I grew up in Clinton and recently took a friend from out of town to the Surratt House. The museum tour guide, Brian, taught us so much about the many people who interacted with the house, how it came to be and the lore vs truth surrounding the house too! The museum offered as much background as they could on enslaved and freed African Americans, and it was an honor to learn their stories in this local landmark where they once lived.
Had a great time here - very child friendly, staff knowledgeable and not trying to rush folks through. Very pleased they make an effort to incorporate presence and stories of not just the infamous owners, but also the enslaved who likely made this tavern/plantation run from sun up to sun down. There are similar historic locations nearby that still struggle with this aspect. Lovely interactive gift shop. At a minimum it's something affordable and educational to do.
Quentin was our guide and we truly enjoyed his presentation in the history behind the Surrat house. He was informative, engaging, humorous and knowledgeable. He kept our attention and intrigue about the history. Thanks Quentin for a wonderful experience!
Incredible staff, very knowledgeable, professional and courteous. The staff enjoyed sharing a piece of our American History. Attended event Echoes of the Enslaved. Very well organized. This is a definite place to visit to learn for all ages.
Mary Surratt was the first woman executed by the federal government because of her involvement in that conspiracy against President Lincoln. However John Booth never set foot inside this house, and he spent a grand total of seven minutes waiting outside on his horse.

Brilliant tour really informative, not trying to be something flasher than they are! Honesty about the limited involvement in the Wilkes Booth story but covering the use of the property and the history of those who lived and worked there

History is all around us and shapes our world. The Mary Surratt Museum does an amazing job of integrating the past to the present, and working to show the value of understanding our complicated history. The staff is absolutely amazing and so passionate about the work. They are knowledgeable, kind and fun to be around. The museum is well-kept with easy parking and very accessible. This is a must visit. The museum offers an amazing gift shop with a great selection of books. Thank you to the entire team for making our visit Wonderful! Nina Spinelli.

Really neat place to visit with a lot of history. The staff provides great tours and are very knowledgeable. They take plenty of time to answer any questions you might have and are very helpful. Definitely recommend stopping by this place!
What a great place to trace John Wilkes Booth and David Herold's escape route.

Thanks to the terrific guide, I think her name was Lynn, you are transported back in time. A thorough tour of the house, information on the Surratt family as well as the time Booth spent here.

Very inexpensive for the quality of the content given. Adult admission is five dollars. I would recommend anyone interested in American history to visit.
