Great place for my 5 year old. Downstairs was a little so/so but upstairs was very neat with a lot of interesting activities.
Highly recommend a visit here to this outstanding museum. Vassar was the first college to create a museum and their collection is both deep and diverse. Also free! Along with a walk around the lovely college grounds and torn makes a delightful day
Very knowledgeable staff. Matthew Woodard and my Alumna guest made a great connection. My guests' day at the museum was well worth the long travel to Poughkeepsie, NY.
Walked in at 4pm and were told they were about to close (museum hours are until 5pm). After paying full price, not a big deal, we were told we couldn't go in the upstairs portion because it was being cleaned but no concession was made on price due to the inconvenience. All in all, my kids did enjoy the museum and there was plenty for them to get their energy out, but the museum staff customer service, demeanor, and communication was poor at best, thus the 3 stars. We were on a 7 hour trek to Vermont and thought this would be a good pitstop for the kids...
I finally visited the museum and I was frankly surprised the breadth of its collection which includes more well known artists as well as lesser known, and also exhibits by their faculty and students. Definitely worth a visit and it’s free!

An interesting ongoing work encourages you to add your own input.
There's also currently a fun installation consisting of a pile of candy that you're encouraged to sample. Yum!
If you're in the area, it's well worth a look. The grounds and Chapel are another reason to go.

Great exhibits with write ups by former Vassar students. Spent a couple hours in their gallery, which was on multiple floors. The guide said there are over 20k pieces in storage!!! Make the trip, especially open in the summer with AC and fully accessible to wheelchairs.
It's a beautiful small gallery. The campus is beautiful as well.

I've been bringing my son here since he was a toddler (pre-Covid,) and it is so great that it has been back up and running.
He is now six, but there are still plenty of interesting stations for him to build, problem solve, and just have fun.
We'll be going until he gets bored, but I love that we have access to a space where children can experiment with hands-on items. They can see what truly interests them. My kiddo wants to be a "mechanical engineer to create and upgrade" things. He's already known what he wants to do for 2 years, and this practice is perfect.

Dominic, the docent, made our visit so very memorable! He was so kind, supportive, and willing to teach my four and six year old boys literally around every corner. I learned so much from him and will remember this afternoon and how he touched our family for years to come. This museum has a beautiful selection of a wide range of historic and modern pieces from around the world. It is also free and on a gorgeous campus with pretty accessible street parking. Store has a small selection of lovely magnets and keychains, but bring cash/check.
Easy parking, and surprisingly a lot of fun activities for kids (some are interesting also for their parents). We were on Saturday morning in September, but it wasn't busy.
A very cool place for the kids to go. It has several rooms and spaces for different age groups. My kid is almost 2 years old and was able to interact with almost everything. He had an absolute blast. Simple enough for any age to explore yet complex enough that older kids could start to understand the real science behind the exhibits. I look forward to returning.

The 1st floor had a play town set up on one side (fire truck, kitchen area, grocery store area and mechanics area). The the other side had a indoor playground and large wooden train track set-up, the best thing my kids enjoyed for quite some time were these air tunnels where you funnel small colored handkerchiefs through.
The 2nd floor, was definitely for the slightly older kids with all the cool science stations and a larger area for exploring and hands on activities.
All area seemed to be working and clean and sorted nicely.
There was no food/cafe but they had vending machines and an area to sit and eat if you bring your own.
It was a little pricey for what it is but all in all my kids enjoyed it! We stayed about 2-3 hrs.

Came here during a weekday for my birthday as a fun mom-son day date and it was super cute! Very happy they participate in the museums for all program also! A few of the exhibits were broken but my son had a wonderful time! We will definitely visit again! It was a bit crowded for a weekday, but still a lot of fun!
Awesome experience for young children 1-7 years old. Very interactive and fun for the whole family. Bring food because they only have a vending machine, but other than that it's worth the trip. You'll spend at least 2-3 hours here.
