A good place to visit with family and friends. The Egypt corner is the main attraction with a 4000 year old mummy.

No doubt the best place to see the rich preserved history which has been kept intact here. The museum has been properly maintained.
Easily 2-3 hours can be spent here. Various sections are there like invertebrates, mammals, reptiles, birds and even coins, textile, paintings and many others

I recently visited the Indian Museum in Kolkata, and it was an enriching experience. The ticket prices are very reasonable, and for those interested in photography, you can purchase an additional ticket to take photos inside. One important thing to note is that you should not carry a lunch box in your bag, as you won’t be allowed to enter with it. There is a secure cloakroom where you can leave your bag if necessary.
The museum itself is huge, with so much to explore. The exhibits are spread across multiple floors and cover a wide range of topics, including archaeology, art, anthropology, geology, and natural history. The collection is vast and well-organized, with clear signage guiding you through the different sections.

It was really a nice museum to visit. The security team is very polite. You have to keep your belongings at security and you can keep your phone with you. No videos allowed. You can take pictures. You get to see the evolution of currency, mint collection, and they have games for children. They have souvenirs, too at a price. Do visit when you are in the area. It's free knowledge!

They do not allow photography inside the museum but yet they charge an amount of Rs 50 just for clicking outside building pictures which i find quite unreasonable.

The Raja Ram Mohan Roy Memorial Museum is dedicated to the memory of Raja Ram Mohan Roy, a prominent social reformer. There are additional charges for photography. However the whole place is not air conditioned. There are only ceiling fans for cross ventilation of air.

Surprisingly well maintained and filled with interesting information all over. Learning how the money system works throughout history is something I never experienced before in such clarity. All the exhibits are well made and supported by enough written descriptions for ease of understanding for general people. Keep some time in your hand while visiting because there are plenty of things to see and explore
One of the best place to visit in Kolkata. You'll see the museum on the works and entire life of Rabindranath Tagore. The vibe of the place is very peaceful with the tune of Rabindra-sangeet in the background. You can purchase books here also. There are several rooms inside the museum. They have very good collection of the works of Tagore and everything is translated in English well.
A very beautiful place hidden away in the heart of the city. Here you can find art to sooth your mind. The staff present was very nice to us and also offered us coffee. You must visit if you wish to spend a peaceful time amidst various art forms.
Due to the fact that no pictures can be taken inside the museum, people usually tend to think that there will be nothing beyond some autobiographical elements from the life of the Tagore family members. Whereas, in reality, the way various types of interior designing has been done would surely surpass one casual visitor's expectation level. Undoubtedly a wonderful place to go for a weekend.

A very nice and beautiful place. It is also a special place for the literature lovers who admire Rabindranath Thakur. This is the place where the poet was born and brought up. The garden and house is very beautiful.

The original office of the RBI, which started its operations in 1935 and has been turned into a museum for the public in 2019 is truly a "hidden gem" in Kolkata.... This museum contains intuitive placards, interactive game-sessions and other attractive hoardings to provide you information on the history of currencies in India, the evolution of Indian currency and banknotes, the present economic status and many other interesting topics.... This museum will truly surprise and amuse you with their intuitive ways of providing information....

A place where u can experience the personality and contribution of First Modern Man of India... It is a 200years old house, which was once own by Raja Rammohan Roy... Here you can explore many unknown photos and documents of Roy... There are well organized galleries which beautifully preserve the contribution of him.... The replica of the Death Mask of Raja Rammohan Roy is also preserved here..
Nice touch of modernity but it would have been nice to have more displays of old coins. Also the souvenir shop needs to be improved. Need to have the most popular fridge magnets of the moment. Of course there should be some coin shops to encourage those who collect coins.
This is where my mother studied and she worked as a museum guide there apart from being a student. It was mesmerizing.... Rabindranath Tagore means a lot to us Bangalis and that place is like the golden pages of the books of our favourite poet.. totally loved it..... 💙🩵
This is the ideal place to visit which is filled with Vintage Bengali aesthetics... The entry ticket costs Rs 20/ person. Mobile photography is allowed but not inside the museum, costs Rs 50/ device. It's a must visit for the students who are studying this area of History.
It's a place worth visiting. Raja Rammohun Roy was a pioneer to the modern Indian society we are currently living in.
The ancestral house is very well maintained, staffs were helpful, ticket price was also very less.
I visited on last weekend of December; surprisingly only 4-5 people were visiting this place on that day, so we could spend a lot of time to actually enjoy every corner of the museum very peacefully.

