will stay with you.
Fun and informative, I especially enjoyed the court reenactment and the members of the public who also participated. The live actors were great, very funny
Absolutely fantastic learning experience. We had the pleasure of receiving excellent performances from an individual playing a barrister and an individual playing a judge and hangman.
The Barrister actor was exceptionally talented and well informed in history. She spent time talking to us about the history of the building and it was clear she has a passion for education.

Absolutely brilliant family or group day out. So much history to learn about. The place has an eerie feel and I'd love to go back for a ghost walk! The staff and actors get the 5 out of 5 from me, friendly, informative and very funny.
Hidden away near Lakeside, always something new to view each time I have visited, but then it's about 12 to 18 months between visits, staff on duty are normally very helpful, been visiting since my 18yr old was 4.
Awesome interactive and family friendly art gallery and museum with fun activities for kids and adults! Lots of games and local Nottingham history including some lace exhibitions. Kids under 15 go free and we only paid £12 per adult for unlimited access for a year. Will definitely come back again!
A good day out to pass a few hours
Took my daughter today for the first time, she absolutely loved it. The staff are actually amazing! Made me and my daughter so welcome and spoke to us for ages. The museum itself and items they have are amazing too! There's so much to look at and take in. Big shout out to Rihanna (hope I've spelt it right) you are amazing and thanks for taking us round today. We will be back, my daughter already wanted to come back an hour after leaving to see her new 'friends'. I honestly can't thank you all enough, you've made a little girl very happy today.
Visited today with my daughter, had a really good visit! Lots to see and some very interesting items with the history to go with it. The staff are really friendly and came to give us talks on some of the items. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend an afternoon
Wonderful place full of fascinating items with very friendly staff and occasional visits from mediums! I've been a couple of times and each time there has been something new and they move things around so you may see something you missed last time.
There is such a good variety too, items belonging to a potential serial killer, cursed dolls, death masks, muffled animals, taxidermy animals, bones of viking and much more! A must go for one with morbid curiosity

Didn't unfortunately get to experience this place as our night got cancelled due to the high winds. Fair play to the two workers who had to stand in the freezing cold telling every person that came in the same thing. I hope they didn't get too much abuse. Here's to next year when we can go hopefully!
The museum is set inside a beautiful building, its stunning. The exhibits are very interesting, and from what we saw of the grounds it is set in some fantastic countryside . We saw deers, which was beautiful and had some food and drinks in the cafe. The cafe is quite cold at this time of year, so wrap up warm. There are also a couple of nice little shops, all in all a very pleasant visit.

This is a great experience overall, particularly for kids. There are many interactive displays, with the archery and quarter staff being very popular. Lots of interesting historical stories presented in very engaging ways (the noose display is bold). The outdoor play area is really well done and if you’re lucky the views from there are stunning. Kids go free and the ticket can be used for a year.
Plenty to do but it's not really a castle in the true sense. It was a castle and there are remnants of it and the building that is now there was a stately home I think. The ticket you purchase gives you access to the grounds for a year and we visited over two days. I would recommend you do the Robin Hood experience first which is the first entrance you can see when leaving the shop and ticket office. Some good interactive boards, virtual archery and virtual combat, all good fun. Some fun easy games in the medieval area and the rebellion gallery certainly kept my attention with portrayals of Nottingham castle's history. There's a more formal art gallery and currently an exhibition about people moving to Nottingham from the Caribbean and their heritage. Another thing recommended is a tour of the man made caves that wind their way throughout the hillside. The tour guide had superb knowledge and presented in a really interesting manner, Alrighty! I forgot to mention the views from the balcony are interesting and you can see many of the iconic landmarks of Nottingham. The coffee was good from the cafe in the castle that sells a selection of light meals and cakes etc. Presumably the one attached to the shop is similar. Finally the adventure play ground looks interesting and is suitable for children up to the age of 12. All in all a worthwhile trip.

Gorgeous place, lovely cafe, had a coffee and gorgeous coffee and walnut cake. Great park for little ones and dog friendly but keep your dogs and children away from the deer particularly throughout rutting/ breeding season to give them space and for safety
Traveling from Lincoln is worth the trip for me. To go walking around this beautiful and peaceful scenery, while the deer and wildlife roam around freely with you is divine.

