We enjoyed afternoon tea here recently. The food was nice however the bread was a little dry and the sandwiches a bit basic (didn’t feel like a treat). The scones and cakes were nice. Staff were very friendly and the service was quick.
Starbucks is always good. We have been there a few times. Plenty parking spaces and lots of room inside. Service is pretty good as well.
Although our hotel was close by, I would happily go out of my way to eat here. I had the full Scottish breakfast, which was a delightful challenge.
The cafe was busy, a great sign, but we had no issue getting seated without prebooking.
The staff were really welcoming, food was served quickly and there was a lot of it!! Would return if in Edinburgh again.

Lovely tea room!
I've been there so many time over the years. I find it difficult to find a good tea room in Edinburgh (mostly coffee shops!) So Eteaket was an amazing find.

Hidden gem alert and the BEST honey cake I've ever had. We took a break from sightseeing near the Edinburgh castle to use the wc and have a coffee and thank God we did because this place blew our minds. All we ordered were a cortado and a (Russian) honey cake but the quality and flavours of those two items really blew us away. The honey cake was heavenly and spongy with a creamy smooth interior contrasted with a sweet nutty exterior topping. The coffee was made perfectly without any bitterness and had fruit notes of apricot and honeysuckle. Overall, if you are in Edinburgh do yourself a favor and please make sure to check this place out!

the best cafe ever<3 a long time and regular visitor, i would highly recommend! the chihuahuas are the sweetest little bundles of cute, staff are all lovely, whole experience is really well coordinated and the cakes/drinks are always gorgeous!
Underwhelming experience if I’m honest. The food was okay, nothing special. My partner had the salmon and mentioned it wasn’t anything to stand out against other restaurants. The fries were fresh and well made, best part of the meal for some reason, every single table had a complementary bread starter irrespective of what they ordered and ours didn’t. Calamari was good but paired with sauce that just didn’t fit.
As usual, what irritates me is when restaurants chuck in an assumed tip and whilst mentioning its discretionary on the bill don’t even ask if we would like to tip. Tips are earned for exemplary service and not matter of fact additions as a give in.Poor ethic and needs changing.

Great coffee and incredible sandwiches. Staff is super friendly and the Cafe itself is very cozy!
It was surprisingly good. Was tempted to give my name as Psycho for the coffee but was too tired after shopping though revived afterwards over a latte and a piece of lemon cake.
We spent a lovely moment at Maison de Moggy. Don't forget to book your visit there ! The staff is very kind and they will do everything they can for their cats' well-being. We were able to spend a whole hour with the cats. They all seemed peaceful. The manager seems like a cat-lover. She takes the time to present each cat with their behavior and particularities. We have seen some bad reviews saying that it was expensive but I believe it is needed to provide for the cats' needs. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful. We felt refreshed ! On a adoré les prénoms français donnés aux chats 🐱😉

We've been staying around the corner and doing takeaway each morning (despite initial plans to try other shops in the area). Lovely espresso drinks and flaky pastries. Highly recommend to anyone passing through.
The smallest cappuccino I’ve ever been served and the pastry was dry & inedible. Waste of money & time having to go up about 4 escalators then back down to the car park. Rip off Britain indeed.
Lovely tea room. We had two High Teas the cheddar and chutney sandwich was tasty but a little dry. Could have used something fresh like one or two leaves of salad. But this is my only complaint. The tea was delicious, the scones were amazing and the staff was friendly. A problem with my order was resolved without hesitation and we had a really lovely time there.

Impeccable dishes. Can’t fault the food at this restaurant. Everything I ordered was delicious and made using fresh ingredients. The specials of the day were great.
The coffee was fine, the honey cake was good… till I saw how an employee is spraying the show window (where they keep all the cakes etc.) with a glass cleaning material (some chemical stuff) while all the cakes are inside…

Nice place to have lunch. The Scottish pie is good but with too much pepper sauce. Try the Edinburg eggs, it’s tasty.

The dogs are incredibly well behaved for a breed that is known for their big personality. They are little sweethearts, and it’s really nice to hear how each dog is different from the staff.
The drinks + cakes were very tasty, and surprisingly delicious for their vegan treats. I’ve been let down before by venues putting minimal effort into the vegan snacks but these were so delicious!!
My absolute favourite thing was how much they respect the dogs. Utmost care is taken to ensure the chihuahuas are comfortable and their boundaries aren’t stepped over. I had read previous reviews that stated they found the staff overbearing, but I don’t think they stopped to consider that the dogs are family too. You wouldn’t allow strangers to treat your family like toys.
They explained the very simple rules clearly, and I was delighted to see that the dogs were their top priority.
It was a delightful experience, and I will be returning again many times!