Once this place was Raja Rammohan Roy's house and now it's turned into a museum. This place is historically rich and will be a great place to visit for students. The staff were really polite. The entry fee is Rs 10/person and Rs 5/person if they are students. Photography is allowed inside the museum but there are charges Rs 50 (mobile photography) and Rs 100 (camera).
You can see his house and his belongings. I wish they made his office a bit more accessible. The souvenir shop is nice as well. They should have magnets
The museum is situated at "Shimla" house of Raja Rammohun Roy. There is no original object related to Rammohun. The galleries are created with fabricated object, diorama, copy of letters of Rammohun, panorama, model etc.

No word is apt to describe the significance of this place. If you are an Indian, you should visit there to have some goosebumps even after so many years of our noble leader's demise. I visited on Netaji's Birthday, 23rd Jan. you have to pay for a ticket around 20-50 Rs to have access to enter the museum. Except Monday, everyday is open for visitors.
A must visit museum and certainly an underrated one. Doesn't get that many visitors per day as it deserves. Beautifully organised and so much new information presented in an effective and efficient manner. Entry is free. No entry tickets required. Information is presented in the form of games. Open till 5pm.
The Bose Institute or the Basu Bigyan Mandir is situated on Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road.
*While going towards Manicktala, the Institute falls on the left hand side, just adjacent to Acharya Bhavan.
Right at this moment, only the ground floor of the Institute is open for visitors. The first floor is under renovation.

Various scientific apparatus, research papers and lifetime achievements of JC Bose are handled with care and safeguarded in a proper way. People and children can find this place as a treasure island, as it provides so much information and knowledge under one roof. It felt like u boarded a time machine and reached the golden era of India's advancement in the sphere of science. Not only India, it also showcases global advancement in science.
But alas, the place is very less visited by people as it is a really very underrated place. It's a great place to spend an hour or two.

Awesome 👍👍 this is the house from where netaji started his unknown journey to make India free.. He was house arrested here. Yet one night he escaped along with his nephew Sisir in a German wanderer car to gomoh for his next journey.. that car is there at the entrance for visitors..

This house also accomodates the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North and North Suburban Division). The house has been given grade-I heritage status.
The exhibits are arranged in two floors. The 7 rooms of the ground floor contains-
1. Timeline of evolution of police force in India.
2. Related photographs
3. Police Medals :
President's Police Medal for Gallantry, Poorvi Star Medal, Shourya Padak, Prime Minister's Police Medal for Saving Life and many more.
4. Firearms of pre-independence era :
Here you can see a silver pistol. The interesting fact is that it is said to be used in the film, Shatranj ke Khilari. You can also see a small cannon. Besides, different types of revolvers, pistols, muskets, rifles have been showcased here. You can see the guns used during the Swadeshi Movement e.g., liquid pistol, Stanley style pen pistol, walking stick gun, Damascus barrel gun, six chamber pen knife pistol.
6. Maps of different Police Stations
7. Replica of newspapers (Jugantar, Swadhin Bharat, Liberty) and circulars issued on the Swadeshi Movement.
8. Proscribed Literature :