Excellent place to see deer roaming freely and a nice place to enjoy the outdoors. Plenty to of nature to see as well as buildings, a large pond with ducks, many horse chestnut, beech and oak trees, green open spaces, an absolutely beautiful garden area as well as numerous benches, picnic tables and the essential facilities like toilets and somewhere for a cup of tea! Great value for just the cost of parking which is £5 for the full day.
Great small museum with great contents and educational side. Loved the pop culture props and figures as well as the caves with the dress of Jess. Definitely felt watched in that bit though. Also enjoyed learning about the history of the two skulls in the crypt especially Elizabeth's and a great opportunity to hold a real life skull. Amazing little shop too, had to stop myself from spending all my money

Wow! What a great place to bring the kids to play when you're in the city centre—you pay for entry once and it's good for unlimited visits the rest of the year. Yes, you read that right!

Opens at 10am weekends so don't get there early. This is a wonderful experience for those interested in Justice or working in the justice system. There are staff who act in character bringing things to life. We visited the execution, and it shone a light into the ancient legal system and how justice was served. It was a great experience all round.

Enjoyed our experience here, luckily it wasn't very busy when we went as there isn't much space inside the rooms. Was interesting to hold a real skull and staff informative. Shame you aren't allowed to take photos as there was lots of interesting exhibits from Horror films that we would have liked to show friends and family.

Came today on the heritage day £1.First time I've been since the renovation's and it's fab. A lot of mixed reviews online but can honestly say it's well worth the visit. Lot's for the kids to do took us 3 hours just to get round it all. Will definitely be back again!
Wonderful place to take anybody to,especially grandchildren to. I saw two stags rutting-must be quite early in the season. The exhibition "through the eye of a needle is well worth a look. Must go earlier so we can get into the botanical garden
The castle is nice, however, the ticket price is high compared to what is inside and what you are going to do. Some galleries are alright, but it is not a museum and a full tour can be done in an hour. Also, the ticket does not include the cave tour, so you need to pay more for this and it has time slots.
An absolute must if you like social history, what a fantastic insight into our local jails,prisons,courts,convicts and their crimes. The harsh reality of the times, re enacted by 3 very talented in character guides. A courtroom drama and a public hanging. Lots to see, all set out in such a way to draw you into the terrible world that convicts faced 2 to 3 hundred years ago. Allow at least 2 hours....there are lots of steps and small spaces, but for me that adds to the drama. There are lifts to all the different levels in the building, good accessible toilets and a cafe. Book on line, you get a time slot....helps to keep an even spread of visitors. I also booked to see the caves...you get a discount, and there only 200 yards away.
This is an amazing day out. You get to be so close to the deers and they're amazing, the grounds and lake are so beautiful, I saw some birds I'd never seen before, this is a top 10 place to visit
We bought the tickets online, so there is no need to wait in the queue for a long time. Is 10 minutes walking from the train station, and along the way, you can see Robin Hood statue.

Definitely worth a visit! The ticket is valid for a year! Gardens pretty with fantastic views across the city! A great adventure playground for the children and Robin Hood experience is perfect for younger visitors. The main castle is interesting with art and history galleries, and a super cafe with really friendly staff! Sadly tickets for cave tours were all booked up! So, book online if you want to do this! Don't miss the Brewers Yard round the corner from the castle and next the Old Trip to Jerusalem pub!
Fantastic haunted museum lots of stuff going on the ladies there are lovely we will definitely be coming back again but this time we will buy something from the shop. Actual props as well from movies like SAW which is awesome... 1 down side is you can't take photos which was quite disappointing but if you don't mind not taking photos then the museum itself is fantastic with great staff and lots of information I would reccomend definitely. We was aloud to take 1 photo in a certain area with staffs permission and this is here that I have uploaded which is myself holding a real skull from a female many many years ago

I'd definitely recommend timing your visit to be able to see the trial reenactment and public execution reenactment (no spoilers but it doesn't get gruesome, although you'll definitely know how the prisoners felt and will learn alot about how criminals were punished).
Considering we popped in on a whim, we spent over 3 hours here, left feeling informed, entertained and grateful for finding such a fantastic museum.

This is a lovely, large park great for running or just strolling about casually. It wasn't too crowded in the morning and probably offered the most deer at that time too. Go during July and you might be lucky enough to see the fawns. Although you can't get too close to them, you can see them crystal clear from a reasonable distance. Even without the animal tour guides the park is well worth a visit for a bit of green space and a peaceful walk :)

Just visited Visitors Centre Cafe. Wishy-washy overpriced tea. 15 minutes waiting to give our order, just one person to do everything. Cups without saucers. Cash are not accepted. The ambience is really nice, though.