Muffin was dry, bacon roll was mediocre for the cost. Seats were not clean...crumbs and bits all on them. Cost was not great value, however chap serving was lovely and Earl Grey tea was really good. Cavernous dark place with no real character.
A very good place for snack & coffee in Edinburgh City Centre.
Currently closed for renovation after a fire. Was here a couple of years ago while in Edinburgh. Great cappucino and sandwiches. Also has a spectacular view of the castle. Highly recommend it for anyone visiting Edinburgh.
Pleasant place, but the Scottish national soup was almost cold, with one or two pieces of fish in it and generally a small portion. Staff is a bit pushy regarding the service charge...
Excellent selection of beans if you’re into light roasts. One of the few cafes in the world that stores their beans frozen in individual dose containers to preserve the flavors. They carry their own roasts in addition to other roasters.
Barista though was not very knowledgeable or maybe was just in a rush to get done, given it was close to closing time. Espresso shot was pulled okay.

I feel very relaxed around cats and my friends recommended me to come here. There are many different kinds of kittens, most are sleeping, very cute! The space is well designed and there is plenty of room for the cat to climb and play. The guests here are friendly, the environment is clean and warm. The staff were very friendly and introduced each kitten to us. And i Also find some interesting picture books lol
First time in Edinburgh... so many restaurants in the area. Walked by this place and decided to try it... and it was very good. Tried Haggis for the first time and it was delicious... also had the chowder and finished up the meal with a cheese plate.

We drank a homemade lemonade (which was very nice and sweet) and ate the lemon cake (so great). They offer a lot of choices for drinks; many different coffees, teas, hot chocolate.

The portions are quite mega which is great if you’re heading there after a healthy gym session! The food lacks a bit of finesse but priced ok and I really appreciate how open they were to substitutions on the Scottish breakfast. Rolls were so huge you could use them as a pillow. Brilliant decor and diner theme. Recommend a visit!
This is such a nice place. The ambiance is very nice, beautiful classic interior. The staff is very friendly with a great sense of humour. Do make reservations. Food is very very tasty, soup is wonderful, very nice local beer, reasonably prices 3 course lunch at 21£ but the most delicious was the sticky toffee pudding. Highly recommended.

It wasn't very busy, clean and has the diner vibe you'd expect.

Portion size was great, the gluten free option didn't come with black pudding/haggis and just came with two extra hash browns instead.
The only downside with the food was the sausages, both sausages had inedible bits of what seemed like bone.
Both ordered a flat white which was surprisingly nice but don't expect black medicine coffee quality.

Excellent service. We came in with 50 minutes before a tour. We told the waitstaff and they made it happen. Wide variety from just muffins, or waffles to a full out Scottish breakfast that has haggis, black pudding, potato scone, sourdough bread - the whole works. Easy to find on High St - with ample seating.
This was my third visit here and I try to visit every time I am in Edinburgh. I booked their book club time slot (Thursdays at 19:00) accidentally and Emma from Maison de Moggy contacted me the day before and kindly told me about the book club. She helped me move to an earlier time slot which was cheaper as well, she was incredibly helpful. From the last time I visited, they have also massively upgraded their menu and now have a huge selection (two sides of an A4) of drinks. I recommend the lavender hot chocolate and my friend’s deluxe hot chocolate looked lovely as well.
Really unique way to spend some time on our holiday! Will be back definitely. Hannah was so nice and chatty, time went by so fast! My dream now is to have a chihuahua of my own <3 yummy treats.
Lovely family place to go to for brunch. Discovered them when I was working for Costa across the road and the service and food is miles better.
I had an amazing experience at The City Cafe in Edinburgh. The food was delicious and the service was top-notch. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the location was perfect for exploring the city. I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a great meal in Edinburgh!