The resident of Netaji Subhas chandra Bose where he was living during house , arrest and great escape to Germany . Nowdays it's became a museum . Various things which was used by Mr. Bose is preserved here . This place is open for everyone , ticket price is 20 rupees for adults and 10 rupees for children. This museum is a great place for the people who loves netaji and those who wanted to know about Indoan independence was .
This small art museum displays a variety of top art in rotating shows. It's well worth a visit if you're in the area. Nothing is for sale as this is a private collection. Usually closed Sundays. Phone wasn't working at the time of my visit. No photography allowed. Free admission.
This place is very clean and tidy. The arts are good too. This place is very calming. It's almost surprising?!
A wonderful museum of Calcutta Police showcasing the eventful history of how the Calcutta police force was formed. Artefacts include ammunition used by freedom fighters. Pictorial representation of various events which will take the visitor down the memory lane. We also saw some mind boggling items such as the swing on which Hetal Parekh was killed, or the skeletal remains of Biswanath Dutta, who was murdered and then plastered inside his home by his brother and accomplices. Or for example, the jackets worn by the assailants who attacked the Kolkata American Center. There is an entire section dedicated to Netaji's classified files, digital copies of which can be accessed with due permission from authorities. Surprisingly the place did not have too big a crowd. But this is a must visit place for anyone interested. As a bonus, the officers were extremely courteous and understanding. We got a free booklet and got ourselves some memorabilia for remembrance!

Their firearms gallery is very interesting as is the gallery on the epaulettes, letter and exhibits related to crime and solving of the same. They have the shell of a bomb dropped on the city by the Japanese during WW2 and have a section for archives where a lot of once classified files and documents are exhibited. Researchers may access the same with due permission.
One thing I would like to highlight is the extremely friendly and polite behaviour of all the staff we encountered. Be it the policeman at the gate to the gentleman guiding us or the gentleman in the office, it was a pleasure dealing with them.

One of the best place for science enthusiasts .... located beside Rajabazar science college. Museum open for 4nhrs only.

It was wonderful experience to be in the house of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Nicely maintained museum. Clean and calm place. It's really honor to walk through the corridors where once netaji used to walk and grew up. This place need to be visited.
Those who really want to know about Raja Rammohan Roy can visit this museum. This museum is very informative and collects all the data of that time when we can't achieve our own ideology,and religion isn't in its actual way.Also you can get the vibe of bonedi house .

A different place. If you want to see a lot of artform, turn your way. Go here if you want to observe each and every paintings. I mostly loved the decors from the celling... amazing! The collection speaks if you listen in silence.

Satudays and Sundays are closed, which makes impossible for the school kids to come.

Disheartened by unprofessional and tourist hostile behaviour of security and care takers of the museum...absence of majority of the staffs lead to late opening and partial opening of majority of the rooms of the museum. Sad to have poor experience to such an important learning hub.
Must come visit our history. And seeing importance of freedom fighter. All officer and staff who are duty at museum are very friendly and helpful. I love this experience. Seeing a lots of Weapons.. I are like this museum

Well maintained and in desperate need of fund for further restoration & cataloguing of valuable collection of books of Sir.JC Bose
This museum is still very much a work in progress. Artifacts have been exhibited, but plaques explaining their historic significance were absent, reducing the utility of the exhibits.

The erstwhile residence of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose (renowned Bengali physicist, botanist and archaeologist), Acharya Bhavan was constructed in the year 1902 and known to have served as the hub of Bengal Renaissance. This is the building where Acharya and his wife Abala Bose played host to many renowned personalities of that time, including Tagore, G B Shaw, Vivekananda, Romain Rolland, Sister Nivedita, Prasanta Mahalanobis, PC Ray and Meghnad Saha. this 111-year-old building has been recently renovated into a museum. For anyone interested in knowing about the inspirational life and works of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, a visit to this museum is an absolute must. Here, you can come up close and personal with many items and artefacts that belonged to J C Bose. His distinctive instruments, laboratory and priceless collections of art are well-preserved in this museum. Frescoes designed by Nandalal Bose and Abanindranath Tagore are among the museum's main highlights.
