So good!!! Such a cute little place in a somewhat odd location. But we loved it!! Food was great! Bloody Mary’s were on point. Service was good, as well! Make a reservation or plan to wait a long time (60 minute when we showed up on Saturday morning but we had a reservation!) Definitely worth it and we will most definitely visit again if we are ever in Pittsburgh.
I was SO looking forward to eating at this place because it was so welcoming and beautiful in the dining area and lobby, but unfortunately I was very disappointed with the food. The food was VERY beautiful and pleasing to the eye but let me down. I had the poppyseed pancakes and they had a VERY baking powdery aftertaste. My mom got the chia pudding and when I tasted it I had to spit it out and wipe of the spoon I used. I hate having to say this because it is a very cute place and I am never the picky type of eater. On the contrary my dad liked his breakfast of sausage, eggs, and toast; so maybe it was the options my mom and I picked. Amazing views, not so much amazing food. 😔
I had a distinctly mediocre experience. Goat cheese omelet was not hot enough. A positive was it came loaded with veggies (broccoli, onions and mushrooms) but these also were only just warm. The waitress didn't seem to know what veggies were included. Service was slow even though the restaurant wasn't crowded. One highlight is a chance to see the lobby of the Union Trust Building, one of Pittsburgh's landmarks.
Fabulous group of people running a very nice establishment here! The cooks and waitress staff were extremely friendly and were sure to check in and make sure we were satisfied with our meal. We’ve heard the rumours about their notorious “Patty Melt” so that’s exactly what we ordered. The sandwich was cooked to perfection and the secret sauce was the icing on the cake! Atmosphere and location of which also contained history was also a big bonus for the overall dining experience. 10 / 10 ⭐️

Absolutely excellent. Beautiful location inside the Union Trust Building. Great service. Hefty and varied brunch menu. My mom had the Bloody Mary and Poppyseed Pancakes, both of which were very good. The home fries were flavorful and can easily be shared. I had the Irish Coffee cocktail which was strong and dainty. For my meal I had The Nester which is a more elegant version of the diner classic Egg in a Hole. The Nester was cooked and plated perfectly. It was so good, I can't wait to go back and have it again.

The Hey, Babe salad is buttermilk dressing, it is a good refreshing salad. Poppy seed pancake is a big portion dish. I think this cafe does a good job with their food, not regular cafe food.

The Speckled Egg is in the beautiful Union Trust Building in Pittsburgh, PA. The architecture rocks!

I ordered The Nester, which has eggs with goat cheese, greens, fine herbs, and crab meat. The dish is a stroke of genius – two perfectly cooked eggs nestled in toast with a hole cut out, paired with a fresh green salad. The combination is amazing!

The atmosphere at The Speckled Egg is lively because it’s in a high rise with many passerbys, making it an ideal spot for people-watching. If you're in Pittsburgh, The Speckled Egg is a must-visit for a delicious and inventive meal in a bustling setting.

The location is inside a beautiful building and the food is excellent. The only reason for the 2 stars is the service. Once we were seated, we waited 15 minutes for a server but she never picked her eye up to see us. We asked the host for help and she eventually came to our table and apologized for not seeing us. We ordered and waited 50 minutes before we asked her about the food (the table by us which ordered after we did were done and leaving), and she then just entered our order. We asked her to cancel the order since it was just sent to the kitchen but the host promised us that it will be out fast, which it was. This happens, it was busy, and the host was very sweet, but I feel that we could have been sitting there for hours with no service at all, which takes away from the experience. The coffee is good and the lox bagel was great.