We did go here for some Breakfast and after that we came back for lunch. Both of the times it was a very good experience, the staff is very friendly and the quality of food is Good! Portions are big, so take in mind that if you just want a snack take a look at the small snack part at the menu.
We were delighted with our experience at the cafe. Each dog had such a unique personality and we were happy to meet each one. The staff were very helpful in providing information about each of the dogs, especially Finlay who greeted our group at the door to the cafe. Food and drinks were super tasty too. We never wanted to leave this lovely place
Omg what a find !! Have eaten here in November 2021 with a friend. This time six had breakfast. First time trying Haggis and won’t be the last.

We've been here a few times since they opened and honestly its one of our favourite things to do. The staff are all so lovely and the dogs are amazing. Its such a great way to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city. An absolute must for anyone who loves dogs. You won't be disappointed!
I took my 10-year-old daughter to this place on her birthday. Perfect place for cat lovers 😻 The place was so clean and all the cats were so adorable. Staffs very helpful and they offer nice selection of yummy drinks and cakes. Hot chocolate was massive! It was close to cat's dinner time and it was so nice that we had a chance to see all of them waiting to get fed in front of the kitchen door.
Was lucky to book on the same day for the second seating at 2:30pm however we were 10min late due to traffic from old town. The staff was able to accommodate us despite the kitchen closing close to 3pm. Make sure to be on time or call when you’ll be late for the booking.

One of the standout features of this restaurant was undoubtedly the attentive and charming waitress who took care of our every need. Her genuine enthusiasm and knowledge about the menu were truly commendable. Not only did she provide excellent recommendations, but she also patiently answered our questions and ensured that we had a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience. Her impeccable timing and attention to detail truly elevated our evening to new heights. I wish I had remembered her name.

Had a lovely scone and yellow gold oolong at this lovely loose leaf tea house. They give you a tea timer, so that you can make sure you don’t over brew your tea. They also did not use boiling water for my greener oolong so the leaves were not burned, and they were able to provide more water when i finished my first pot. Lovely service, even while busy, and great selection as well. Had a scone too which came with cream and jam — best I had in my time in Scotland! Much love from a Colorado-an who used to work at a loose leaf tea shop!

Had a great Scottish breakfast here, I had been trying to get a table here for days, but it was always really busy! I found out why, foods great, stall really pleasant, and their Espresso was top notch.

The absolute best Earl Grey tea I’ve ever had! I sure wish I knew what brand it is and where to purchase it.
We had more people than we had booked for in our party and were very quickly accommodated. Beautiful food. Not the hottest, but we were a large group. Very busy and, therefore, noisy, had to shout to be heard across the table. Perfect fast service, however, and very reasonably priced, taking the current climate into consideration. Would definitely go here again.
I would move in if it was allowed. I loved every second. As a crazy cat lady myself, I was so excited to visit. All the staff are lovely and cats! What more could you ask for! And the strawberry lemonade was delicious, so refreshing. Definitely pre-book your visit.

Absolutely fantastic! Been there for lunch best option to take the 2 or 3 courses. Food was really tasty. Service was fantastic, Lisa our hostes was top notch! Beyond friendly, and always ahead of our needs, checking constantly if everything was alright. The rest of the staff also were very very friendly and happy! The overall was a fine dinning type of experience for a portion of the price! It was a highlight of my trip.
Such a great visit on Monday. Loved seeing all the cats for the first time in years since I last visited. The drinks we ordered were lush and the staff, as ever, so friendly and kind! The cats are obviously so loved and cared for by the staff and their boundaries are always respected which is just great to see.
”Fine dining for affordable Prices“ we had a 2 and 3 course lunch that was just around 20£ each. The food is very delicious and well made. Besides that, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, and we felt very welcome. Our hostess Lisa was super friendly, came over every course to ask if everything is alright, but she was also very observant and quick thinking. When I spontaneously started to share my dessert with my partner, she read our minds and came over with a second spoon. That’s what I call a top notch service. Although the dishes were served by different waiters, they alway knew without asking which dish me or my partner would get. That was not only very convenient but also made us feel like ”home“. Best dining experience we had in our vacation. It really made our day.