An absolutely lovely experience. All the actors are very funny, kind, and knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the Gaol and the Court of the past. Apart from the shows, they are around the exhibits to show you about and answer any questions. You can tell they are genuinely passionate about the topic and highly devoted to their respective roles, and can tell you all the details of the history and use of each room. I learned a lot and heard several interesting anecdotes. The museum itself is very well done, with lots of interactive exhibits and firsthand accounts that are sure to make it a memorable experience for adults and children alike. Take my word - have a visit! :)

The ever funniest museum I have ever been, thanks the performers, they are professional and knowledgeable, luckily, with other humorous "volunteers" , the shows are fantastic, we spent a happy 3 hours throughout the visit.
Meanwhile, thank you all the reformers to improve the environment of the prisoners and seek for a more fair trial for all.

I have run here many times, and I had never once known that there was a museum inside the hall. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was very surprised at how interesting and informative it was. The park surrounding the hall is also very lovely. Definitely would recommend it.
This is a interesting and informative place to visit. It's a bit of a rabbit warren of rooms and corridors and, to be honest more signage would have been useful. Also if you have any mobility issues it could be a problem seeing all the museum. This museum is definitely worth a visit and I would 100% visit here again.

Amazing place, if you ever get chance you must come, I did the tour & so worth it, my tour guide was amazing too & took me everywhere from Roof top to Cellar, would definitely do again
Exterior need large containers with sessional flowers to enliven the vicinity helping to make the Museum's exterior far more inviting, good tourism is vital.

It's a small museum with only one room, but the art gallery, lake, and the university itself makes it a good place to walk around.
This museum has absolutely blown me away. A truly hidden gem of Nottingham. It gives you an accurate picture of where Nottingham is from, where it is at where the City is headed
It’s a nice village museum packed with great recent historical antiquities. It is also hosted by a wonderful group of volunteers who are able to explain the details of all the exhibited items. Expectations were exceeded!
As a long time paranormal fan, this was a must see destination when we were on a family trip in the area. Both myself and my 14 year old were excited to visit - my husband was dragged along.

Absolutely lovely walk around the lake. It doesn’t take long and there are ducks and geese to feed. Keep an eye open for the deer roaming freely on the grounds.
Parking isn’t free, it’s £5 flat fee for the whole day even if you arrive late afternoon.

Parking isn’t free, it’s £5 flat fee for the whole day even if you arrive late afternoon.

Fantastic dog-friendly park with an industrial museum and an exquisite collection of dioramas and minerals in their Natural History Museum. The batman movie The Dark Knight Rises was filmed here. Prepare to walk at least 3km just to get around this park and its main building.
Good for party hire.

Showing how people lived and shopped in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Included is displays of toys and other objects from normal life up to the 1980s. It's funny seeing bits of your own life in a museum!

We all thank you for such a warm welcome to your fantastic museum.
Many of us were old enough to remember some of the exhibits, but the display of the fish and chip shop and the chemists were a little before our time, although we all remembered the desks in the classroom section. The obvious dedication of all the volunteer guides was infectious and really made for an outstanding visit.
This coupled with our visit to the framework Knitters museum made the best day out we've had in many a year.

Amazing variety of exhibits, looks small outside but is huge, good job they have a good system of arrows or you are unlikely to get out, if you wanted to. Allow plenty of time a lot of detail to absorb. Recreated rooms, shops, air raid shelter, real caves, and even historic playrooms with toys through the ages. All carefully annotated. Well worth a visit but careful of opening times, currently weekends due to shortage of volunteers. Free but they appreciate donations to keep this marvel open.
What a wonderful , museum from top to bottom, the Anderson shelter was a special moment. Whils't my wife and I were in there, two local Nottingham Ladies were reminiscing about there experiences of living through the war in Nottingham, the one lady even reproduced the sound of a Lancaster bomber as she explained the noise they made to her friend , which flew over Nottingham on there way to Europe or back. The young gentleman on duty in the museum also gave us an excellent insight ,making the museum come to life as he talked to us about the various items on display, and even mentioned about his family's involvement in The sherwood Foresters Regiment during WW2. 10 out 10 for the museum.
To be honest, I wasn't expecting much and went in to kill a couple of hours before going for a meal. I was very impressed however and also surprised by how much is actually in there. VERY interesting! We will return.