It was pleasant to have a coffee at Starbucks every time. A bit expensive but totally worth the money.
It's always a pleasure to stop in for a GF high tea service complete with GF fruit scone and sandwiches. The tea is delicious and the atmosphere is very cozy. Highly recommend if you are in the area.
Unique and heartwarming experience! Well managed, with great explanations of each little dog’s character. The guests are seated and the chihuahuas enter the tearoom and select the lap to rest on! During the session the handlers encourage them to rotate around a little. Very relaxing and amusing.
Fine little tea shop with high tea. We each ordered a simple tea, scone, and sandwich. Good enough for a light meal and to continue your journey through Edinburgh. The service was extremely friendly. They even offered us free chutney because we loved it so much.
Very good afternoon tea experience for vegetarians, too. We had a classic and a vegetarian afternoon tea today, with delicious plain scones with cream and raspberry confiture, a selection of patisserie and three different fresh sandwiches. I chose a royal earl grey tea with milk which perfectly suited the selection, in my opinion. The staff was kind and ready to answer to any request. Highly recommended!

At home or abroad, it is sometimes advisable to check out cafes etc away from the main attraction. In this case the main attraction was Prince's Street in Edinburgh. Eteaket was a couple of hundred yards away. It was for us a great find. We both love tea, so this cafe was a no brainer for us. Knowledgeable staff were quite happy to answer our questions. We were informed by the staff that they did have some problems. The service was perfectly acceptable all the same. We chose toasted sourdough sandwiches and a tea which we hadn't sampled before. Both were a success. The cafe has a welcoming ambience. Well worth the walk. Well done.
The cafe's cozy and inviting atmosphere immediately made me feel at home. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and made excellent coffees. However, the true standout was the honey cake - just as it is at their sister cafe in Leith.

The staff do their best to ensure everyone gets time with the dogs, which was much appreciated. We went to Maison de Moggy as a group last week. As previously mentioned, only booking the table for 6 people put us back £60. I got a lavender latte (£4) which was good and then went around the place and saw some lovely cats. Most of them were sleepy, which again I found a bit intriguing. An absolutely cozy place to have your breakfast! Had a full Scottish Breakfast and it felt like having an amazing home cooked meal! Would definitely recommend to try out the cafe when you are in Edinburgh! The ladies there were thoughtful and catered to make the place feel welcome 🙏
Great spot to grab a coffee & bite to eat. My cortado coffee was great and so was my Parma ham sandwich - they had a good variety pastries and sandwiches to choose from. The coffee is on the strong side which I like.

Nice wee place & decor (liked the old skis in the corner 🙂). Cappuccino was small, but strong 💪😁 missing the chocolate top, which imo is what a cappuccino is all about 😋 (option to add wasn’t given when ordering, but there was toppings available to add). The bounty hot choc was lovely! 😋👌 …if you like bounty’s you’re ‘bounty’ like it (boom boom) 😂

A cozy wee shop with four different espressos (including one guest and one decaf) to choose from. No syrups or sugar alternatives. Sit in or take away.
I had the Grand Slam, which was lovely flavor-wise, but less creamy and more watery. My husband had the guest espresso, which we were told wasn't acidic, but it was. Again, it was more watery than creamy.
We had the salted caramel and raspberry cheesecake brownies, which were nothing short of amazing.
All in all a lovely wee shop with a nice atmosphere. Definitely more bespoke than most coffee shops in Edinburgh and some of the better espresso available.
I had the Grand Slam, which was lovely flavor-wise, but less creamy and more watery. My husband had the guest espresso, which we were told wasn't acidic, but it was. Again, it was more watery than creamy.
We had the salted caramel and raspberry cheesecake brownies, which were nothing short of amazing.
All in all a lovely wee shop with a nice atmosphere. Definitely more bespoke than most coffee shops in Edinburgh and some of the better espresso available.
Amazing view because its at the castle. Food was alright. Most staff members were great except for one who was discriminatory which was uncalled for.

I usually love city cafe but last night I was really disappointed with the service. Food was smashing as always couldn't fault it! But none of the staff checked back and because we were in a corner the 2 times we needed drinks over and above what we initially ordered we had to go up and ask. The table next to the door had to do the same and weren't impressed either. Other than that it was grand.
Staff made sarcastic , condescending remarks when I asked for more chocolate sprinkle on my mocha , which was really uncalled for , not to mention extremely unprofessional. I will not return.
I ordered a scone with butter and jam and a cappuccino and my friend a single espresso macchiato. All food were delicious! And the ladies are very kind!!
Sad to see it closed, but that obviously not their fault due to a devastating fire so I’m not leaving a bad review like some of these people. A great stop to look at all the same, and will definitely have to come back when they open back up. Very cool location and surrounding area as well. Worth a visit for both Harry Potter fans and people close by.
A great place to stop for coffee and a snack. I prefers a sandwich and a slice of pistachio cake, both of which were delicious washed down with a perfectly balanced long black.
Old Town can be a little bit on the thin side for good quality, independent food and drink. The proximity to so many popular tourist destinations and the high rents make it tricky. But this place is bucking the trend and should come highly recommended.

A wet, soggy slap in the face. Great location at Castle with great views across the city but atrocious food! Soggy, wet, tasteless tuna sandwiches! Eat before you go to the castle or just have coffee. Edinburgh Castle is a fantastic venue but let’s itself down by outsourcing to Benugo.
Great cafe and a lot of choises of desserts and sandwiches. We tried the scone and was tasty and freshly baked.
The chihuahua cafe is an absolute MUST! I stay in East Lothian so not that far and I will definitely be back. If you are just visiting the city then do NOT miss this place. The staff were incredible - so down to earth and clearly in love with the gorgeous dogs. The dogs are well behaved and well mannered and just a delight to chill out with. Pictured is me with Hepburn and Fairy. Drinks and cakes were lovely too. I honestly cannot recommend this place enough.
Magical place for Harry Potter fans! The coffee shop is actually quite lovely, they have beautiful views by the windows. Hot drinks and cakes were good. Harry Potter fans have written tons of messages all over toilet's doors and walls. Liked the place and our waiter, I believe his name was Aitor, made the experience much better. He was lovely and allowed us to seat in when it was close to closing time, and overall, he was super nice and helpful. It can get really busy, so if you are not a Harry Potter fan, there might be other coffee shops as good as this one, but it's definetely a charming one!
Good elephant cappuccino and a huge homemade muffin I had there. This cafe seems be very famous for tourists and was busy even around 11am on Monday.

Not sure why many bad reviews. Food was amazing (had the Scottish pancakes with bacon and syrup and the scone with clotted cream and jam). Super fresh, tasty and good size! Prices are reasonable. And I got JKR’s same table with lovely views and peaceful around. I just loved it! Yes, you’ll have to bear the stares from the rest of the people around that will just want you gone to have the table
We were lucky to stop when we did. It was about 11 a.m. and the lunch crowds had not descended yet. Usually when we walked past, the place was crowded. We decided to stop for an early bite to eat. I knew a bit about the history of the place; how J.K. Rowling had started writing Harry Potter here. The waitress asked if we wanted front or back, we chose back. The view of Greyfriars Kirk and Edinburgh castle and the university is visible from back there. We chose a small table by the window. The lunch menu was not out yet, so we had hot chocolate and porridge. The porridge came with honey and milk. The hot chocolate was the perfect size, not too big and not too small. The waitress was very chatty and when we asked where Ms. Rowling sat when she wrote, she said, "Right here at this window." Couldn't believe our luck! You have to visit the bathrooms. People leave their mark and devotion to Harry Potter in there. The place was warm and cosy and the view was fantastic. Perfect views of Edinburgh castle and the graveyard. Definitely stop in early before the crowds start coming.
The place is nice and most of the staff are nice except one female waitress with long dark hair and she was wearing the red uniform (not the Chinese girl). I was at the place at 3pm, once I was seated I raised my hand up to my head ( which is really low-key) to get her attention. She was standing by the toilet, chatting with another male waiter. After she saw me, instead of coming to the table she turned to the waiter and clearly was discussing about my gesture as I saw her copied my raising hand gesture to the male waiter which I find is really rude. I can understand if she finds the gesture is uncommon to her culture or what so ever, but was it really necessary to copy me?
And as I’m writing this up, she also wondered towards the back of the house by their private room, she was peeking there as one of the waiter and supervisor (possibly manageress?) were talking in there. I thought her attention and focus should be on customers?

Redcoat Cafe was Fantastic, lovely Sandwiches and Wraps, and excellent coffee.
This is clearly a well kept and clean facility until...... you find yourself in the back. I took a wrong turn and stumbled across this mess! Fire extinguisher and fire exit blocked by rubbish leaking all over the floor.

Friendly staff. Great coffee. I'm a pain, can I have this with this, not that. Can you leave room for this. Nothing phases them. Favourite coffee shop. Can't say about any other Starbucks. Just craigleith
Lovely little breakfast and coffee spot. Very good value with the big breakfast, made fresh, and very tasty. Big cup of coffee with the meal as well. If you're looking for something quick, filling and delicious, go here!
